ಶುರು�ಾದ �ೖ�ಕ �ಾಜ�ಾರಣವನು� ತರುವ ಪ�ಯತ�, ಈ ವಷ�ದ �ೕ 5 ರ �ೂ�� ಇನೂ�ರಕೂ� �ಚು� ಜನರನು� ಶ�ಮ�ಾನ �ಾಡಲು

��ೕ�ೕ��ತು. ಇನೂ�ರು ಜನರ ಶ�ಮ�ಾನ�ಂ�ಾ� 9000 ಕೂ� �ಚು� ಜನರ �ಂಬಲ, ��ೕ�ಾ�ಹ ಗ�ಸಲು �ಾಧ��ಾ�ತು. ಈ ಎಲ�ರ ಸ�ಾಯ,

ಸಂ�� ಗಣ�ೕಯ ಪ��ಾಣದ�� ಾ��ರ�ೕಕು. ಬಸವನಗು�ಯ�� ನ ಜನ ��ಾ�ವಂತರು, ತಕ� ಮ�� ತಮ� ಕುಟುಂಬವನು� ��ಾ�� ನ�ಸುವಷು� ��ವಂತರು. ಅಂದ�

Ashwin’s Message

Whenever we see a public problem - with roads, or drains, or buses and other things around us - we tend to think, "why can't they do something about this?" It

is a natural question. If we can think of simple ways to fix many of these problems, then why can't those who are in charge of them realise the same things?

It is too easy to say, "corruption", and forget about it. That is partly true, but it is not the end of the answer. One of the most important reasons why many

problems remain unsolved is that 'we' have been waiting for 'them' to solve the problems. That's never going to work. Our problems are social, they are not

technical or managerial, so our entire society is responsible for solving them.

In recent months, I have repeated one point on numerous occasions. Our number one goal for the development of India should be to 'increase the number of

problem-solving people in our society. And the first step to doing that starts with the person in the mirror. Get involved. Make a difference.

A politician, social technologist, former astronomer, former NASA scientist and a leader of Lok Satta Party.

He is the Karnataka State party president and member of the National Steering Committee of the Lok Satta Party.

He did his schooling at Army High School, Bangalore and Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School (1986), Chennai and then

studied Physics at St Joseph's College of Arts and Science (1989). Later, he did his MBA from Pondicherry University (1991),

M.S. in Astronomy from Vanderbilt University (1993) and PhD in Atmospheric Science/Climate Science/Geophysics from

the University of Washington (1999).

Social Aspect:

Sri.Ramachandra has plunged himself to solve civic issues from the past 15 years, Worked on many civic issues faced in and around Basavanagudi area.

He has written a number of letters about civic issues to the concerned departments (BBMP, BWSSB, BESCOM, traffic, Local MLA. corporator) and fixed many of the civic issues in Basavanagudi area through proper follow up of the same.

He has also worked as Secretary of Banashankari 1st Stage Kshema Abhivruddhi sangha for 6 years, As a secretary arranged many meetings between Civic authorities, Elected representatives and citizens so that the public grievances could be addressed.

From 2010 worked as a secretary for Citizen action forum (CAF), worked for bangalore water shortage issue providing solutions to BWSSB supporting lake rejuvenation and fixing leaky water pipes.

Self Assessment property tax draft which was prepared by Sir.Ramchandra was accepted by the government and implemented across the state.

Also Involved in Garbage disposal issue, Sri.Ramachandra has given presentations to BBMP officials on how to segregate the wet waste and dry waste. Through public meetings across RWA's he has created public awareness about many of the development and infrastructureprojects across the city. He has filed many RTIs and created accountability among the officials when he sited discrepancies in the project implementation.

He has waged a war against irregularities in Kalyana mantapa construction and has raised many complaints with BBMP and concerned departments if there is any violation of laws. He has provided many s o l u t i o n s t o t h e T r a f f i c p r o b l e m s i n B a s a v a n a g u d iconstituency by interacting with traffic department. He has worked extensively on footpath encroachment across Basavanagudi and raised complaints if any footpath was encroached.

Sri.Ramchandra has taken up the issue of private versus public transport. Nowhere in the world has the model of strengthening infrastructure to meet the needs of private transport worked. He as part of CAF has given proposals whereby the usage of private transport is minimized because of a strong public transport system, there by improving the bus service from BMTC.

Sri.Ramchandra believes that problems Bangalore city is facing needs local solutions. These problems are related to us, created by us, they have to be solved by us. As part of CAF he had presented a Citizens budget to the BBMP which was well appreciated by the BBMP.

He believes in participatory democracy, identifies the problems in the

constituency and gives apt suggestions to the MLA and to the local

corporator on the issues.

Heroes are not the ones who possess extra-ordinary powers but they are ordinary blokes who use ordinary powers to achieve extra-ordinary goals

A Brief personal Introduction:

Sri.Ramachandra was born and brought up in our very own Basavaanagudi.He completed his Primary schooling from Rashtreeya Vidyalaya school and then went on to pursue Diploma in Engineering from Sri Jayachamarajendra Polytechnic college ( SJP) Bangalore. He has served NGEF in various designations for 30 years and eventually retired as a manager.

LS Representative: Your Basic Profile and profession?

Kiran: Kiran Kumar K.S working for Philips as a technical specialist.

LS Representative: How did you get to know about LSP and what motivated you to join LSP?

Kiran: I was fed up with the corrupt political environment of our country. I supposed there are no alternatives for it, I was planning (was just a thought at

that time) to contest in the previous Graduates Constituency election. During the election year, one of my friends led me to Dr. Ashwin Mahesh who was

contesting in the same election. I wondered since he was an Ex - NASA scientist who is working for the betterment of the society and talking about Clean and

Ethical politics. I was inspired by him. Committed people like Shanthala Damle, Dr. Meenakshi Bharath, and their works and concerns towards society

inspired me to be the agent for change and then I came across Dr. Jayaprakash Narayan and his thoughts motivated me to join Loksatta party.

LS Representative: What were your contributions to LSP in the previous Assembly elections? What activities have you participated in LSP

election campaign?

Kiran: In Basavanagudi Constituency I played my role as a ward coordinator for Srinagar. In the initial days we met lot of people at parks, offices, and fields

and tried to explain need of clean politics to the society and party like Loksatta, why do they need to support people like Dr. JP and Shanthala Damle,

explained the party principles. I have campaigned door to door, around commercial hubs and organized/ participated in Bike Rallies, Road shows etc. Have

met people who were the strong supporters of LSP and followers of Dr.JP, pursue their help to spread word of Shanthala and LSP.

LS Representative: What are your goals and how are you planning to contribute to the society through LSP

Kiran: I would be part of every event which is organized for the betterment of our society by LSP. I will be chunk for branding our LSP for Clean and Ethical

Politics. I am hoping for a movement in India, to make India free from corrupt Politicians. To make it happen voluntarily I will work with Loksatta party and

continue my fight against corruption.

LS Representative: Any message you want to give to today's youth?

Kiran: I have seen many successful revolutions in many countries including India only because of involvement of youth. Being a youth, I call all Youngsters to

start to think about society from today itself. We have been seeing lot of youngsters (indeed everyone) spends more time in just cribbing, and never involve

in any of the social activities. It's not me alone who will bring in some change in the society. Many of us may not have the caliber to do so many things

individually. So, even I am lending my time to people like Shanthala, Dr. Ashwin and Ravi. Since we are confined by Democracy, We should not forget that, we

can't escape from POLITICS. Meaning for term Politics has to be rejuvenated. Things are not different today, we as youth of this nation has bigger

responsibility to make our society forthcoming positive instead of complaining on others. We have to build concern towards society and start working for

the betterment. We need to play our part, finest.

Total bribe paid by adult urban Indians each year – Rs. 6,29,675 Cr (Based on Janaagraha center for Citizenship and Democracy’s estimate of Rs. 26,932 on average in a year, paid in bribe by an average urban Indian. This figure was multiplied by 233 million, which is 62% of India’s urban population between age 15 and 59)

Total bribe amounts to 6.3% of India’s GDP, 320% more than income tax revenues, 353% more than defense budget, 2,151% more than health expenditure, 942% more than education expenditure and 741% more than food subsidy.

The total bribe paid by urban India is 34% more than five big scams combined since 1987

1 in 2 Indians is forced to pay a bribe when dealing with public institutions. Globally, its 1 in 4.

The top five cities where citizens pay the most bribes are : 1. Chennai – Rs.92,352; 2. Delhi – Rs.23,175; 3. Mumbai – Rs.10,101; 4. Bangalore – Rs.8,618; 5. Kolkatta –Rs. 4,761 (Cumulative per year, per person)

Of the total bribe paid, 30% towards Police for verification for passport, 25% towards Traffic Police to overlook violations, 15% towards Civic officials to register property, 10% towards Transport of officials to get a driving license and 20% towards others.
