Telugu (తెలు�గు�) Language• Telugu (తెలు�గు�) is a Dravidian language• Telugu has the third largest number of native speakers in India• Telugu is known as the " Italian of the East " since every word

in Italian and Telugu ends with a vowel• Telugu is the official language of State Andhra Pradesh, and

was given the status of a Classical language by the Government of India

• Telugu Has a total of 52 letters and are divided in to “Achchulu” 16 (vowels) and “Hallulu” 36 (Consonants)

• Traditionally, in handwriting, Telugu words were not separated by spaces. Modern punctuation (commas, semicolon, etc.) were introduced with the advent of print.

Meaning:

Words can never describe Brahman. The mind can never apprehend it.Satyam means truth or real. Jnanam means knowledge or conscious. Anantam means infinite. sathyam jnAnam anantam brahma is Transcendental Absolute.

• Vemana was born in 1352• He was a famous 14th century Telugu poet• His poems, which are 4 lines in length, discuss the subjects

of yoga, wisdom and morality• In his honor, The Andhra Pradesh government named a

University in Kadapa the Yogi Vemana University in 2006• Vemana lived for78 years in the town of Kadiri• Due to his great poems and teachings, Vemana is still one

of the most respected Telugu poets today• He is celebrated for his style of Chaatu padyam, a poem

with a hidden meaning• Now we are going to read few of his poems (also known

as Vemana Padyalu or Vemana Satakalu)

Translation:Golden fruit looks good and we may think that it is tasty. But if we cut it, worms are seen. Mentality of coward reflects golden fruit. Coward poses him self as brave person and he hides about his fear inside himself.
