• Principle of operation of metaldetector:-
The operation of a metal detector is based onthe principle of electromagnetic induction.
Metal detectors contain one or more inductorcoils. hen metal is placed in a close pro!imityto a varying magnetic "eld #generated by thecoil or coils$% currents are induced in the metallicpart .

These current are called eddy Currents. Theeddy Currents% in turn% induce their own
magnetic "eld # called eddy "elds$ .
These "elds act in such a direction as to oppose
that generated by the coils. The resultant "eld# & applied ' & eddy $ and usinga specially designed electronic circuit canindicate the type of material being magneti(ed.

clocking
The master clock generator is a 555 timer #*C5$.
The 555 oscillator has two controls.4+ varies thefreuency of the main pulse% and 40 varies the
pulse width .
The freuency of the main pulse determine howmany times per second the coil is pulsed.

6enerally% ahigher pulse freuency allows for afaster coil motion and perhaps a little betternoise performance%while consuming more power.
1arying the main pulse width determines howlong the coil is turned on%which can a7ect depthof detection

* The advantages of detectors:-
8mit an electromagnetic signal of higherintensity and thus % these signals penetrate fardeeper into the ground than continuously
emitted signals. Cover large areas in less time.
9earch coil or loop of a pulse induction metaldetector is simpler than 12 instrument.
A single coil of wire is commonly used for boththe transmit and receive functions% while in 12two coils are needed transmit coil and receive

the coil:-
we use a mono coil *mportant coil parameter are coil diameter%
number of windings% wire gauge.
The standard coil for this design has diameter of) inches and +; turns.
The diameter a7ect the depth and sensitivity%and the number of winding a7ect the magnetic
"eld.

)- Can be used in archaeological digging
+- As a compact hand metal detector for security
