Executive Summary – The Changing Face of Swat
Pre 2007: Better TimesSwat, a vacation destination. Apple orchards, honey cultivation. Folk music and dance.
2007 – 2009: TalibanisationTaliban invades. Draconian Islamic Law imposed. Sanctions over the freedom of women.Girl’s schools declared anti-Islamic, bombed indiscriminately.
Post 2007Pakistani army regains control. Schools being reconstructed and education beingrejuvenated. Taliban continues to drive fear among the people. Bombings still frequent.
OBJECTIVE:Quality education for women, respectful of Islamicbeliefs and teachings. An education that truly reflectsthe meaning, values and sense of Islam. A system thathelps Muslims regain their much deserved pride.
Why educate the girl child?
She is the building block, the foundation to human civilization
She is the harbinger of life, the one who nurtures and moulds a child’s value system
Lack of education renders her incapable, forcing her to piggy back throughout life
To bring up a generation of awakenedand empowered Muslims
What sense does Jihad hold when our mothers, sisters and daughters
suffer everyday
To realize and endorse the true identity of
Islam across the world
How does it benefit the Taliban?
The Taliban must not stray away from its original mission to safeguard the Afghanisagainst warlords.
To uphold the rights of its people and ensure justice in the land
The word‘Talib’ itself stands for 'student’. The Taliban originally sought to impose a traditional code of behaviour to ensure peace. This code was adopted in the form of Sharia Law. It was under the Talibs that Afghanis actually experienced true unity and freedom after the decades long Soviet wars.
This noble mission was diluted by the succeeding commanders, who sought military and political power over the large global Muslim population.
This is the opportunity for redemption. An opportunity to whole-heartedly work towards what the Taliban actually stands
for: The UNITY, BROTHERHOOD AND HARMONY among fellow Muslims as well as with the larger world populations.
The Implementation Plan
Increase opportunities for womenReduce incidence of exploitation and subjugationEmpower them to become change agents and leaders
• Taliban in 2009 destroyed more than 400 schools in the SWAT region. Rebuild and refresh the educational infrastructure of the region.
• Collaborate and support the charity organizations and NGOs working in the sector through contribution of manpower, security and undiminished support.
• Urge and encourage the government to increase % GDP spend on education in Swat as well as across Pakistan.
• Promote the true Islamic virtues of purity and truthfulness by making an unconditional promise to the people of Swat that the Taliban actually stands for their rights.
• Contest for electoral power in a democratic manner, that will help the Taliban in forwarding its cause and consolidating its position FOR and OF the people.
• Stop all counts of illicit and militant activities in the region.
