ForewordForewordIn its endeavor to provide social security cover to millions of India's work force covered under ESI

Scheme, major thrust is being given for providing quality health care through ESIC Hospitals to the beneficiaries of ESI Scheme. ESIC is providing medical care in the form of medical treatment and attendance to IPs and their families in respect of medical, surgical and obstetric treatment under Section 56 of ESI Act. The provision includes domiciliary visits, outpatient treatment, specialist consultation, diagnostics facilities, inpatient treatment, super specialist treatment, referral treatment, old age medical care and physical rehabilitation.

The cash benefits under ESI Scheme are Sickness Benefit, Extended Sickness Benefit, Enhanced Sickness Benefit, Disablement Benefit - both temporary and permanent disablement, Dependant's Benefit and Maternity Benefit. Unemployment Allowances under the Rajiv Gandhi Shramik Kalyan Yojna is also an additional Cash Benefit.

Since the year 1952, ESIC has come a long way in establishing hospitals in various parts of the country. The Corporation has, so far, set up 150 Hospitals and 42 Hospital Annexes, 1372/91 dispensaries/ISM Units. Super Speciality treatment is also available in some of the ESI Hospitals. The cases are referred to Tie-up Hospitals (about 800 in nos.) empanelled in each region, wherever such Super Speciality facilities are not available in ESI Hospitals.

To adapt with the changing health delivery scenario in the country and also to be the best in terms of infrastructure and other facilities, ESIC has chalked out an ambitious programme for modernization of its existing hospitals. The modernization programme is being implemented in a phased manner. Efforts are on to add state-of-the-art facilities in terms of machinery and equipments as per the requirement. The medical institutions of ESIC are striving to be 'Centers of Excellence'.

The Hand Book 'Arogyam' gives a brief of the facilities provided by 34 ESIC Hospitals directly run by the Corporation. (Other 116 ESI Hospitals are functioning under the control of the respective State Governments, as per the mandate of ESI Act, 1948). All efforts have been made to include user friendly details for the benefits of our Stakeholders.

I am sure that this Hand Book will be of great help to the Stakeholders of ESIC, especially the Insured Persons and their family members, particularly in the context when the IPs can avail the treatment at any of the hospitals of ESIC as per their choice.

Immunization services are provided in Pediatric OPD on Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays and Family Welfare facilities in Obstetrics & Gynecology & General Surgery. Allied facilities like Physiotherapy & Yoga are also provided.

A DOTS centre set up under the National Tuberculosis Control Programme tests the sputum and DOTS medicines are distributed to the patients. Counseling and testing facilities through Trained Counselors and Technicians are being provided through the ICTC established under the National AIDS Control Programme by State AIDS Control Society.

The 200 bedded, ISO: 2008 certified hospital has out-patient and in-patient facilities with all necessary infrastructures. With the renovation of the hospital under phase I, the bed strength will go up to 250 and is expected to start some ne super-speciality services like plastic surgery, medical oncology and gastroenterology . Inaugurated on 30th April, 2011, this Hospital is the first Super Speciality Hospital of ESIC. The hospital was planned to provide super speciality facilities by ESIC doctors in the disciplines of Cardiology & Cardio Thoracic Surgery, Neurology & Neuro Surgery, Nephrology & Urology and Paediatric Surgery. With 100 beds, the hospital is fully air conditioned with all

and state-of-the-art modular operation theaters, 3 Tesla MRI & 128 slice CT machine. The

OPD of the hospital gets around 250 referred cases per day from various hospitals. The

Located in the eastern most corner of Guwahati city adjacent to the borders of Meghalaya, the hospital is well connected by road with the rest of the city of Guwahati. Inaugurated on 30th November, 1961, The ESIC Model Hospital, Rajajinagar, Bangalore has always been a referral hospital for the other ESI Hospitals of Karnataka. The 150 bedded Multi Speciality Hospital with a campus area of 16.2 acres of land is situated in the remote village of Ezhukone in the District of Kollam and is a referral centre for IPs attached to 13 ESI Dispensaries. The hospital provides service to more than 1 Lakh IPs and their families. The Casualty, OPDs, Laboratory, Ayurveda Unit, Plaster room, Male Medical Ward & ICU are situated in the A-Block. Accredited with ISO 9001: 2000, the 330 bedded ESIC Hospital, K.K.Nagar, Chennai, which is a model speciality hospital, is catering to the medical needs of around 7 lakhs ESI Insured persons of Chennai City besides giving treatment to the patients referred from other parts of the country. ESIC took over the hospital from Tamil Nadu Government on 1.4.1991 and later on it was converted into an Occupational Disease Centre for South Zone.
