The Ministry of Human Resource Development hasconstituted a High Powered Committee to examine theentire system of conducting Class X and Class XIIexamination conducted by the CBSE with a view toprevent leakages.

Mr Vinay Sheel Oberoi, Retd. Secretary (HigherEducation), MHRD will be the Chairperson of the 7member High Power Committee.

Trial Run Of 1st India-BangladeshContainer Train Flagged Off

The trial run of the first container train between Indiaand Bangladesh was flagged off from Kolkata city. Thetrain left for Bangladesh with 60 containers loadedwith almost 1,200 tonnes of de-oiled cake, used as araw material for animal feed.

Currently, the trade between India and Bangladesh islargely road-based. It takes almost a month for anIndian truck to reach Bangladesh through thecongested Petrapole-Benapole border, with customsclearance alone taking nearly 25 days. The train is alsolikely to resolve the capacity constraints of sea andland routes.

Suresh Prabhu Launches Digital Initiative ForEase Of Export

Union Commerce and Industry and Civil Aviation Minister,Suresh Prabhu launched digital initiatives by ExportInspection Council (EIC) for ease of export at New Delhi.EIC is the official export certification body of Governmentof India and has launched this flagship project of DigitalIndia Initiative to keep pace with changing dynamics ofthe world.

In order to continue the vision for credible inspection andcertification, three portals have been developed to reducetransaction time and cost in a transparent manner. Theportals will play an important role in the Go Greeninitiative by reducing paper usage and saving millions oftrees.

The Union Minister of Human Resource Development,Mr Prakash Javadekar, released the NIRF (NationalInstitute of Ranking Framework) India Rankings 2018 invarious categories on the basis of performance ofHigher Educational Institutions in a programme held inNew Delhi.

The top 3 Overall Institutes in India are:

1. Indian Institute of Science (IISc Bengaluru),

2. Indian Institute of Technology Madras,

3. Indian Institute of Technology Bombay.

Minister of State Human Resource Development, Dr.Satya Pal Singh released the report on the NIRFRankings during the event. 69 top institutions in 9categories were given awards at the event. TheMinistry emphasised on the initiatives like GIAN, RUSA,SWAYAM, SWAYAM Prabha, TEQUIP III, Smart IndiaHackathon, that are in direction to further boost theQuality, Research and Innovation in education.

The top 3 Universities in India are-1. Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru,

2. Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi,3. Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi.

India-Japan-US Trilateral Talks Held In NewDelhi

The crucial dialogue between the three leadingdemocratic powers (viz. India, Japan and the USA) ofthe Indo-Pacific region was held in New Delhi. It comesa fortnight ahead of the summit between US PresidentDonald Trump and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abein Florida.

The India-Japan-US trilateral was launched inDecember 2011. It was elevated to ministerial level inSeptember 2015. The last ministerial dialogue was heldin New York in September 2017.

Jio Payments Bank Limited has commenced operationsas a payments bank. The Reserve Bank has issued alicence to the bank under Section 22 (1) of the BankingRegulation Act, 1949 to carry on the business ofpayments bank in India.

Jio Payments Bank is a joint venture between SBI andreliance industry.

Reliance Industries Limited, Mumbai was one of the 11applicants which were issued in-principle approval forsetting up a payments bank.
