WHAT IS A COMPUTER?
A computer is an electronic device that
accepts data as input, processes the data
into information, stores and retrieve the
process data as output.

COMPONENTS OF COMPUTER SYSTEM
HARDWARE
This is the term used for the parts of the
computer that you can se and touch. It is the
collective name given to all the devices that
makeup a computer system. Hardware is
consist of peripheral, input, storage and
processing devices.

USERS
Anyone who operates a computer to
carryout tasks. Users maybe a computer
professional or end users such as employeeswho build and maintain the computer system.

SOFTWARE
These are programs that have organized sets
of instructions to make the computer work.
These cannot be touched nor seen, only the
package.

DATA
These are raw facts such as numbers, letters,
special characters or symbols. These convey
little meaning individually. data is organized in
files with the computer. Data is organized in
files with the computer. Data is stored in the
form of coded electrical impulse called bits.
Eight of these bits make a byte which isrepresented by a character such as a letter.

These are instructions that tells a user
how to operate and use the information
system.

FUNCTIONS OF HARDWARE DEVICES
CENTRAL PROCESSING UNIT
Arithmetic and Logic Unit – performs
all the calculation necessary for thecomputer to operate.
Control Unit- directs the flow of data
through the CPU and other devices.

. INPUT DEVICES
Input devices are devices that allows data
to be transmitted into the computer .
OUTPUT DEVICES
Output devices are devices that allow
processed information to be sent out of the
computer system either on soft or hardcopy .

. STORAGE DEVICES
Storage devices are used to store informationeven after the computer is turned off. These
include hard disk drive, floppy disk drive, etc.
these are usually located within the system of the computer. Contrarily, some of these
storage devices are found outside the system of
the computer such as, flash drive, mp3 player,
compact disk, etc.
