Even though I am happy that I could see Your iv]ìv]Ðp]\ ivwìv] Ðp]\ that I had never seen before, still my mind is afflicted with fear because of the sheer magnitude and extraordinary nature of Your iv]ìv]Ðp]\ ivwìv] Ðp]\. Therefore, dev] dev] – O! Lord,

p¶nù sèmy]v]p¶: B½tvÅ p¶nù sèmy]v]p¶: B½tvÅ - p—ýs]Ì] xÅnt] m]n¶Sy]v]p¶: p—ýs]Ì] xÅnt] m]n¶Sy]v]p¶: B½tvÅ B½tvÅ - Manifesting Himself again in His cheerful, Peaceful and Beautiful human form BÆt]\ An]\ aj¶*n]\ ˜ìvÅs]yÅmÅs] c] BÆt]\ An]\ arj¶*n]\ ˜ìvÅs]yÅmÅs] c] - Sri Krishna comforted the terrified looking Arjuna, again with pleasing words of appreciation and encouragement. Arjuna’s iv]ìv]Ðp] dõx]*n] \ ivwìv] Ðp] dõrx]*n]\ formally ends at this point. It started with verse 15 and ends with verse 50.

Thus Arjuna has now become ready for the rest of The gÆtçp]dex] gÆtçp]dex – The Teachings of Sri Krishna. Sri Krishna now resumes His Teachings to a spiritually uplifted and more enlightened Arjuna.

B]g]vÅn]/ B]gavÅn says: Arjuna / s¶dudõ*x]*m]/ wd \ Ðp]\ s¶ durdõ*rx]*m/ wda\ Ðp]\ - this vision of iv]ìv]Ðp]\ ivwìv]Ðp]\ that you just had is not only dudõ*x]*m]/ durdõ*rx]*m/ - difficult to see, but s¶dudõ*x]*m]/ s¶durdõ*rx]*m/ - very difficult to see, because it is not easily available for ordinary human beings. More than anything else, one needs B]g]vÅn]/’s B]gavÅn's Grace to have even a glimpse, even a partial or momentary view of ivwìv] Ðp]\ d&SqõvÅn]/ ais] y]t]/ m]m] Ðp]\ d&SqõvÅn/ aisw y]t/ m]ma Ðp]\ - The form of My iv]ìv]Ðp]\ ivwìv] Ðp]\, even to the extent you have been blessed to see dev]ù aip] asy] Ðp]sy] in]ty] \ dõx]*n]äiM/Ü]Nù dev]ù aipw asy] Ðp]sy] inwty]\

dõrx]*n]äiaM/ÜwNù - the Devas also would like to see every day. They are always praying for a glimpse of the cosmic form of p]rõmàìv]rõ p]ramesv]r. Devas also are jÆv]s jÆv]s, even though they are higher in the scale of spiritual evolution, relative to human beings in general. B]g]vÅn]/ B]gavÅn/ is telling Arjuna that because of his Wìv]rõ B]i• Wìv]r B]i•w, Wìv]rõ p—ýsÅdõ\ Wìv]r p—ýsÅdõ\ and the fact of his iv]ìv]Ðp]dõx]*n]\ ivwìv] Ðp]\ dõrx]*n]\, he is even superior to many Devas in spiritual development, which simply means that Arjuna is making good progress towards his goal of Ûey]s]/ Ûey]s/.

The above words of B]g]vÅn]/ B]gavÅn/ make Arjuna feel better, and restore his enthusiasm and Ûõ£­ Ûõ£­ for B]g]vÅn]/ 's B]gavÅn's/ further gÆtçp]dex] gÆtçp]dex Teachings.

B]g]vÅn]/ B]gavÅn/ continues nÅh\ vàdEn]* t]p]sÅ n] d]nàn] n] càjy]yÅ | nÅha\ vàdEn]* t]p]sÅ n] d]nàn] n] càjy]yÅ |

x]ky] Av]\iv]Dç ¨õSq \u d&SqõvÅn]is] mÅ \ y]TÅ || 11 - 53 x]ky] Av]\ivwDç ¨õSqu\ d&SqõvÅn]isw mÅ\ y]TÅ || n] vàdE: n] vàdE: - not by gaining proficiency in chanting Veda Mantras n] t]p]sÅ n] t]p]sÅ - not by doing sever austerities of various kinds n] d]nàn] n] d]nàn] - not by giving gifts to various worthy causes n] c] wjy]yÅ n] c] wjy]yÅ - not even by performing Vedic rituals of various kinds ah\ Av]\ iv]Dù ¨õSqu \ x]ky]: aha\ Av]\ ivwDù ¨õSqu\ x]ky]: - it is possible for one to see Me in this form – in the form of iv]ìv]Ðp] ivwìv] Ðp] d&SqõvÅn]/ ais] mÅ \ y]TÅ d&SqõvÅn/ aisw mÅ\ y]TÅ - in the way you have been able to see Me Sri Krishna has already told this earlier (11 – 48), and He repeats the message again to say something more. In the Form Arjuna has been able to see Sri Krishna in the iv]ìv]Ðp] ivwìv] Ðp], no one else has seen, in spite of great efforts. If that is so, how is it possible for any one to see Sri Krishna in His iv]ìv]Ðp] ivwìv] Ðp]? B]g]vÅn]/ B]gavÅn/ gives the answer in the next two verses which give the essential content of the all-inclusive B]i• yçg] B]i•w yçg]. p]rõmàìv]rõ p]ramesv]r is. One can understand and appreciate the True Nature of p]rõmàìv]r p]ramesv]r. By such knowledge,

p—ývàSqu\ x]ky]\ c] p—ývàSqu\ x]ky]\ c] - it is possible for one to enter into Me, which means one can oneself become That very iv]ìv]Ðp] ivwìv] Ðp]. One can discover oneself as That iv]ìv]Ðp] ivwìv] Ðp] Itself. Thus an]ny] Wìv]rõ B]i• an]ny] Wìv]r

B]i•w is The Means for eliminating the distance between oneself, and p]rõmàìv]rõ in oneself. By such elimination, Wìv]rõ p—ývàx]n] \ Wìv]r p—ývàx]n]\ is accomplished and thereby one reaches one’s p]rõm]/ DÅm] p]rõm/ DÅm – ultimate destination, one’s mçÜ] sTÅn]\ mçÜ] sTÅn]\, iv]SNç: p]rõm]\ p]d \ ivwSNç: p]rõm]\ p]da\ in oneself. Arjuna has not reached That State of Existence yet. Therefore, the Message here is that an]ny] Wìv]rõ B]i• an]ny] Wìv]r B]i•w, is The Means for gaining Ûey]s]/ Ûey]s/,

Now, how does one gain That an]ny] Wìv]rõ B]i• an]ny] Wìv]r B]i•w? B]g]vÅn]/ B]gavÅn/ says:

This is one of the very important verses in the entire B]g]v]t]/ gÆtÅ B]gav]t/ gÆtÅ. In this verse, B]g]vÅn]/ B]gavÅn/ integrates the essential content of äým]* yçg] äýrm]*

yçg] described in Chapter 3, and that of B]i• yçg] B]i•w yçg] described in Chapter 9, into ONE practical Means for gaining jÆv] b— ýÀõ °ky]\ jÆv] b—ýÀõ

°ky]\, which means, gaining mçÜ] mçÜ].Therefore the above verse can be considered as the All-inclusive äým]* yçg] äýrm]* yçg] or the All-inclusive B]i• yçg] B]i•w yçg], both being identical.

s]v]*B½tàS¶ simultaneously at all times under all circumstances, s]: s]:- that person mÅ \ Ait] mÅ\ Aitw comes to Me, reaches Me, meaning, that person naturally matures to gain Ûey]s]/ Ûey]s/, mçÜ] mçÜ] – that person ultimately becomes ONE with p]rõmàìv]r

p]ramesv]r.

In short, to cultivate and maintain an]ny] Wìv]rõ B]i• an]ny] Wìv]rõ B]i•w

throughout one’s life, BE a m]t]/ äým]* äët]/: m]t/ äýrm]* äët]/:, m]tp]rõm]: m]tp]rõm]:, m]¤õ•: s]¯ýv]ij]*tù m]¤õ•a: s]¯ýv]irjw*tù and in]vð*r” s]v]*B½tàS¶: inwrvð*r”

s]rv]*B½tàS¶: simultaneously at all times, under all circumstances. Thus this integrated form of äým]* yçg] äýrm]* yçg] and B]i• yçg] B]i•w yçg] has 5 distinct components, which are not mutually exclusive, but which are mutually complementary.

Let us now try to understand what these 5 components are in terms of one’s daily life.

1. m]t]/ äým]* äët]/ B]v] m]t/ äýrm]* äët/ B]v] - Be a m]t]/ äým]* äët]/ m]t/ äýrm]* äët/.

Any äým]* äýrm]* done as a service to p]rõmàìv]rõ p]ramesv]r is m]täým]*äët]/ m]t

äýrm]*äët/. Therefore, be a m]täým]*äët]/ m]t/äýrm]*äët/ means be one for whom every äým]* äýrm]* is only Wìv]rõ äým]* Wìv]r äýrm],* iv]s]g]* äým]* ivws]rg]* äýrm]*

Wìv]rõ aip]*t] äým]* Wìv]r airpw*t] äýrm]* - äým]* äýrm]* totally dedicated to p]rõmàìv]rõ p]ramesv]r. Be one who performs all actions in the pursuit of p]rõmàìv]r

p]ramesv]r only. Be one who never comes under the hold of one’s r­g]©eS] r­g]

©eS] forces - forces of one’s likes and dislikes in the performance of any äým]* äýrm]*; äým]* äýrm]* consistent with the in]im]–]mň]\ B]v] [p]dex] nwimw–] mň]\

B]v] [p]dex], be one who does every äým]* äýrm]* in the service of p]rõmàìv]r p]ramesv]r only – which means be one who does every äým]* äýrm]* only in the terms of one’s own sv]D]m]* sv]D]rm]*, as äým]* äýrm]* that needs to be done as a matter of one’s duty to oneself, as äým]* äýrm]* that has been naturally, and specifically left for one to do as the Will of p]rõmàìv]r p]ramesv]r. This kind of attitude in performing any äým]* äýrm]* presupposes knowledge about p]rõmàìv]rõ

p]ramesv]r, knowledge about one’s sv]D]m]* sv]D]rm],* and total commitment to the service of p]rõmàìv]rõ p]ramesv]r.

2. m]tp]rõmù B]v] m]tp]rõmù B]v] means Wìv]r” Av] p]rõmÅ g]itù B]v] Wìv]r” Av]

p]rõmÅ g]itw B]v]- Be one for whom p]rõmàìv]r p]ramesv]r is The ultimate Destination in life, nothing less. Be one for whom the whole purpose of performing any action as Wìv]rõ äým]* Wìv]r äýrm]* is to become ONE with p]rõmàìv]rõ p]ramesv]r Itself. Be one who never loses sight of p]rõmàìv]rõ p]ramesv]r as the ultimate goal to be reached. This kind of vision in performing any äým]* äýrm]* also presupposes a knowledge of p]rõmàìv]rõ p]ramesv]r and a total commitment to the

pursuit of p]rõmàìv]rõ p]ramesv]r.

3. m]¤õ•: B]v] m]¤õ•a: B]v] - means s]v]*p—ýä­rE: Wìv]rõ B]•: B]v] s]rv]

*p—ýä­rE: Wìv]r B]•a: B]v] - With heart and soul, be an enthusiastic Devotee of p]rõmàìv]rõ p]ramesv]r at all times under all circumstances, which means, as B]g]vÅn]/ B]gavÅn said earlier (10 – 9, 10)

enjoying oneself and fulfilling oneself in the company of p]rõmàìv]rõ p]ramesv]r already within oneself

worshipping p]rõmàìv]rõ p]ramesv]r by every appropriate means, traditional to one’s own sv]D]m]* sv]D]rm]*

being thus totally committed to the pursuit of p]rõmàìv]r p]ramesv]rõ, m]¤õ•: B]v] m]¤õ•a: B]v]

BE an Wìv]rõ B]•: Wìv]r B]•a: with Love and Devotion for p]rõmàìv]r p]ramesv]r, for the Glories of p]rõmàìv]rõ p]ramesv]r and for the knowledge of p]rõmàìv]rõ p]ramesv]r. Through such Wìv]rõ B]i• Wìv]r B]•w, by the Grace of p]rõmàìv]r

p]ramesv]rõ, one gains b¶i£õ yçg] b¶i£w yçg] by which one reaches p]rõmàìv]rõ p]ramesv]r Itself.

4. s]¯ýv]ij]*tù B]v] s]¯ýv]irjw*tù B]v] - BE free from obsessive attachments to, and emotional dependence on worldly objects and worldly relationships. Why? ˜tmÅ ˜tmÅ – The p]rõmàìv]rõ p]ramesv]r – is as]\g]: as]\g]: - totally free and unattached. As B]g]vÅn]/ B]gvÅn/ said earlier,

n] mÅ \ äýmÅ*iN] il]mp]int] n] mÅ\ äýrmÅ*iNw ilwmp]intw (4 -14) [d­sÆn]v]t]/ ˜sÆn]\ as]• \ tàS¶ äým]*s¶ [d­sÆn]v]t/ ˜sÆn]\ as]•a\ tàS¶ äýrm]*s¶ (9 – 9)

äým]*s äýrm]*s do not touch p]rõmàìv]r p]ramesv]r. p]rõmàìv]rõ p]ramesv]r exists in all actions and relationships only as a sÅÜÆ sÅÜÆ – Witness, totally unconnected, uninvolved and unattached. The ultimate goal of an Wìv]rõ B]• Wìv]r B]•a being p]rõmàìv]rõ Itself, reaching that goal is possible, only when all attachments or bondages to äým]* äýrm]* – created objects and relationships totally disappear. Therefore, s]\g]v]ij]*tù s]\g]v]rijw*tù – be free from all kinds of worldly attachments and bondages. Finally,

5. s]v]*B½tàS¶ in]vð*r” s]rv]*B½tàS¶ inwrvð*r”, x]ˆ¶BÅv] rõihõtù B]v] x]ˆ¶BÅv]

rõihwtù B]v] - Be free from any sense of enmity towards all beings – any being. With one’s vision on p]rõmàìv]rõ p]ramesv]r only, and recognizing that p]rõmàìv]rõ p]ramesv]r is in everything, everywhere, at all times, and always remembering vÅs¶devù s]v]*m]/ wit] vÅs¶devù s]rv]*m/ witw, p]rõmàìv]rõ p]ramesv]r is ALL, for an Wìv]rõ B]• Wìv]r B]•a, there is really no enemy. If one behaves as an enemy, it

is only because of that person’s p½v]* äým]* p½rv]* äýrm]* – past actions, and such enmity has no real existence. Therefore, cultivate dispassion towards all beings, and s]v]*B½tàS¶ in]vð*r” B]v] s]rv]* B½tàS¶ inwrvð*r” B]v] – be without any kind of enmity towards any being, towards all beings.

Such is the nature of the 5 components of the integrated form of äým]* yçg] äýrm]*

yçg] and B]i• yçg] B]i•} yçg]. Therefore, Sri Krishna says that an]ny] Wìv]rõ B]i• an]ny] Wìv]r B]i•w, at all times, is the key for reaching p]rõmàìv]rõ p]ramesv]r in oneself – for reaching mçÜ] sTÅn]\ iv]SNç: p]rõm]\ p]d \ mçÜ] sTÅn]\

iv}SNç: p]rõm]\ p]da\ in oneself, and the Means for cultivating and maintaining an]ny] Wìv]rõ B]i• an]ny] Wìv]r B]i•} in daily life is to Be a m]t]/ äým]* äët]/ m]t/

äýrm]* äët/, m]tp]rõm]: m]tp]rõm]:, m]¤õ•: s]¯ýv]ij]*tù m]¤õ•a: s]¯ýv]irj}tù

and s]v]*B½tàS¶ in]vð*r” s]rv]*B½tàS¶ in}rvð*r” at all times. So saying, Sri Krishna concludes this 11th Chapter of B]g]v]t]/ gÆtÅ B]gav]t/ gÆtÅ entitled iv]ìv]Ðp]dõx]*n]yçg] vwìv] Ðp] dõrx]*n] yçg].

This Chapter is an extraordinary one in the entire B]g]v]t]/ gÆtÅ B]gav]t/ gÆtÅ, in terms of its essential content with respect to [i–]SQõ m]nˆ] [i–wSQõ m]nˆ], in]im]–]mň] \ B]v] [p]dex] inw imw–] mň]\ B]v] [p]dex] and what exactly one should be and one should do in order to cultivate, and continue to maintain an]ny] Wìv]rõ B]i• an]ny] Wìv]r B]i•w through out one’s life. With a deep sense of appreciation and gratitude for the Uplifting Message of this Chapter, let us recognize, see and enjoy the Vision of Sri Krishna in His iv]ìv]Ðp] ivwìv]Ðp] as p]rõmàìv]rõ yçg] p]rõmàìv]r yçg] (9 – 5 and 11 – 8) and let us do n]m]sä­rõ n]m]sä­r to Sri Krishna, with Devotion and contemplation, reciting a few of the Prayer Verses of Arjuna, before we go to the next Chapter.
