A Step Towards Cleanliness

INTRODUCTIONClean Indian Mission (Swachh Bharat

Abhiyan) is a national level campaign by the Government of India to clean the

infrastructure of the country.

Launch of Clean India Mission

. This campaign was officially launched on 2 October 2014 at Rajghat, New Delhi, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself wielded broom

and cleaned a road.

Clean India, Beautiful India This campaign aims to accomplish the vision of

'Clean India' by 2 October 2019, 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and is expected to

cost over INR 62000 crore.

Objectives The program includes :- Elimination of open

defecation. Conversion of

insanitary toilets to pour flush toilets.

Eradication of manual scavenging.

Municipal Solid Waste Management

Bring about a behavioral change in people.

Generating awareness among citizens.

Strengthening of urban local bodies to fulfill these objectives .

Creating an enabling environment for private sector participation.
