Hospital Patient Room Design Study
What room parameters facilitate or interfere with different stakeholders (users)• Sensitization with photo taking• Focus groups• Interviews• Observations
Goal: develop design guidelines for patient rooms that meet the physical and cognitive needs of all hospital personnel who work in these rooms, as well as patients, family members, and visitors.
Work collaboratively with researchers in Engineering, Design, Health Informatics on all aspects of the research (study design, participant recruitment, collecting and analyzing quantitative and qualitative data, composing reports and peer-reviewed papers); directed work of other students.

Hospital Patient Room Design Study
Build the room you want to work in• Participatory design mock-up
session• 2D whiteboard modeling• 3D full-scale toolkit
Build the room you want to work in• Scenarios• Usability testing in
simulated room

Hospital Patient Room Design Study
Patient-centered in-bed environment design• Participatory design approach • 3D experience modeling toolkit
Input from patients and visitors• Focus groups• Surveying • 3D full-scale experience
modeling as stimulus
Resolving conflicts and developing design guidelines• 3D full-scale experience model• Focus groups• Surveying • Scenario usability study
Jing Li ABOUT PROCESS WORK CONTACT
Evaluation of an Intervention for Echocardiographer
Evaluate an intervention (articulating supporting arm system) prototype to reduce the exposure of Echocardiographer to risk factors associated with work-related upper extremity musculoskeletal disorders
Prototype Evaluation
• Setting: Hospital clinic with pseudo-patients
• Evaluation of performance (image quality)• Quantitative posture analysis • Muscle activity (electromyography) • Assessment of usability, usefulness, desirability, and barriers
Jing Li ABOUT PROCESS WORK CONTACT
Facilitating Organic and Fun Social Engagement for Elderly Adults
Development of a variety of mechanisms that invite elderly adults to self-organize individual or group activities.
Work collaboratively with graduate students from Design and Arts Administration, Education and Policy in conducting secondary research, facilitating co-design workshops and leading interviews, as well as developing multiple prototypes.
