On 25 th March, 2004 in Tapovan we passedthe three-year milestone in our 24-hourround-the-clock Om Tryambakam Yajnya. ByDivine Grace we have been able to maintainthis unique healing fire. Several countrieshave hosted such a Yajnya over the pastquarter century (Germany, Chile, Australiaand notably U.S.A. where continuous Yajnyawas maintained by a small group of dedi-cated people for approximately 16 yearsfrom September 9, 1978). But as far as weknow, this is the only Yajnya of this type onthe planet at the present time.

To mark the occasion this year it was decidedto conduct another important event. We were

approached by one Shri Nana Kale of ShreeYogiraj Veda Vijnyan Ashram fromKasarwadi, Barsi, District Solapur in southMaharashtra to provide the venue for aParjanya Yag (also known as ParjanyakmeshtiYajnya) which would be one of thirteen totake place simultaneously all overMaharashtra state from 18 th to 23 rd March,2004. The special importance of the ParjanyaYag is that it is said to induce rainfall. Themembers of the ashram have been perform-ing these Parjanya Yag and other MahaYajnyas over the last 22 years and they claim75% success rate. Now Maharashtra andseveral other states of India have been expe-riencing severe drought for the past two tothree years. Despite having had good rains

cided to accept Shri Kales offer to performthis Yajnya as a fitting occasion to mark thebeginning of our fourth year of continuousYajnya here in Tapovan.

On March 17 th nine young Brahmin boys

average about 10 years plus their slightlyolder preceptor arrived at Tapovan to makeready for the beginning of the Parjanya Yagthe next day. They were all housed nicely inthe three new mud and grass huts which wehave recently constructed. These huts, apartfrom being very cool in the hot climate, alsohave the distinction of echoing the days of the ancient Rishis when the entire ashramwould be accommodated in huts similar tothese.

In our huts we have made a few concessionsto 21 st century comforts and they boast semi-attached bathrooms with hot and cold run-ning water plus electric fans.

On the morning of the 18 th the preliminariesbegan with Vyahruti Homa in front of ParamaSadgurus photo in main bungalow followedby aarti (worship). Then at the Yajnya site tothe chant of various Veda Mantras, the con-duct of the Yajnya was passed officially from

    Abhay and Anjali

as owners of the land to the team of youngBrahmins who would now carry on theproceedings for the next five days. At this

time also the fire was started by traditionalVedic friction method

and kept alive till the Parjanya Yag started inthe evening.

Everyone gathered for the auspicious officialstart of the Parjanya Yag at 10 P.M. As sooften happens over here in this rural area wesuffered a power cut at that time and soemergency lighting came into play.

The materials used for the Yajnya were thewoods of special Yajnya trees, pipal (Ficusreligiosa), audumbar (Ficus glomerata),banyan (Ficus bengalensis) plus lavala grass(Cyperus scariosus) plus 100% pure cows

milk and 100% pure cows ghee. A specialkund (fire-pit) had been previously con-structed which would contain the fire.

Once the Yajnya was started it would con-tinue nonstop for five days and five nights.

The young Brahmin boys were very well-versed in the Veda Mantras as they practiseat least ten hours daily as part of the ashramroutine. They were also very well disciplinedfor such young boys and always took a bathbefore Yajnya and sat for Yajnya in wet cloth. They worked in teams of two, each teamdoing a two-hour shift before being relievedby the next team.

Each Mantra cycle lasted approximately sixto eight minutes. It was a wonderful thrill tohear the Veda Mantras of these young boysmingling with the sounds from our own OmTryambakam Mantra throughout the daysand nights.

On the third day a television team came fromthe National TV channel and took somefootage and did some interviews for the localnews.

On the morning of the fifth day we decidedto perform a Rudra Yag as well.

We started near the Parjanya Yag site straightafter sunrise. It was a very sublime feelingknowing that these three Yajnyas were con-tinuing simultaneously: Om TrymbakamYajnya, the Parjanya Yag and the Rudra Yag.

The whole area was totally infused with VedaMantras from these Yajnyas.

In the afternoon, as the last Parjanya Mantrawas sung, we all gathered for the poornaahuti (final offering). Again Abhay and Anjaliwere required for this last segment. The finalofferings were made of cows ghee, using avery large wooden spoon fashioned from thewood of the pipal tree (Ficus religiosa).

And so, to the accompaniment of a final setof Mantras, the glorious Parjanya Yag came toa close.

As a fitting finale to the whole event, lunchwas served to the large crowd of more thanthree thousand which had gathered for thelast day.

After exchanging gifts we bade farewell tothe young Brahmins who had greatly en-deared themselves to us over the preceding

five days, with a promise that they wouldcome again next year to repeat the wholeexercise.

Post script: At the time of writing (May 8, 2004)we have just experienced good rains on the last two days. This is extremely rare at this time of

year, just one month prior to the start of themonsoon. The rains were related to a cyclonein the Arabian Sea off the west coast of India. Was this somehow connected with the thirteen

Parjanya Yags in Maharashtra during March 2004?

    Letter to Satsang

The Agnihotra is such a big help to me. Itgives one relief from the crazy world, espe-cially here in the city. The longer Yajnyas aresuch a big help, too.

I get such a sense of peace and calm from thefires. Then, when I face the world and thevarious situations and people I encounter, Iam coming from a more focused, centeredplace. It makes me feel stronger and givesme a sense of well-being.

Each fire is like a health treatment.

In January, we at Tapovan welcomed our firsteco-tourism group from U.K. The tour wasorganized by Simon-Peter Fuller of WholisticWorld Vision. Simon-Peter gathers togethermany groups each year and visits sacred sitesall over the world, doing healing work atthese sites. The tour at Tapovan was a greatsuccess and plans are afoot for a follow-uptour next year. We offered an Ayurvedictreatment program to each person as well assome hands-on experience of the variousYajynas performed here, including dailyAgnihotra, participation in round-the-clockOm Tryambakam Yajyna, Rudra Yajyna andthe daily discipline program.

The healing treatment, including Ayurvedicmassage and herbal steam bath, followed byan assisted bath with scented warm waterpoured all over the body to wash awaytoxins, was appreciated. Each person had apersonal palm and horoscope reading froman Ayurvedic doctor to determine strengthsand weaknesses in the astrological chart andguidance was given as to which gemstonecould be worn to amplify the strengths. Thiswas also very popular.

A visit by bullock cart, with gaily decoratedbullocks, to nearby Shivadham Temple, followed by lunch in the local village,Ratnapimpri, was a highlight of the trip.

    Eco-Tourism at Tapovan

By about the third day, some healing crisesemerged, as often happens here with theintense energy field. Natural healing, herbaland Ayurvedic treatments were offered toassist successfully in the healing processes.A communal Narmada Mud Bath (men andwomen separate) in the warm sun on theterrace rooftop, was thoroughly enjoyed byall and the revitalizing and rejuvenationeffects were obvious to everyone.

Local artwork, rangoli (mandala design) withcoloured powders and a demonstration of henna painting on the hands created greatinterest as local women shared their specialskills.

A visit to a second village, Bhokarbari, in-cluded sight-seeing at the local lake whichhas grown remarkably in size since the rainshave come abundantly in the last two tothree years. This was an unforgettable experi-ence for the group. The interaction withvillage people, with no common language, but sharing from the heart, touched eachperson deeply.

Vegetarian gourmet food, a mixture of east-ern and western, served on the rooftopterrace buffet-style, was favourably com-mented upon by all.

A visit by young people from Poland and

U.S.A., led by Jacob Sawyer, was all too brief, but coincided also with the U.K. tour group, giving rise to some new connections andinteractions.

Traveling 60 kilometres from Tapovan, thegroup visited Jain Agri Park, which is ownedby Mr B.H. Jain, one of Indias leading indus-trialists. He and his family have also em-braced the practice of Agnihotra. This was aspecial outing which also included someexciting shopping. That evening, a talk byFrancine Blake, founder of the Crop CircleAssociation of U.K., on the crop circle phe-nomenon, raised great interest in the audi-ence.

On our last evening together some local boyscame over to Tapovan with some musicalinstruments and we shared some spiritedbhajans (sacred songs) together.

Bruce and I accompanied the group toMaheshwar where we took a boat-ride up theHoly Narmada River to the Homa Therapynursery on the banks of the river. We shareda momentous one hour communal chanting

of Om Tryambakam mantra, which seemedto be supercharged, followed by RudraYajnya. The day ended with a rooftop groupAgnihotra, overlooking the Narmada River, asa spectacular red sun disappeared below thehorizon. We proceeded next morning to

Indore, via Omkareshwar, a beautiful holyplace on the Narmada River, renownedthroughout India as the river forms the shapeof an Om at this point. We finished in Indorewith a short visit to Karin Heschel and herchildren as the group left Indore by plane. Itwas the end of a most exciting and blessedtrip. The finale came with much sadness withthe departure of many new found friends.

Problems:* Pain in the spinal column* Insomnia

I am 24 years old. For a long time I hadproblems with my spinal column but I didn'tgive them much importance. I could notsleep well and my situation got worse when Ihad a head injury. That was when I began

Healing with Homa Therapyhaving serious problems and I didn't treatthem until the day I woke up with a stiff neck.

I went to a doctor, but the treatment was notgiving the desired results. Rather the oppo-site, the pain increased. It was like a burning.I was in unbearable pain. I could not sleep. The incessant pain was through the deviationof the fifth and sixth cervical vertebra, whichthe doctor verified through an ultrasound. Then the doctor prescribed me antibioticsbut without success. I became addicted topills and I was on the verge of suicide.

Thank God, my desperate husband, who also

did not know how to help me, brought me toDoctor Jaime Montufar, who practices thenatural Homa Therapy of the AyurvedicMedicine. The fires of Agnihotra helped me torelax and to be able to sleep again.

The fires we are practicing now at home helpus to feel better. I am a little emotional be-cause I suffered from this problem a longtime, but I know that if I continue doing thehealing fires I will recover completely.

Dr. Mara del Carmen Ayasta VallejoDirectress of the Ministry of AgricultureRegion - HunucoHUANUCO, Peru

Dear Directress:We are potato farmers from the sector of Amaryllis. This is the first time that we arecommunicating with somebody like you whohas a position in the Ministry of Agriculture. We take the opportunity to greet you andwish you success with your work.

Many years ago we heard our grandparentsand parents talk about how the "Rancha"kept attacking our potato fields nonstop and

each time with more intensity. We observedhow year after year this disease lowered theyield of our crops.

The engineers and salespersons for agro-chemicals always come and offer us moreand more potent poisons. Even if they didnot bring any results, they still make us buytwo or three different ones for weekly appli-cation. But the "Rancha" is still present andcontinues its attacks. Every six months we

spent from 3,000 to 5,000 soles per hectareper crop, and only for the least expensiveones. Even though we used all these agrochemicals, starting with the potato seed, weobserved that our plants had, from the verybeginning, pale, yellowish leaves, as if they

were sick and they remained this way untilthe end of the crop. How we miss the lushgreen potato fields that we saw years ago!

In spite of the agro chemicals, which we usein pesticides and fertilizers, the "Rancha"strikes with force and dries up everything. Itis unavoidable and nothing can stop it. Someof us who still had possibilities to buy morepoisons against the "Rancha" did it, pushedby the desperation and the threat of losingthe whole crop. But most of us lack themoney to buy chemical pesticides. The fun-gus "Rancha", after affecting the leaves andstems, passes on to the tuber. The only thingwe can do is to cut the plant totally before

the fungus passes onto the tuber; if theRancha attacks the tuber after it wasformed we are able to have some harvest, but if the fungus attacks before, then we havelost all our crop. Also, we have to harvestvery quickly after the "Rancha" attack, be-cause two days later the crop begins to rotand we again run the risk of losing the wholeproduction.

    This emergency situation regarding plagues

and diseases in our potato fields does notallow us to have our own seeds from ourland. We have go to look for potato seeds inareas above 4,000 meters above sea level. But to our desperation we have seen now thepresence of the "Rancha" even in these high

areas. We wondered if soon we would nothave any more seeds available. What will wesow? What will we live from? Since we wereborn we learned from our ancestors how tosow potatoes, for our own survival and tofeed a lot of other people.

In the last years we still harvested per potatoplant an average of 1 kilo, now it is only 200grams per plant, mainly second and thirdclass production, some of commercial size. Now, in the fields the biggest production isalready harvested and is without possibilityto be commercialized, since they are eithervery small, attacked by the "Rancha", rottingor with other diseases.

On the average we have harvested thisseason 3,000 kilos/Ha. In the previous har-vests we still had crops up to 18,000 Kilos /ha. On top of this low yield is the low marketprice. As farmers we are extremely desperateand very affected seeing our land refuse toproduce healthy potatoes and each time theproduction comes down.

In this situation arrived Engineer Ever Torres

Martinez from Lima as a representative of theInternational Potato Center and recom-mended us to learn how to coexist with the"Rancha" since there is no chance that it willdisappear because it lives in the soil we arecultivating. He told us to do what all those

who have visited us, already recommended. But we experienced that it doesn't work andit does not solve our "Rancha" problem. The same happened with the visit of theSENASA (National Service of Agrarian Health)Engineer Walter Diaz Burga from Lima, whoagain told us the same thing as all the otherengineers. And every time we felt more leftalone, without support, powerless before theplagues and diseases. Our plantations werehopelessly lost, as if a destructive force wasbehind all this, and nobody could win againstit and we farmers were the most affectedones. It seemed as if we were living a night-mare; we hoped that everything was just adream, but regrettably it was reality.

Approximately 2 months ago the farmingfamily of Len Huaco, whom we observedfor many years in their agricultural potatodevelopment because they are farmers witha lot of experience and with good technicalpreparation for potato cultivation, stoppedusing agro chemicals. They are experts in theuse of agro chemicals; they used it in theirgreat potato extension. They were the big-gest buyers of agro chemicals. But suddenly

with the first rains of September and the timeof the first "Rancha" attack we observed thatthey stopped applying chemicals. This wasthe time they started applying a type of organic agriculture that they told us is calledHoma Therapy.

    13

We kept on observing, more closely, waitingfor results. For us this technique without useof agro chemicals was new. Even thoughsome elements of Homa Therapy werefamiliar to us, like the consideration of thefull moon and new moon, Homa Therapyadded to this also the benefits of sunrise andsunset and the burning of dry cow's manure.

We continued observing; with the first rainsthe "Rancha" arrived and began to destroypotato plantations, but the farm where HomaTherapy was applied resisted the attack. Theyhad only one month of Homa application.Quickly we took interest in learning theHoma Therapy.

The family of Len Huaco welcomed us andassisted with our Homa Therapy training. Also technicians, who are actually farmerslike ourselves, were invited in from otherareas.

This was what we observed through theHoma Therapy effect on the potato crop:

--In 4-month-old plants: The sowing was done

using agro chemicals and during the first fourmonths the chemical applications continued. At this time the plants showed yellowishleaves. Then the work with Homa Therapybegan and no more chemicals were used. The plants became very green and increased

their foliage. They remained green until theend of the crop and the whole plantationresisted the "Rancha" attack. A completerejuvenation happened through the effect of Homa Therapy. We harvested healthy tubersof first, second and third class--that is to say,of commercial size. In areas where HomaTherapy was not applied, the crop was com-pletely lost.

--In 2-month-old potato plants.:The seeds received agro chemicals during thefirst 2 months. The first reaction to the effectof Homa Therapy was shown in the leaves. They were intense green, the foliage in-creased, and the plants had a lot of vitality

and vigor. The growth of weeds was wellcontrolled, facilitating the agricultural work.Besides making the Homa Therapy fires weapplied the ash of the basic Agnihotra fire. The Agnihotra ash was applied in a watersolution every 8 days, using a backpackfumigator. We observed that the Agnihotraash solution acts as a foliar nutrient andcontrols the weeds.

Many of us don't know how to read or to

write, but we learned easily how to carry outthe Homa Therapy fires. We even observedthat some of us with certain diseases gothealed through the effect of Homa Therapyand the Agnihotra ash.

The farmer Alejandro Vega Elas had for 4years very big warts on his hands; he con-sumed weekly 2 1/2 kilos of coca leaves, accompanied by cigarettes and alcohol. Hewas healed from his warts in only one weekof applying Agnihotra ash crme. Also in littletime he learned how to carry out all theHoma fires and stopped the consumption of the coca leaf, the cigarettes and alcoholgradually. He became one of the best farm-ers, qualified to maintain a Homa ResonancePoint.

We were told that one Homa resonance pointreaches 40 hectares. Now after almost twomonths of working with Homa Therapy, itseffect has reached the fields of the neighbors, for which we feel happy. This is how our

nightmare ends. Many are preparing theirland and want to sow the next harvest withHoma Therapy, because we are convincedthat through the effect of Homa Therapy thesick land can be healed.

This way we will have our own seeds, clean, healthy and without use of poison--every-thing only with Homa Therapy. We feel thatour earth and our plants thank us for apply-ing Homa Therapy. Again we can go to ourpotato fields and they are like they weremany years back, very green, very beautifuland full of life.

We feel that life again returns to us, the samelife which our land wanted to take away from

    us, little by little.

We potato farmers want to share this beauti-ful experience with other farmers who are asdesperate as we were. We are very willing totrain anybody who wants to learn and applyHoma Therapy in their cultivation. We weretaught for free and we want to pass it on aswell for free, because we don't want there tobe any more pain from food shortage causedby plagues and diseases.

Mrs. Directress, if you could, make it possiblethrough the Institution, which works in thename for the improvement of the life of thefarmers, to spread the word about the good-ness of Homa Therapy to all poor farmerswho are without hope. We once more state

that we ourselves will train the farmers inHoma Therapy.

It is not a question of liking or dislikingoneself. You take care of the physical bodybecause it is an instrument. You take bettercare to train the mind so that it too can beutilized as an instrument. If there are habitsyou wish to change, do not concentrate onthe bad habit. Replace it with a good one, onewhich promotes good health and awareness. If you tend to be critical of those nearest toyou then make all effort to praise them, compliment them--not to employ flattery, butsincere positive efforts. It will help you. Theother person may also benefit, but you areable to break your habit. It is like that._______________________________________To rid yourself of negative habit patterns,

This stagecan be reached anytime. One does not haveto be a monk or a sadhu. One need notperform years of selfless service in anashram. Of course it is good to do service, but this alone does not usher in this Divinelove. One can be a simple farmer in the field;it is by Grace given. Just be full of love.
