ABOUT THE CONVENTION The journey of Structural Engineering Convention (SEC) began in 1997 with the pioneering efforts of CSIR - Structural Engineering Research Centre (CSIR-SERC), Chennai and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, with the first event held at Chennai. It is a biennial national event, attracting a large number of structural engineers from India and abroad from both academia and industry. The journey continued through IIT Bombay, IIT Roorkee, IIT Kharagpur, IISc Bangalore, SERC-Chennai, Annamalai University, Chidambaram, SVNIT Surat, and IIT Delhi.

The Tenth Structural Engineering Convention 2016 (SEC-2016) will be organized by CSIR - Structural Engineering Research Centre jointly with IIT Madras and Anna University, Chennai during 21-23 December 2016 at CSIR-SERC Chennai, India. CSIR-SERC is a constituent national laboratory of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Government of India, and is making pioneering contributions in the field of advanced structural engineering, including analysis and design, cyclone and earthquake disaster mitigation, sustainable materials, bridge engineering, fatigue and fracture, transmission line towers, and structural health monitoring.

The objective of Structural Engineering Convention (SEC-2016) is to provide a common platform for professional structural engineers, academicians and researchers in the broad fields of engineering mechanics and structural engineering to make themselves abreast of the latest R&D trends, interact, exchange ideas and establish relationships with a view to further enrich the research and development activities in the area of structural engineering in the country.

While the main theme of SEC-2016 is “Advances in Structural Engineering”, technical papers dealing with other contemporaneous areas in the broad subject of engineering mechanics and structural engineering are also welcome. The suggested themes of the convention are listed for the benefit of the prospective authors and participants.

A few sessions will be dedicated to honour eminent researchers in the field of structural engineering.

CSIR-SERC, IIT Madras and Anna University, Chennai, the joint organizers of SEC-2016, invite the structural engineering fraternity to participate and contribute immensely for the success of SEC-2016.
