Pranav Varma and Amit Rajaraman of Class IX qualified for the second round of the DPS Math and Science Talent Examination and secured 9th and 33rd ranks respectively.

Ishika participated in the National Festival of Classical Dance and Music held at Kantaveera Indoor Stadium, Bangalore. This rare feat has created a Guinness World Record.

Kailash Datta Boggaram participated in the longest chanting marathon for 24 hours, 8 minutes and 8 seconds achieved by a team of 582 participants at Frisco, Texas, U.S.A.

M. Shreyas Reddy of Class II ‘D’ won the ‘Sakshi India Spell Bee Contest’ for Category 1 of Telangana State. Shreyas spelt the maximum number of words correct and won a Gold Medal and a cash prize of Rs. 25,000.

Karthikeyan Sahgal of Class I ‘H’ participated in State Level Karate Championship and won a Bronze Medal in the 5 – 9 years category for boys.

Spell Bee Contest 9th December, 2015 It was time to identify the spelling wizards from Class I on 09.12.2015, as Topaz house conducted a ‘Spell Bee Contest.’ After a complete participation of the entire class in the preliminary round, the best from each section were selected for the final tussle in the final round. The winners of the final round were declared after a nail biting finish.

Gift Wrapping Contest 10th December, 2015

December brings in Christmas and the joy of giving. Every gift signifies magic that is wrapped. It is indeed a skill to wrap a gift for it requires creativity and talent. Students of Class II participated with great zeal and enthusiasm in a ‘Gift Wrapping Contest’ conducted by Topaz house on 10.12.2015 and came up with innovative designs and ideas for wrapping a gift.

Click and Win Contest 11th December, 2015

We all live in a digital age and the ability to use technology to seek answers to questions and reach out across the world, opens the mind to a vast expanse of knowledge. To test the dexterity of children’s operating abilities and level of confidence Topaz House conducted “Click and Win Contest” for Class III on 11.12.2015. The contest saw overwhelming participation and the best three students from each section were selected as winners.

English Play Contest 9th December, 2015

Sapphire House conducted an ‘English Play Contest’ for class VI on 9th December 2015. The competition was conducted section wise and four teams from each section were selected. Each team comprised of 6 to10 children. Children picked a topic of their choice and only one period was given for practising the play. Teachers were swapped to judge the competition. The criteria for judgement included content, dialogue delivery, clarity of speech and presentation. The best team from each section was awarded as winners. List of winners from each section:

Numerical and Verbal Reasoning Test 10th December, 2015

Topaz House conducted an Inter House Contest in ‘Numerical and Verbal Reasoning’ on 10-12-2015 for Class IV students. A Numerical and Verbal Reasoning test measures a student’s ability to engage with the language medium and logical analysis. This helps to identify their wider reasoning ability and potential. The test contained questions testing vocabulary, verbal analogies, logical reasoning, and symbol manipulation using letters, numbers and words in sentences. The best three students from each section were awarded I, II & III positions based on their individual score.

Smart Chef Contest 10th December, 2015

The vital concept of “Smart Chef” was created to raise ‘Food-Smart Kids’ at D.P.S., and inculcate in kids a love for real food-which is honest, nutritious and healthy. The categories for entries were, sandwich, fruit salad or chat, vegetable salad, sprout chat or salad, healthy drinks. Students were encouraged to make their own aprons and head gears using old newspapers and charts. Discipline, team work, hygiene, presentation and taste of the food items were the parameters to choose the outstanding contestant. Eating healthy was fun and to cook food without fire was creative. It is aimed to help the students take responsibility of their own growth and health. The judges Mrs. Manjusha, a nutritionist, Mrs. Radhika Nagori – Co-ordinator Pre- Primary - D.P.S. declared two winners –first and second positions with one consolation for every class. One overall title “SMART CHEF “for the year 2015-2016 was also declared by the judges. The event was a grand success.

Inter House Computer Contest 14th to 18th December, 2015

An Inter House ‘Computer Contest’ for Std. VII was held between 14 Dec and 18th Dec 2015. The topic for competition was MS Excel. Students were given a particular worksheet on ‘INVENTORY’ to design which involved usage of few functions and tools. Students were given a stipulated time within which they were expected to present the data sheet with final calculation and format. Selection of winners was on the basis of speed and accuracy. It was heartening to see the effort and enthusiasm amongst students to achieve excellence and perfection in their presentations.

Inter House Dance Contest 11th December, 2015

As a much-needed interlude from the busy academic schedule, Topaz House organized an ‘Inter-House Dance Competition’, ‘Exuberance’ on Friday, 11th December, 2015 for the students of class VII. With their incredible performances, these Dipsites showed the house what it meant to set the stage on fire. The judges were Ms. Satwika Penna, a trained dancer of Andhranatyam from Lasya Academy, Hyderabad and Ms. Lalitha from the Music Department. The dances comprised of two categories – Western and Indian. The latter included both traditional classical dances and folk dances. Full of pizzazz and undeniable energy, the students’ performances sure gave those watching a rush of adrenaline. The criteria to select the best of the dances were facial expressions, costume, choice of song and body movements. The following were the winners:

Debate Contest 7th December, 2015

An Inter-House Debate Contest was conducted by Topaz house for Class 8 on the topic ‘Should the International Baccalaureate (IB) program be standardized as the higher form of education?’ on 07.12.2015. With increasing globalization this is a frequently asked question. This topic gave the students a fresh insight into their future educational options. All the speakers were extremely enthusiastic and confident. The criteria for judgement were content, presentation, originality and expression. The debate was won by topaz house. The best speaker award was also given out by the judges. This debate competition enlightened the students about the new opportunities the future holds for them. List of Winners:

Ad Designing Contest 7th December,2015

Topaz House conducted an Inter-House Ad-Designing competition for classes 9 and 10. The topic for class 9 was ‘Food and Beverages’ and ‘E-commerce’ for class 10. The ad -designing competition was done individually enabling maximum participation and students showcased their artistic and creative skills in making posters to advertise a variety of products and services. Students participated very enthusiastically and unleashed their creative and marketing skills. The criteria for judgment were originality, creativity and presentation. List of Winners:

Special Assemblies Christmas Celebrations 11th December, 2015

Every year the month of December brings with it the festive mood of Christmas and the forthcoming New Year. It is a period of joy, happiness and merrymaking. It is the time of the year when the whole world comes together to celebrate new hopes, wishes and aspirations. Soaked in the spirit of Christmas, the tiny tots of Nursery and Class II celebrated the festival with fervour and joy. The venue was drenched in a mood of festivity. The stage was brightly decorated with the beautiful Christmas tree, snowman and gifts around it. Children spoke flawlessly about the significance of this very special festival. The echo of melodious carols and the manger scene showcased the true spirit of Christmas. The spirit of joy and sharing dominated the spirits of everyone who watched the show and danced along with Santa Claus. The assembly ended with a beautiful thought for the day: "When you do good, you feel good and when you feel good, you get joy and when you get joy, it might inspire others to do the same".

World Disability Day 3rd December, 2015

Inclusion Matters to Exclude Disability

“I am conscious of a soul-sense that lifts me above the narrow, cramping circumstances of my life. My physical limitations are forgotten- my world lies upward, the length and the breadth and the sweep of the heavens are mine!” These are the words of Helen Keller, who epitomizes the struggle to overcome her disabilities. In an attempt to promote an understanding of disability issues and to create an outlook of understanding and empathy, the students of Delhi Public School, Hyderabad observed 3rd December as ”World Disability Day” in accordance with the resolution made by the United Nations General Assembly that declared December 3rd as World Disability Day. In order to create an awareness about the day to day challenges faced by disabled children in their personal, social, academic and recreational aspects of life, a number of activities were organised at various levels on different themes. Students of Class VI participated in a poster making contest on the theme, “Empowerment for person with Disability.” Colourful poster conveyed the sense of love, affection and acceptance that students had in their hearts towards disabled people. Thought provoking essays on the topic, “Disability Provisions in India”, highlighted the need of integrating such members into the mainstream society. Activities like these generate a positive and empathetic attitude and foster in attaining holistic development of the students.

Ganit Week Celebrations

In order to commemorate the 128th birth anniversary of Dr. Ramanujan, Delhi Public School, Hyderabad made on humble attempt to mark the celebrations. In this connect a special assembly was organized which showcased the life and contribution of THE WIZARD. Students were informed about the invention of magic square. A quiz was also conducted on the life and contribution of Indian mathematicians. To ignite the mind of the young children challenging puzzles were given to groups of students of Classes - VI & VII. Activities like these will certainly help generate interest towards the subject and raise the analytical abilities of the student.

Special Assemblies & Educational Trips SPARDHA, Annual Sports Day-2015-16

“Children learn as they play. Most importantly, in play children learn how to learn.” - Mr. O. Fred Donaldson, a specialist in the use of play as an alternative to aggression, violence and abuse, and an international consultant in the field of education. SPARDHAA, the Annual Sports Day of Delhi Public School, Hyderabad, junior wing, was held on 30th December, 2015 at the GMC Balayogi Athletic Stadium at Gachibowli. About 1803 students of Nursery to Class V demonstrated their talent on the field, be it in competitive races or vibrant drill display or rhythmic music.

The ceremony began with a guard of honour, a ceremonial march past, taken by the esteemed Chief Guest, Mrs. Janaki Sharmila, Additional DCP, Intelligence Department, Telangana State and Guest of Honour, Ms. Naina Jaiswal, an International Table-Tennis Player from Hyderabad. This was followed by a welcome address by the Principal, Mrs. Rekha Aggarwala, under whose guidance DPS Hyderabad has reached soaring heights and has proven its excellence in academics and extracurricular fields.

The audience was enthralled by the rendition – ‘khwab hai, saad hai followed by ‘Vandemataram.’ The students of Pre-Primary wing presented an effervescent drill display ‘Vibrant Blossoms’, depicting ‘Rainbow’ which reflects God’s artistry, conveys hope of a new beginning and illustrates nature’s colour. The students of grade V marched proudly displaying their house colours, green, red, blue and yellow. The contingent was led by the Head Boy and Head Girl, marching confidently to the rhythm of the drum beats, displaying coordination, team spirit and discipline. The ceremonial hoisting of the flag, releasing of the doves and colourful balloons, lighting of flame and oath taking ceremony elevated the spirits, keeping up with the tradition of DPS.

The H.O.D. of Phy. Edn. Dept. presented the school sports report making a mention of the students who brought accolades to the school in different events at the national, state, district sports meets and also Inter-school competitions in the twin city. Then unfurled the numerous fun races by the students of classes Nursery to class III and track events by students of classes IV & V. Drill with flags, tassels and dumbbells were exceptionally well coordinated. The Swiss ball drill display by the students of class IV was the highlight of the event. It is worth mentioning that this was the largest contingent of students performing with Swiss ball till date. The spectators were captivated by some nail biting finishes in races, stupendous drill display and the spectacular formations by the young Dipsites who left everyone spellbound with their poise and confidence. The Chief Guest in her speech encouraged the students to make sports and games part of their life as it helps in the all-round development as a child and helps build a personality. Ms. Naina Jaiswal, the Guest of Honour urged students to pursue their dreams with a sense of perseverance. The flag drill formation bidding goodbye to 2015 and welcoming the New Year, 2016 was the last event of the evening. The event ended with the sports meet declared closed by the Chief Guest, lowering of the sports flag and rendition of the National Anthem. Sports Update Jr. NBA Reliance Basketball Tournament 19th& 20th December, 2015

Delhi Public School played host to various schools and their budding basketball players participating in the basketball tournament conducted by Jr.NBA in association with Reliance, held on the 19th and 20th of December,2015.

This Hyderabad level tournament was played out between 8 schools, who were the winners and runners of the Zonal level tournament held on the 14th and 15th of December, 2015. The tournament consisted of a variety of contests such as hotshot and three-on-three apart from the usual five-on-five, so as to showcase both individual as well as team skills. It aimed at encouraging students to give basketball a shot while simultaneously selecting the exceptionally good players to form a team for nationals.

Delhi Public School HYD and K.V.N.P.A bagged first position in five-on-five girls and boys, under 16 category respectively.

DPS HYD also won a number of other awards. Naina Gill and Arjun Sachin Rao of Class IV were placed 1st in hotshot, Under 10 Category.

Ananya.A, Pooja.R, Srihitha Reddy and P.Kavya won the three on three contest, Under 14 Category.

All awardees were given an NBA T shirt with the individual winners also receiving a basketball and a trophy.

It was a fun filled, adrenaline pumping event where players thoroughly enjoyed themselves as, winning or losing, is all just a part of the game.
