- T recalls Ss how to make wh- questions by givingthem an example and ask them to find out the rule.
- T encourages Ss to give more examples. The grammar used with wh-questions dependson whether the topic being asked about is the
subject or predicate of the sentence. For the subject pattern:
Examples:
Someonetook my baseball. Who took mybaseball?
Fliesare bothering him What are bothering him?
Hebroke the vase Who broke the vase?
For the predicate pattern, wh- questionformation depends on whether there is anauxiliary verb in the original sentence.
There is an auxiliary verb:
Example:
He is doing his homework. What is he doing? The baby is crying because he is hungry Why is
the baby crying? They are walking while spleeping because they aresleepwalking Why are they walking?
There is no auxiliary and the verb be:
Example:
They areastronauts Whoare they?
Our language is What is yourlanguage? Those are my brothers sweaters Whose sweatersare those? The restaurant ison the thir d floorWhere is the
restaurant?
