Amidst rising temperatures and power demand, meetings of Board of Directors of Uttar Pradesh
Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd (UPRVUNL) and Uttar Pradesh Jal Vidyut Nigam Ltd were held
here late evening yesterday under the Chairmanship of IIDC and Principal Secretary, Energy, Mr
Anil Kumar Gupta in the presence of Chairman & Managing Director, U.P. Power Corporation
Ltd, Awanish Awasthi, Managing Director, UPRVUNL, Shri Dheeraj Sahu, among other directors.
It was informed that two new thermal power generation units - Unit-9 of 250 MW Harduaganj
power station and 250 MW Unit-5 of Parichha will start generation in June. Addition of this 500
MW power generation capacity will result in total generation capacity of State sector thermal
power stations to 4,777 MW. IIDC and Principal Secertary, Anil Kumar Gupta said that it will help
in meeting the rising power demand to some extent.
Managing Director, UPRVUNL, Shri Dheeraj Sahu, informed that Net Power generation by State
sector power generation stations was 18,537.94 Million Unit (MU), against which an amount of
Rs. 5112.47 crores of revenue was realized for the year 2011-12. According to the estimated
figures, revenue of Rs. 7326.52 crores is expected against a net generation of 24,491 MU in 2012-
13. Total expenditure for the year 2011-12 was Rs. 4,515.79 crores and Rs. 6,078.32 crores is
expected in the year 2012-13. After deducting total revenue expenditure, Gross Operating Surplus
for the year 2011-12 was Rs. 631.69 crores, whereas, an amount of Rs. 1280.20 crores is estimated
for the year 2012-13.
In view of the required and expanding scope renewable energy resources, another equally
important meeting of Board of Directors of U.P. Jal Vidyut Nigam Ltd (U.P. Hydro power
Corporation Ltd) took place under the Chairmanship of IIDC and Principal Secretary, Energy, Mr
Anil Kumar Gupta. It was informed that as against the target of 924 MU, 1431.51 MU hydro
power was generated in the State in the year 2011-12.) The board approved the proposal for
preparation of bid document by Alternate Hydro Energy Centre (AHEC), IIT, Roorkee for project
execution on Turn-key basis through EPC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction) contract for
1500 KW Khara small hydro power project in Uttar Pradesh. It may be noted that U.P. Jal Vidyut
Nigam Ltd hydro power generation capacity is 526.7 MW at present.
