CHANGE .IH TIME OF MEETING . The Ordinary Meeting on Wednesday, November 28th, at which Mr. James Agate

is to deliver the Peter Le Neve Foster Lecture on "A Moment in the History of the English Theatre," is to be held at 5 p.m. instead of at 1.45 p.m. as previously announced. The Chair will be taken by Mr. C. B. Cochran. 1

Refreshments, which should be ordered at least the day before, will be obtainable from 4.15 to 4.45 p.m., at a charge of is. per head.

DR. MANN JUVENILE LECTURES Two lectures have been arranged under the Dr. Mann Trust, suitable for children of

twelve years old and over, and will take place on Wednesday, January 2nd, and Wednesday, January 9th, 1946, at 2.30 p.m. Refreshments will be provided after both meetings. On January 2nd the lecturer will be Dr. C. B. Williams, Head of the Department of Entomology, Rothamsted Experimental Station, who will give a talk, illustrated by lantern slides, on " The Migration of Butterflies." On January 9th, Commander H. P. Mead will speak on Flags, with special reference to national colours. This talk will be illustrated by means of the epidiascope.

Tickets will shortly be available and Fellows are entitled to apply for three for each lecture (admitting one adult and two children). A sufficient number of tickets to fill the room on both occasions will be issued in the order in which applications are received, and the issue will then be discontinued. Fellows desiring tickets are therefore advised to apply to the Acting Secretary as soon as possible, stating the number required and the date or dates on which admission is desired.

November 26 and December 3. - (Second and third of a series of three Lectures.) "Virus Diseases of Plants." By F. C. Bawden, m.a., Head of the Department of Plant Pathology, Rothamsted Experimental Station. (Illustrated by lantern slides.)

Lecture II. The Spread of Virus Diseases. - Methods of transmission ; vegetative propagation, grafting, seed, parasitic plants, mechanical inoculation, insects ; the insects that act as vectors and their relationships with the viruses they transmit ; factors affecting spread in the field.

Lecture III. The Nature of Viruses. - The purification of viruses and their isolation as crystalline and liquid crystalline nucleo- proteins ; physical properties ; the sizes and shapes of virus particles ; differences between viruses and organisms.
