TAOSHOBUDDHA
The word Taoshobuddha comes from three
words, tao, sho, and Buddha. The word Taowas coined by the Chinese master, Lau Tzu. It
means that which is and cannot be put intowords. It is unknown and unknowable. It can
only be experienced and not expressed in words. Its magnanimity cannot be condensed intofiniteness. The word Sho implies, that which isvast like the sky and deep like an ocean carries
within its womb a treasure. It also means oneon whom the existence showers its blessings.
And lastly the word Buddha implies the
Enlightened One; one who has arrived home.
Thus, Taoshobuddha implies one who isexistential, on whom the existence showers its
blessings and one who has arrived home. TheEnlightened One!

Preface
aoshobuddha is an enlightened master.Sitting in his presence one feels the call from
the beyond within the being. This first volume in
the series Taoshobuddha Upanishad is entitledThe Gosse was never in.
In the past Upanishads were very brief treatieson spiritual visions that the seers had incommunion with their Guru Master. Yet still
these overflowed profound wisdom beyond thedimensions of the known. The Prasnopanishad is
an appendix of the Atharvana Veda. It is namedso, since it is in the form of questions (Prasna)
and answers.
This implies, the Upanishad discusses moreelaborately some topics dealt with briefly in the
Mundakopanishad. It has thus become a
commentary on the Mundakopanishad.

For example, the Mundaka says that Vidya is of
two types: Para and Apara, and that AparaVidya is of two kinds: Karma and Upasana. Of
these, the second and third Prasnas in thisUpanishad deal with Upasana. Since the
discipline of Karma is fully covered in the KarmaKanda it is not elaborated here. When both
Karma and Upasana are practised, regardless of
the fruits thereof, they promote renunciationand non-attachment. This is the conclusionarrived at by the First Prasna. So, if the
Prasnopanishad is studied after the Mundaka,
the subject would become even clearer.
Of the two entities, Parabrahma - God,
Universal Oversoul and Aparabrahma - Thelower self-unrelated to the Oversoul, the
Aparabrahma is incapable of conferring the
Purushaarthas - goals of life, which are of
lasting value. Realising this, and eager to attainthe Eternal Parabrahma, the aspirantsapproached the competent Teacher, Pippalada. The word Anveshamaanaa - seeking used hereto signify the attitude of the disciple shows that
these, attached to the Aparabrahma, fail toidentify their own basic truth as the Atman. That
is why they still seek it, somewhere outsidethe truth of their being! The eternal unique
Parabrahma principle can be known only

through the discipline of the Sastras, directed
personally by a Guru or Teacher.
The seekers have to approach the Guru, as aSamithpaani; that is to say not simply holdingthe ritualistic fuel, the sacrificial fire. It alsoimplies the presentation of worthy desirable
offerings. The seekers meet Pippalada and hetells them, The rare and precious teaching
related to the fundamental mystery of theUniverse and the Self, known as Brahma Vidya,
cannot be imparted to the uninitiated. Thestudents have to be first kept under observation
and tested for a year.
The modern mind has since lost the spiritualintuitive flights of consciousness and so Masters
are given to more elaborate discussion onquestions posed by their disciples.
In this initial volume Taoshobuddha responds tosome probing questions posed by his friends onthe spiritual sojourn.
I have chosen to compile these responses into aseries of talks in the spirit of Upanishads. The
title The Goose was never in gives afundamental insight into the dilemma of themind. We are too busy trying to solve the
problems of the world without first ascertainingthe problem of the world. When we look to see

what is the problem we come to realize there is
no problem. There was never any problem. Theworld is in perfect order. It is the way it is. The
world simply IS.
Goose can represent many things. But I havechosen goose to mean nothing and everything
- shunya and purna in the words of the ancientUpanishads. The mind cannot contain the goose.
Hence any attempt by the mind to demystify thegoose is an attempt in futility. When we come to
see the reality, we realize the goose was neverin. This is enlightenment in its simplest
expression - simple yet profound.
This dawning of the realization that the goosewas never in seems simple enough. But even
after reading it the mind lingers in pursuit ofsolving the puzzle. Reading cannot help in this
puzzle. Seeing is needed. To see is to know. Thegoose was never in. There is no need to get it
out.
The message of the master is in your hand
The Goose was never in.

Foreword
panishad is indeed a unique way of
communion between the master and thedisciple the one who knows and the one who
aspires. Upanishad is the journey oftogetherness.
The word Upanishad comes from Sanskrit
language. The word Upa is verb that mean tosit. The word sit is not used in an ordinary
meaning. The word to sit will be meaningless ifit is not followed by an adverb. It is adverb that
can modify a verb, an adjective, anotheradverb, a phrase, or a clause. An adverb
indicates manner, time, place, cause, or degree

and answers questions such as how, when,
where, how much. Therefore the second word ni adds the dimension of innerness. This
dimension is the essence of master disciplerelationship. It means closeness. Indeed it
defines the verb and adds another dimension tothe act. And finally the word Shad completes
the meaning.
Indeed Upanishad is the way of inward journeywithout which inner flowering is impossible and
the seeker does not attain fruition. Upanishad isthe way a disciple flows and merges in the
unfathomable ocean of Totality theEnlightened One Master.
Indeed I am happy to write this foreword for the
works of my beloved friend and disciple SwamiAnand Neelamber for his efforts to edit these
intimate talks between master and disciple.
Thus Taoshobuddha Upanishad Volume 1 The Goose was never in is the beginning of anew series of master disciple talks edited and
presented by Swami Anand Neelamber. Forthis future humanity will always remember him.
I have known Swami Anand for the last twentyyears when he was directed to me for hisInterest in Sri Aurobindo and Yoga. The

association began. Every week he would visit
my business place where along with worldlybusiness I used to undertake the work of
transformation of human consciousness.
Each time he came with questions and thusbegan the process of inner transformation. Then
one day when as he stood at the office door
there was no diary in his hand. I asked him forthe question he had none. This was thebeginning of Sanyas and a new journey.
Later one day he expressed the desire to beinitiated. He got his initiation in the NaqshbandiSufi order in the name of a Master Sufi BrijMohan Lal. I gave him a new name Swami
Anand Neelamber. It was a new beginning, acomplete discontinuity with the past and the
beginning of an inward journey.
His new name meant one who is the master ofbliss or anand which is divine in nature and vast
like the blue sky. A new being entered him. Heremained in my association both for worldly and
the inner transformation. And this process stillcontinues.
He edited and compiled some of my talks andcompiled as Meditation the way to self-
realization and others. Because of his

Enlightenment
Question:
What is enlightenment and why should oneseek it?
Taoshobuddha:
ou have asked a basic question. The answerto this question is not mere answer. That will
be philosophical if I just answer the question. And philosophies have not helped anyone. I
have to respond mystically so that the response

can create an insatiable quest in you for
enlightenment.
Certainly I can explain what is enlightenment?
However why should one (you) seek, it iscertainly your decision not mine.
A master can simply create an insatiable energyin you for enlightenment. Certainly he will notforce on you. The decision has to emerge from
deep within you as the energy and
consciousness interplay. The master is verypassive. There is no aggression. His way is thatof the water. Water keeps on falling drop bydrop on the rock and makes a hole. Or when
water constantly strikes the stones ultimately itbecomes sand.
What is the destiny of a seed? It is not there toremain on the shelf. It has to be bought by theright person. Then the soil is prepared and the
seed is planted. And one day it bursts into aseedling. Up to here the growth happens in
darkness. This is unconscious growth. Yet still itis growth. After the seed has grown into
seedling the growth process is in light. The
process continues. Each stage is relevant. Thenone day the season of spring comes. Flowers
blossom in abundance as the expression of joy.

There is beauty, fragrance, and magnanimity.
The bees gather the journey of the seedcontinues. Then one day flower gives way to the
fruit. Again one day the fruit becomes seed. Theprocess continues.
The stage of flowering is the beginning of the
enlightenment of the seed. This is followed by
the stage beyond enlightenment the stage offruition. The journey of the seed does not stopuntil seed finally becomes seed. In the process
the seed experiences its consciousness
unconsciously.
Enlightenment is the blossoming of the seed ofthe being. The master through his blossoming
creates a silent yearning in you so that yourprocess may also begin. He does nothing
apparently. He goes on bringing flowers from
deep within and once the flowering begins itnever stops. In myriad way the flowers showeraround him. This is an expression of
spontaneous overflow of joy that the existencefeels when a seed attains to fruition.
My experience is that once you are enlightened,
you are so full, overflowing just like a rain
cloud, you want to shower. There can be noother way then.
