WOY WOY By Public School Scholars. The following local men have enlisted for the front, and are now proceeding to the Liverpool Camp;- Charlie

Watts, Giles Jenkins, “Ginty” Murphy and Jack Singleton. Good luck to them all, and safe return.

WOY WOY Send-off to Our Soldiers. Woy Woy has sent a number of soldiers to the front,

including the Cox Brothers, who died in Egypt. The two

latest recruits are messrs “Ginty” Murphy and Charles

Watts who are to sail with the next contingent on Mon-

day evening last they were entertained by the towns-

people in the local hall, which was tastefully decorated

for the occasion. Both lads are held in high esteem by

the general community, and there is little doubt but that

they will do their part as soldiers of the Empire. Cr.

John Bourke occupied the chair. In proposing the

“toast” of “Our boys”, Rev. W.M. herford (who has just

returned from a health trip to the mountains) wished

their young soldiers God speed, and feelingly referred

to the late Cox brothers, of Blackwall. The toast was

supported by Mr Phil Glenister, who said he hoped that

Messrs Murphy and Cox would return safe and sound.

They had proved themselves worthy sons, and he

hoped their action would prove an incentive to other

able-bodied young men to follow in their footsteps. Mr

“Ginty” Murphy, in responding, said they did not look

for any compliments. They were going to the war be-

cause they felt duty, and that the Empire had need of

them. He appreciated the kindness of the Woy Woy

people, and he only regretted more of the young men

of the town and district were not going with them. He

considered that the freedom enjoyed under the British

flag was being challenged, and that it was the duty of

every Australian and every Britisher to defend that

freedom, so dearly bought in the days gone by. Mr

Charlie Watts also made a suitable reply. The toast of

“The Empire” was proposed by Mr L Aubrey, sup-

ported by Mr H.J. Gates. Mr F.C. Warmoll proposed

“Our Allies”, the toast being supported by Messrs

Drinkwater and Vokes. “The Parents” was proposed

by Mr W.S. Hadley, to which Mr h Watts responded.

Several other toasts were proposed, including “The

Chairman”, Cr Bourke acknowledging Mr A.

McCallum’s kindly remarks. A special vote of thanks

was on the motion of Rev. W. M. Herford, accorded Mr

Warmoll for the excellent manner in which all arrange-

ments had been made, and Mr Latta was thanked for

allowing the use of the hall. During the evening musi-

cal items were rendered by Messrs Vokes, Adams,

Gates Misses Pointer and Booth, and recitations by

Messrs Stuart and Aubrey.
