Brief Profile

Dr. D. ASIR RAMESH, Scientist (E) is working in Integrated Social and Economics Division of National Centre for Sustainable Coastal Management (NCSCM), Ministry of Environment and Forests Climate Change (MoEF&CC). He is 47 years old. He is working on coastal, marine and ocean subjects for the past 27 years. He is educationally qualified in B.Sc., Zoology, BA Economics, MA Sociology, MA Political Science, M.Sc., Marine Biology, Ph.D., in Marine Science. In addition he was qualified in Diploma in Human Resource Development (DHRD) and also in Diploma of Public Relations and Communications (DPR&C). His experiences in coastal environment includes capacity building on coastal zone management, capacity building to develop livelihoods of fishermen, institutional and organisational analysis for coastal zone management, capacity assessment of integrated coastal zone management in India, ICZM plan preparation for Andaman and Nicobar Islands etc. He worked as a training officer in the World Bank assisted Integrated Coastal Zone Management project under Ministry of Environment and Forests and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) and developed India ICZM project for capacity building for coastal zone management in India. He worked in Planning Commission as a consultant in Agriculture Division and assisted the agriculture division in 11th Plan preparation for agriculture sector including fisheries. For his field experience he worked at various capacities in 25 research projects which were sanctioned by MoEF&CC, Government of India. His research studies are mainly around stakeholders, especially fishermen salt workers, coastal tourism, institutional and organisational development for Coastal Zone Management, CRZ mapping, database development for coastal zone management. He also associated in various projects related to fauna, flora, ecosystems, conservation and management of coastal environment etc. He published about 50 research papers including international, National and journals and popular articles. He assisted and coordinated to develop many scientific and technical reports for Government to implement CRZ Notification and coastal zone management in India.
