 Mr. Douglas Bosco  Chairman of the Board of Directors California Coastal Conservancy 1330 Broadway, 13th Floor Oakland, California 94612  Dear Mr. Bosco;  As a member of the California State Assembly, I am pleased to support the Brentwood Agricultural Land Trust’s acquisition of an agricultural conservation easement on the Stenzel property in east Contra Costa County.  I represent California Assembly District 15, which includes the Brentwood farming region and the Stenzel property.   The Brentwood farming region has produced food for the Bay Area since the 1880’s.  It remains one of the largest, most productive farming regions in the Bay Area.  Located just 40 miles from seven million Bay Area residents, 12,000 acres of Brentwood farms continue to provide the East Bay with fresh, healthy fruits and vegetables.  Contra Costa agriculture also provides the Bay Area with jobs and beautiful open space, as well as intangible historical, cultural and community benefits.    In 1990, the Contra Costa Board of Supervisors recognized the importance of the Brentwood farming region by creating the Contra Costa Agricultural Core.  However, over the past twenty years, intense urban development has encroached on Brentwood’s farmland.  I applaud the efforts to permanently protect this valuable resource with conservation easements so that future generations will have a local source of food.    I am pleased that the Coastal Conservancy is working with the Brentwood Agricultural Land Trust to permanently protect the Stenzel property, and I urge the Coastal Conservancy Board of Directors to approve funding for the Stenzel conservation easement.   Sincerely,   Joan Buchanan   cc.   Amy Hutzel, Director Bay Area Program   Melanie Denninger, Project Manager
