JOURNAL OF THE ROYAL SOCIETY OF ARTS 1ST DECEMBER I950

DR. MANN JUVENILE L E С TÜRE S

Tickets are now available for the two Juvenile Lectufes, suitable for children of twelve years and over, which are given annually under the Dr. Mann Trust. As already announced, the following two lectures have been arranged:

Friday, 29TH December, AT 2.30 p.m. "Fireworks ' by Alan St. Hill Brock, A. R.I.B. A., Joint Managing Director, Messrs. С. T. Brock & Co.'s "Crystal Palace" Fireworks, Ltd.

WEDNESDAY, 3RD January, at 2.30 p.m. " Wild Animals in Captivity ,

by Sir Garrard Tyrwhitt- Drake, D.L., J. P. The first lecture will be illustrated by lantern slides and demonstrations,

and the second lecture by films and lantern slides. Refreshments will be served after the meetings.

As the demand for admission to these Juvenile Lectures is usually greater than the accommodation available, the number of tickets issued on these two occasions is strictly limited. Fellows desiring tickets must inform the Secretary how many are required for each lecture, the maximum allotment to each Fellow being tickets for one adult and two children per lecture. Applications should be addressed to the Secretary, and will be dealt with in the order in which they are received, the issue of tickets being discontinued as soon as all seats have been allocated.

APPOINTMENT OF ASSISTANT SECRETARY

The Council have appointed Mr. Robert V. C. Cleveland-Stevens to succeed Mr. G. P. Griggs as Assistant Secretary of the Society. Mr. Cleveland- Stevens was educated at Westminster School and Christ Church, Oxford, where he was a history scholar. He served as a captain in the Welsh Guards during the war, and was called to the Bar by Lincoln's Inn in July 1949.

Mr. Griggs, who has been appointed Secretary of the Museums Association, leaves the Society finally towards the end of January, but has been granted leave of absence during December. In the meantime, Mr. Cleveland-Stevens will be Acting Assistant Secretary.

APPOINTMENT OF LIBRARIAN

The Council have appointed Miss M. L. Clark, M.A., A.L.A., as Librarian of the Society. She succeeds Mr. K. D. C. Vernon, who, on joining the staff in March 1948, became the first full-time Librarian to be employed by the Society. Miss Clark graduated from the University of Melbourne and has been an assistant in the Library of the Royal Institute of International Affairs since 1948. Mr. K. D. C. Vernon has left to take up the post of Librarian at the Royal Institution.
