We are very glad to present Annual Activity Report of Bhagini Nivedita Pratishthan for2008-09.

The institute is continuously working for the Welfare of Women and Children in the contexEducational, Social, Cultural Development and Health improvement for the last 30 yea1979. Our volunteers, Advisers, Workers and Staff, Well wishers are working as per ouiWork, work and work'. The Institute's Projects, and activities are being carried out untirincfull enthusiasm. The Accreditation Certificate by Credibility Alliance was given to the instTransparency and Good Governance on 14th December 2007. This certification is valid for 3

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETINGAnnual General Meeting of 2007-08 was conducted at Laxminarayan Nagar Office on 12th2008. In the meeting, Members Pratima Joshi and Lalita Maratha retired by rotation as per theyoffered themselves for re-election and were duly elected, DESulabha Deuskar resigned frorpost of President. Smt. Pratima Joshi was elected as President and Mrs. Rujuta Pitale was el(as Secretary. Pranoti Garge, Vandana Kelkar and Santa 13hat were also elected, Sister UBhalerao was Co-opted as a member. We are attaching herewith List of Management Commfor the year 2008-09.

HOMAGE PAIDOn 10th March 09 Dr. Kusumtai Ghanekar, Founder and President of Bhagini Nivedita PratishlSangli, passed away in Sangli due to old age. In her death the society has lost a very dedicworker who dedicated her whole life in the cause of woman and child welfare. She was a tsource of Inspiration to all the members of Bhagini Nivedita Pratishthan.. By profession she WEAyurved)c Physician and has, through research, developed a special tonic "Arnrutprashchildren's health on her name. Many children have benefitted by this in the workshop heNagpur organised by NCED Mumbai.

research. She was very well known for her Ayurvedic remedies. She has taken lots of of forts for thedevelopment of normal housewives in bringing out their hidden talents and especially indeveloping leadership qualities in them. Her absence will always be felt by us. May her soul rest inpeace.

During this year we also lost our consultant, well wisher and President of C-COM Shri. SharadMaratha and donor Smt. Ushatal Deuskar, Mumbai. The loss to our organization due to their deathcan never be overestimated.

COMPUTER TRAINING COURSEOur Institute runs Computer Training Programmes for Needy Women and Girls continuously since1992. These Courses are conducted at very affordable Fees and best education is given.Certificate courses like DTP, IT, Tally which comes under Elite are also conducted here. Mrs.Surekha Parande conducts these courses. There has always been a very good response for thesecourses. From the last few years Maharashtra Information Technology, Pune has given franchisefor running CCIT Course. Dr. Sulabha Deuskar provides the required guidance to the ComputerTeachers

HELPER NURSE TRAINING COURSEThis course is conducted twice in a year for the last 18 years. From this year the duration of thecourse has been increased to one year. This course is conducted at Pune Center. From this year thecourse will consist of 6 months training and 6 months internship in other hospitals. Those traineeswho have discontinued their education due to some reason and are needy also, benefit from thiscourse. They can earn their own living with the help of the skills acquired through this training. Thisyear, some girls were from tribal area and economically backward classes. We had provided themlodging and boarding in our hostel free of cost. At present 37th course is in progress. Ms. ManjiriSatpute coordinates this training programme.

Sister Bhalerao and Sister Shaikh shoulder the responsibility of practical training while Dr.Madhumati Kunte takes care of theory sessions.

The Institute runs a nursing Bureau which provides services of attendants to needy elderly peopleor patients. Patients and their families are given guidance and counseling is also done as part ofservice from the Bureau. This has been a great relief for them.

PARAMEDICAL COURSESThese courses are conducted since March 2007 (This year course was conducted at Dighi in July2008 and August 2008). Dr. Mrs. Prabha Gokhale inaugurated the course. During this pe riod alecture with demonstration was also arranged on "Disaster Management for the course studentsand for people at Dighi. What precautions should be taken and how to save life and property insuch natural calamities was explained by Shri. Shailendra Walk, from °Yashada l. Youngsters werepresent in a very large number on this occasion. In the same course, Ms. Vandana Dharmadhikariexplained various banking procedures. What is Debit and credit card was explained by a retiredofficer from Bank of India. About 12 women from Dighi and surrounding participated in this courseand 6 of them got jobs as Hospital Receptionist. The Course Certificates were distributed at theharms of Dr. Shalini Patwardhan, Ex-Director, Wool Research Association.

10TH PRAGATI BATCHOur institute is running Counselling center and Pragati Warg for 10th failed girls. Even free ourresidential facility is provided at our Dighi hostel. There were 4 girls at Dighi and 2 at Pune.Kishoritai Belsare, Vithabai More and Chitra Borole have contributed a lot in getting the studies andhome work done.

After the SSC exams, courses for self earning like Artificial Jewellery and Perfume rFundamentals of Computer etc were conducted for them.

ABHYASIKA AND SCIENCE CENTER

From 1999 Abhyasika is run at Dighi and Pune for standard 1st to 7th. 40 to 50 students at Dii15 to 20 students at Pune are availing this facility regularly The required Text books anstudy materials are provided. At Dighi, Jayashri Vhatkar, Mohini Kamble, Ashwini Helambe,Samlu, Komar Mhaidarkar and Ragini Tulase conduct and co-ordinate the Abhyasika, wherPune, Chitra Borole does the same job. In Summer and Diwali vacations various camorganized for children. In this, science quiz, entertaining science experiments, yogas, SIand small picnics are organized. This helps in the personality development of children.Karkhanis and Kishori Belsare coordinate these events. This year, Hemlata Vadapurkar amThatte, Vasundhara Kelkar and Lalita Maratha helped in conducting Camps. Leelatai SFounder member and ex- president trainsAbhyasika Teachers every 3 months.

The Science Center at Dighi is well equipped and fully functional now. Here children froschools from the nearby area come and do experiments. Even teachers from their srparticipate in this activity.

On Science Day, childern and teacher Ragini Tulase had exhibited some experiments uncguidance of Dr. Sulabha Deuskar and lIshoritai Belsare. Sumeet Waghmare, student from 6had prepared a Battery operated Wind-mill as well. They had also created charts shInformation of Scientists. Dr. Shalini Patwardhan and Dr. Sulabha Deuskar managed ractivities of this Science center.

This year. Komal Shastri, a student from Symbiosis Institute of Media and Communicparticipated in various events in our Institute, as a part of 6 weeks training program undieducational course.

EDUCATIONAL TOURSEvery year various study tours are organized for Students at various courses, as well as forand the volunteers of the Institute.

Pupils at Laxminarayan Nagar Abhyasika visited GerExhibition at Fergusson College. Various Fossils from stone age were displayed over there. It nwonderful and exciting experience of observing new things

Science center had organized a study visit to Energy Park at Peshvebaug. Different forrenergy sources like Solar energy, Wind energy, Water energy were there on view. They also trride in 'Fulrani' , a small rail which operates on Solar energy Then they had their Tif fin in Sarasiand after that they visited Science Exhibition at Kothrud. In the exhibition, the students were ginformation about their own projects. This encouraged our students and their teachers alsistudents and 8 teachers participated in this event.

4 workers from the hostel participated in a camp on "Capacity building for Food Hamorganized by SNOT. In this camp guidance was given on what kind of precaution needs to betto retain the Nutritional value of food while cooking and also during preservation. Mohini Kaireceived special grade during this camp.

A study tour was organized in 'Embo' company of Nishigandh Kulkami at Bhugaon, Dist. PunMachine Embroidery students. They were given demonstration of different machines workin1, 6, 12, 18 needles at a time. The teachers of Embroidery class visited 'Krishi Udyog-08' exhitat Mulshi, Dist. Pune. where they saw different products made from Wool.

In this camp guidance was given on what kind of precaution needs to be takento retain the Nutritional value of food while cooking and also during preservation. Mohini Kamblereceived special grade during this camp.

A study tour was organized in 'Embo' company of Nishigandh Kulkami at Bhugaon, Dist. Pune forMachine Embroidery students. They were given demonstration of different machines working on1, 6, 12, 18 needles at a time. The teachers of Embroidery class visited 'Krishi lkiyog-08' exhibitionat Mulshi, Dist. Pune. where they saw different products made from Wool.

Our Management Committee members, staff and Dighi Hostel residents visited N.D.A. NDAprovides training in all three branches of our Armed Forces, viz Air force, Navy and Army tocandidates who are future Officers. Information was given by Mr. Kadam from Air Force Wing. Theycould see Paramveera chakra, Ashokchakra, Suryachakra and Kirtichakra specimens also. Theyhad also seen Different types of Aircraf ts. Because of this visit they could understand what isNational Defense Academy. This visit was organized by our 'Treasurer Mrs. Ushatai Sathe.

VISIT TO ANANDA VANA

Members of the Institute had a study tour to Anandvan, Somnath, Hemalkasa, Sevagram andPavnar during 1st to 7th February 2009. There they could meet Sadhanatai Arnie and Bharat Amte.At Hemalkasa Dr. Prakash and Dr. Mandakini Amte gave information on various projects andactivities. It was decided that some collaborative activity will be done for Economically Backwardclass school girls. They also visited Vinobars Ashram at Pavnar. In this tour, they visited Matrusevasangh at Vardha. Ms. Lilatai Shintre and Dr. Sulabha Deuskar guided them about startingParamedical courses.

HEALTH RELATED ACTIVITIES

At Vasukaka Joshi Wada, Sadashiv Path a Free Homeopathic Dispensary is run by the Instituteunder the guidance of Dr. Anand Patwardhan and Mrs. Latika Datar for the last 13 years. Thedispensary is run for 3 days (Tuesday, Friday and Saturday) per week from 4.00 p.m. to 6.00 p.m.Due to the rush and overwhelming demand, the time is extended by 2 hours.

The Institute runs a Barakshar Clinic, free of cost, at Dighi for Women. Mrs. Vandana Kelkarexamines patients and gives medicines. A Gynecologist visits the center once a month andexamines the patients and gives gynac consultation.

A young boy of 10 years, Prashant Bavkar was recommended a Kidney Transplant by Doctors atDighi. But Due to the appropriate treatment by Dr. Kulkarni, from Pune now he is completely curedand the transplant is no longer needed as confirmed by the doctors. All the required efforts to savehis kidneys were taken by Vandana Kelkar who runs the clinic.

MACHINE EMBROIDERY TRAINING

In last years report it was mentioned that a project on Computerised Embroidery was beingdeveloped. That was started at Dighi and Pune from 1st September 2008. Patchwork andEmbroidery course of 4 months duration was started at Dighi. Computerised Machine Embroiderytraining was initially given to lady teachers. Prachi Joshi, Rekha Kulkami, Pritam Rajopadhye andJayashri Vatkar did the teaching. 40 students could take the advantage at Dighi and Pune. At Dighi,especially Ex-servicemen's family members were given preference. This project was developedand organized by Dr. Shalini Patwardhan. This course could get finance from 'Horizon' due to theefforts by Vandana Kelkar, Ushatal Sathe and Sulabha Deuskar.

HOSTEL AT DIGH I

At our Dighi Hostel, girl students from Gail( wad D. Ed. College are staying. Some girls who are fromTribal Area of Raigad are also staying at Hostel and have completed 1 year Nursing course, Themanagement of Hostel is looked after by Vithabai More.

Keeping in mind about Healthy and nutritional diet, the meals are prepared at hostel accordingly. Atsome festivals and occasions festive treats are also given.

CULTURAL AND OTHER ACTIVITIES

15th August and 26th January were celebrated by organising 'Prabhat Pheri' (morning march) andflag hoisting. Some snacks are given to the children. On 15th August Col. Premnarayan and on26th January Bhausaheb Dolas hoisted the flag.

Women's Day, Science Day and Environmental Day were also celebrated by aappropriate activities. Jayashree Vhatkar took initiative in presenting a small play on toissue of female Embryo killing on the occasion of Woman's day. Retired Principal Sunita KKulkarni was the Chief Guest.

For some years now, 'Rasamayi Vachan Mandal' is run in our institute. It has 15-29 nThe members meet at Smt. Leelatai Shintre's residence on 1st Wednesday ever!Every member buys some books and Diwali magazines. These books and maga;rotated amongst all the members. After every two months there Is a debate. Speakoutside are invited twice a year to deliver speech on different topics. This yearRanade, Mugdha Deshpande and others talked about Happy married lives of Sockcouples'.

The organization is awarding 'Saraswati Samajseva Puraskars and 'Sharda Sahitya Purathe last few years. This year Sharada Sahitya Puraskar has been declared to a book,control° by Shekhar Dhavalikar.

For the 'Saraswati Samajseva Puraskar Mina Kurlekar from Vanchit Vikas has beenJayashri Pendse, Archana Kale and Rukhmini Shitole have been selected for the CommCertificates for their contribution to work done for the society. This activity was coordiPratima Joshi, Sharada Shintre, Smita Sahastrabuddhe and Santa Bhat.

On 2nd October 2008 one workshop for efficient administration was organised for the meithis workshop there was a speech by Anuradha Karkare on concept of 'Professional Socphilosophy, principles and vision. Leelatai Shintre enlightened the par ticipantswith her exof social work for training housewires of lower socio-economic group and specially, relattservicemen.

Dr. Sulabha Deuskar and Nilima Karkhanis had organised this workshop. Different corwere also constituted for routine work and various activities.

On 14th February 2009 a Programme, 'Swar-Prajakt by Hrishikesh Ranade was organizeBuilding funds. Vandana Kelkar took the lead in organization of this Programme. On thisDr. Shalini Patwardhan had created a Power point presentation fn Marathi to give infregarding various activities of the Institute. There were some samples of Handkerchief.mats, Mobile covers created by Embroidery students and Perfumes made by the Institutsale. There was overwhelming response to the programme.

DONATIONSDonation from Vimal Chintamani Paranjape Trust is utilised for Science Lab activity for !standard students at Dighi and Pune's Municipal corporation Schools.

We are continuously receiving donation from GIVE India Foundation. On Line Donareceived in the form setting up Abhyasika for Needy Poor girl students, Computer treyouth, Paramedical training to Needy girls and women etc. Feedback and utilisation rthese donations is regularly sent by Nilima Karkhanis and Amruta Kulkami.

We are getting financial help for needy women's Helper Nurse training from Rotary clubWest for the last 15 years. We thankfully acknowledge their continued support There wrgirls from Tribal area and economically backward class for the 36th course. ProfFoundation, Anandvardhini Trust, Shri. Dr. Dev from Shell Mendhi Farm Pune and Mr. Arun Kale, Ghongadi Utpadak from Pandharpur, whenvisited our Pune centre, were surprised to see the samples made by Machine Embroidery Coursestudents and their perfection and expertise gained in such a small time.

Dr. Mrs. Vinita Ketkar, Mrs. Pandit and Mrs. Padhye were very happy to see various activities of theInstitute.

Thus various activities are going on under the guidance of President Mrs. Pratima Joshi and with thehelp of Secretary Rujuta Pitale, Members of Management Committee and other members under theguidance of Vice President Vaijayanti Joshi, Chitra Borole does the administration, and under theguidance of Ex-President Dr. Sulabha Deuskar, and with consultation of Auditor Sanjeev Gokhale,Amruta Kulkami looks after accounts All the administration at Dighi center is handled by JayashriVhatkar. Hostel responsibilities are looked after by Rector, Vithabai More. All the programmes atDighi are organized by Vandana Kelkar and Ushatai Sathe. Mrs. Lalita Maratha and Mrs. Rujuta Pitalehandle all the financial administration.

This is the 31st year of the Institute. We can proudly say that various News papers have noticed thesocial work done in lastthree decades. Since, last 30 years the scope of the activities handled by theInstitute is growing continuously. Institute's Hostel and old age home is already functional at Dighi.There is a need to expand various activities by keeping in mind new age challenges and needs.Training center for Women and youth and proposed Technical Institute will require new Building. It isplanned to have new building in the old campus of Dighi's Institute The present premises at Pune isinadequate for our growing needs of activities and for administration.

The proposed expansion of the Institute will require your active support and we are earnestlyrequesting you for getting a sufficient space In Pune City.

The institute is running different activities in various fields for needy women and girls. Experts fromdifferent fields always help the Institute. The institute is obliged for that and it is hoped that the same
