NEXUSMinhang,Shanghai

A NEXUS is the pinnacle where multiple elements converge, interact and collaborate. The New Xinzhuang Metro Station is a future nexus between physical and simulated networks dedicated to expanding the architectural spectrum from a regional transportation hub to a vivid conjunction of travel, recreation and engagement market of the community. The Redevelopment of Xinzhuang Station will redefine the role of transit relating to the new lifestyle of freedom, customization, and recreation, and spread as a prototypic node with metro access in future megacities.

Situating in Southwest suburb of Shanghai, the 25-year-old Xinzhuang Station has been complaint for its coarse function organization and outdated circulation in recent years which necessitates a complete redefinition towards the regional transit in 2030. The New Xinzhuang station will first and foremost extend the urban fabric over rails and driveways that rifted the community in order to create a continuous recreation belt across the rail line.

The extraordinary construction speed brings both opportunities and challenges in the last 15 years and will extend to the foreseeable future: the exploding population would give rise to numerous satellite townships to Decentralize urban resources; the sprawling metro system would Integrate logistic delivery to enclose the commercial chain; the skyrocketing web use would remove commute via Mobilized working venues. The New Xinzhuang Station is thereby oriented towards a nexus of transit Freedom, Customized retail and communal Recreation.

The shopping center takes advantage of the vacant lot between traffic corridors and intersects wi th the green be l t o f the surrounding landscapes. In terms of circulation, the bypassing trains will take the outermost track to avoid unnecessary stops whereas the arrival trains enter the central platform to set up a temporal mall with specified merchandises. The two wings of station, meanwhile, spread out bilaterally beyond traffic interruption to stitch the community with recreation facilities.

Page 8: Portfolio 2016 Ziwei Wang

As ide f rom the le i sure programs , the New Xinzhuang Station accommodate two types of trains simultaneously for the purpose of passenger and freight transportation apiece. The Passenger Trains would only have one car with a detachable passenger capsule that can be switched at the revolving dock. The Freight Train carries department stores featuring products of a certain franchise. These two models will lay the foundation of the operative pattern of Xinzhuang Station and diversify the interactions between different scenarios.

Winder Tower I* Baoshan,Shanghai

Known for heavy industry tradition, the District of Baoshan is planning to resurrect from the obsoleted impression. Coasting the dramatic waterfront in East China Sea, the city was scheming a vast area of land for public recreation pioneered by the Winder Tower CBD. With the investment of Shanghai International Port Group, the previous marsh land is turning into a spectacular compound of office, hotel, retail and SOHO.

PARK

The new development is dedicated to develop a series of parks and eco systems for leisure living, working and entertaining in order to reverse the clinched impression of the community. Our project sits on the junction of coast drive and tunnel that speaks on behalf of the entire region, a symbolic area that has to tie into new adjacent community and park system. In the meantime, the design could not abandon the heritage of the region.

With all supporting buildings embraced, the wrap concludes on the main tower in a rising and spiraling gesture. The museum is housed between the layers open to magnificent skylight. The shape of the Main Tower is inspired by the classic light house from the Shanghai Port.

This scheme embodies a sense of unification that summons all buildings into a single concept. The museum sits in between flares that wrap around the observation tower and elevate to the top which ultimately merged into one skin. The wrapping skin of the lower level, flips and converges into the central plaza to enhance centralization. The center of plaza sinks down to the underground dinning plaza and hence merges into the gigantic retail level.

Situated in the hinter land of Indiana, the city of Columbus is the home of an exceptional rich collection of art and architecture masterpieces, namely the Miller House and North Christian Church by designed Eero Saarinen, Cleo Rogers Memorial Library designed by I.M Pei, and First Baptist Church by Harry Weese. The Exhibition Center of Columbus is a converging venue dedicated to articulating and escalating the rich heritage through exhibition and performance art. Aside from permanent and temporal exhibition areas, this new facility would also incorporate resource center, visitor housing and an auditorium stage.

Movement and Rythum are the one of the most pivital feature of the building to be emphasised in terms of the narrow and linear Site. The wood sluts alined along Washington street would intrigue a parelle movement from north to south, creating a vary of open and solid. It also contributes to the shading system to avoid direct sunlight into display area. On the upper floors, the intense "wood screen" helps privacy protection. The wood texture increases the natural flaor of the building overall. At the meantime, the double high frosted exhibition “Chunk” creates interaction with movement on 6th ave, from east to west. The Materality and Opacity of the building reflects the division of activities and privacy of the program

Designed by Mies van der Rohe in 1945, the Farnsworth house is an American legacy of German modernism, representing the high minimalism of post WWII. Mies had devoted his career seeking an architectural reconcile between individual need and mass social production, and the Farnsworth house is an extraordinary expression of natural engagement fulfilled by industrial progress. This masterpiece has been possessed and operated by Historic house museum since 2004 open for general public. The new exhibition center is therefore, adopts an ultra-simplistic steel framework revering to that epic era of modernism architecture.

Kroger, the leading franchise of grocery chain was investing on the research on the configuration of natural format. With that embodied on some of its flagship stores, Kroger was ambitious to ugrade toward a health-thematic brand amongst the millenniums. The Central Parkway site at downtown Cincinnati, is a fresh manifest of natural grocery in crowded business center that requires the extra compatibility and integrity of the store in light of its condensed shelfing space. Exteriorly, public exposure is much more straight forward starting from the adaptability to the store theme as well as the neighboring urban fabric.
