    TRAM:

SrI Nrusimhan has many mantrams that assure us our protection from all

afflictions. Mantram has been defined as "mananAm traayatE iti mantra:".

Mantram is defined here as that on recitation and japam protects the one who

recites it. Among the many mantrams associated with Sri Nrusimhan , the One

revered as "Mantra Raajan" is the most powerful one. It was created by the

Sarvajn~an, Sri Rudran (Sankaran) and is housed in ISvara samhitai as Mantra

    Raaja pada stotram.

This mantram is also known as Sri NrusimhAnutup Mantram and is set in

anushtup meter, which always has 32 aksharams. Sri Rudran, who is

omniscient has assembled these 32 aksharams in to 12 padams and housed each

padam into a slOkam and presented it as a stOtram to Lord Narasimhan.

In this stOtram, Rudran makes it clear that Sri Nrusimha BhagavAn is MahA

VishNu sabdavAchyan. Rudran pays tribute to Lord Narasimhan as the owner of

all the wealth (vibhUtis) in the world represented as Sentient and

insentient. With the conviction that Lord Narasimhan is the Sarva Seshi

(Uncontested Supreme Master of All ), Sri Rudran performs SaraNAgati at the

sacred feet of SrI Lakshmi Nrusimhan.

The Mantra Raaja Pada StOtram can be recited by all during the three

sandhyaa kaalams of the day and on days in which the constellation of Swaati is

in ascendance. Once one is received as upadEsam from a SadAcAryan, the

NrusimhAnushtup mantram can be used for Mantra Japam during PradOsha

Kaalam. The phalans arising from the japam of this mantram are many:

"smaraNAt pApagnam", destroyer of all sins by sheer recall of His name

spelled out in the Mantra Raaja Pada stOtram

"krUra grahai pIDitAnAm abhaya pradam", it provides fearlessness for

    those tormented by fierce navagrahams

Driving away all ghosts and goblins as well as all physical illness and taapatrayams.

blessing one with what is desired as boons (VaancitArtha pradhAyakam) and

making us objects of His limitless kaaruNyam (apAra

KaruNaa Sindu) and accepting our SaraNAgati for Moksham.

When HiraNya Kasipu hit the stambham and asked his son if his Lord was there,

Lord Narasimhan jumped out of that pillar with a rare scream that shattered

the ears of HiraNya Kasipu (karNau samAcUrNayan gOra: tava rava: abhut).

This sound was never heard before by anyone and shook the heart of HiraNyan

with an indescribable shaking and made Brahma Devan shudder at His Aasanam

    at Satya lOkam (daitya hrdayE kaScana kampa: sampapAta;

    ambhOjabhUrvishTarAt calita:)

ugram vishNum aham namAmi - To that ugra Narasimhan jumping out of the

ugra stambham at Ahobilam, adiyEn's salutations!

Our Lord Narasimhan took a form, which was neither human nor animal; Above

His neck, He had the face of a Lion (Simham) and below the body of a man

(Naran). He killed HiraNyan neither during the day time nor night time but

destroyed him during sandyA kAlam, which is neither day nor night. Our Lord

Killed HiraNyan on the steps of the palace, which is neither inside nor outside

the house of HiraNyan. Our Lord killed HiraNyan neither with lifeless weapons

nor any living thing but He used His nails that has no life of its own and yet it

was alive in the sense that it grows. All these boons and their protections

offered by the itara dEvatAs were bypassed by the MahA Veeran Lord

Narasimhan this way and His avatAra Kaaryam was fulfilled.

This namaskAram and reference to cognize things without appropriate

indriyams is a distillation of several upanishadic mantrams. about the Supreme

    Brahaman

    Commentary:

The Mundaka Upanishad (2.2.7) states for instance in this context: "y> svR}>
