• The second India-Myanmar bilateral Army exercise

'IMBEX 2018-19' commenced at Chandimandir military

station which houses the headquarters of the Western

Command.

• It is the second edition of the IMBEX.

The objectives of IMBEX 2018-19 are:

• Train the Myanmar delegation for participation in United

Nations peacekeeping operations under the UN flag.

• Provide opportunities to the army personnel of both the

nations to serve effectively in UN missions by providing

understanding about each other’s training, tactics,

procedures and best practices.

• The exercise includes participation of 15 officers

from Myanmar Army and 15 officers from Indian

Army who shall jointly train for over a period of six days.

• India is one of the largest contributors to the UN

peacekeeping force and has a rich experience of serving

in UN peacekeeping operations.

ASER 2018 Report: One out of every 8 students in rural India can’t read simple texts

ASER 2018 ररपोटय: ग्रामीण भारत में हर 8 में से एक छात्र सािारण शब्ों को भी नही ं पढ़ सकता है

• The Annual Status of Education, ASER report by the NGO

Pratham which measures the learning outcomes has been

released. The report was based on an annual household

survey which covered 5.46 lakh children in 596 rural

districts across the country.

The important findings from the ASER 2018 survey are:

For the first time since the introduction of the Right to

Education Act, India witnessed tangible improvements in

the quality aspects.

The study shows that more than half (50.5%) of all children

in Class 5 can read a Class 2 textbook, up from 46.9% in

2012.

Kerala tops in Class 5 reading levels with 77.5%, up from

69.4% in 2016. This growth is driven by state-run schools

i.e.10% rise in reading levels in government schools

compared to 7.3% in private schools.

The government schools in Uttar Pradesh have registered

an 11.9% jump in reading skills for Class 5 students while

private schools saw only a 7.6% rise.

1 out of 4 children in rural India leaves Class 8 without

basic reading skills and over half of them (55.9%) without

basic numerical literacy or without the ability to do a simple

division sum.

अध्ययन से पता चलता है सक कक्षा 5 में सभी बच्ों के आिे से

असिक (50.5%) 2012 में 46.9% से कक्षा 2 की

पाठ्यपुस्तक पढ़ सकते हैं।

77.5% के साथ कक्षा 5 के पढ़ने के स्तर में केरल सबसे ऊपर

है। यह रृ्वब्धद्ध सनजी सू्कलों में 7.3% की तुलना में सरकारी

सू्कलों में पढ़ने के स्तर में 10% रृ्वब्धद्ध देखी गयी है ।

उत्तर प्रदेश के सरकारी सू्कलों में कक्षा 5 के छात्रों के सलए

पढ़ने के कौशल में 11.9% की रृ्वब्धद्ध दजय की है, जबसक सनजी

सू्कलों में केर्वल 7.6% रृ्वब्धद्ध देखी गयी है ।

ग्रामीण भारत में 4 में से 1 बचे् कक्षा 8 को सबना बुसनयादी

पढ़ने के कौशल और आिे से असिक (55.9%) सबना बुसनयादी

संख्यात्मक साक्षरता या सािारण सर्वभाजन रासश के योग करने

की क्षमता के सबना छोड़ देते हैं।

students of Eklavya Model Residential Schools

(EMRS) was inaugurated by Jaswantsinh

Sumanbhai Bhabhor, Minister of State for Tribal

Affairs at G.M.C Balayogi Stadium, Hyderabad.

• The Minister also launched an app ‘EMRS

Sports Meet’ dedicated on the occasion. The

event has a participation of 1777 students

comprising of 975 boys and 802 girls

representing 20 States of the country.

• The scheme of Eklavya Model Residential

Schools (EMRSs) is one of the flagship

intervention of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs,

Government of India introduced in the year

1997-98 to ensure tribal students get access to

quality education in the remote tribal areas.
