AMIE After B.Tech/B.EB.Tech/B.E holders can get AMIE in the same or additional branch of engineering through AMIE examination. They can appea
for AMIE examination at any center and when they clear certain number of subjects they get another degree in engineering !!
Who Is Eligible?
B.Tech/B.E holders from recognized university, no mark restriction.
Procedure
Step 1. Apply for 'Associate Membership'.To become an "Associate Member", download, print out and fill "application form t
become Associate Member".
Step 2. Seek help from any 'Supporter' known to you to verify your photograph and signature. A supporter is normally a senio
AMIE/ MIE/FIE holder who will introduce you to the engineers community called the IEI (Institution of Engineers, India ).
Step 3. Pay fee of Rs 3200/- as DD, drawn in favour of "The Institution of Engineers (India)" payable at Kolkata. This is the fee
for registering as an Associate Member.
Step 4. Filled up appplication form along with fee and necessary documents are to send to IEI Kolkata. Once your membershi
is granted you become an AMIE, (viz Associate Member of Institution of Engineers) in the same branch of your B.Tech.
Step 6. If you want AMIE in another branch of engineering, then you may apply for Section B examination.
AMIE Syllabus For B.Tech Holders
As B.Tech/B. E holders, the number of subjects and the syllabus they need t o study to get an additional degree depends o
three factors.
1.The engineering branch in which they already B.Tech/B.E
2.The engineering branch they choose in AMIE
3.The optional subjects they select in the choosen branch in AMIE
As general rule, all B.Tech/B. E passed candidates will get complete exemption from Section A. They need to clear Section B
subjects only. In Section B also, they will get exemption of those subjects (or its equivalent subjects) which they alreadystudied during their B.Tech/B.E course. As a rough estimate the maximum number of subjects they have to appear is eight.
Duration
AMIE examinations are conducted in every June and December. In one chance a student can appear for a maximum of
subjects. If a student has to clear 8 subjects in Section B, he can clear all these subjects in two chances i.e, in one year.
Lab and Project work
In Section B a student has to do project work and laboratory experiments. The project work is to be carried out under th
guidance of Project Guide allotted by IEI. Complete instructions on this shall be intimated to the student from IEI. In projec
work, a student do not have to fabricate any "projects" as in conventional way.
A student who cleared at least 5 s ubjects in S ection B can do project work and laboratory experiments.

experiments shall be available on website in last week of May and November, respectively. The list will indicate the name and
address of the project guide and / or name of the college / institute for laboratory experiments. In addition, all such candidates
shall be informed by ordinary post with due information to their project guide and / or the college.

The code number of project work is 901 and of laboratory experiments 902. These code numbers are being used
for related correspondence and centre-wise provisional results.
IMPORTANT POINTS TO REMEMBER
No acknowledgement is sent regarding receipt of examination form / registration for Section B / examination re
registration / application for project work / laboratory experiments. However, membership numbers of all eligible
applicants for registration of Section B are made available on website a week prior to Summer / Winte
examination. For candidates applied for registration of Section B / examination re-registration, separate identity card
shall be issued.
For any examination-related enquiry, students are advised to send the mail only at [email protected]. Please d
not send exam-related enquiry to any other e-mail ID.Efforts are made to reply queries as fast as possible
However, in certain cases, it takes time for verification.
EXAMINATION RE-REGISTRATION
As per Examination Rules, the prescribed maximum period for passing Section A or Section B Examination is si
years. Candidates, who are unsuccessful in Section B Examination after the expiry of six year period, are eligible to
apply for Examination Re-registration.
Rules for Examination Re-registration:
Section B Candidates, who did not pass all subjects in Section B in six years, shall be permitted to appear afresh in
Section B Examination retaining their Section A status.
In such cases, subject(s) passed during six-years, if any, shall be forfeited and they would need to pass Section B
Examination afresh within another stipulated period of six years. Also, they would be required to do project wor
and the laboratory experiments during the six-year period of Examination Re-registration.
They would be required to apply for Registration of Section B on the prescribed proforma with a demand draft o
Rs. 4500/-(US $ 200 for overseas candidates), in addition to demand draft of Rs. 2,500/- for Examination Re-
registration with filled-in prescribed format.
Candidates are advised to apply for the same so as to reach at the IEI Headquarters latest by October 5, 2014
failing which they will not be eligible to appear in Winter 2014 Examination.
On receipt of the application for examination re-registration and registration for Section B, as applicable, wit
requisite fee, a new identity card shall be issued to all such candidates.
