Hoarseness and Horner’s syndrome followinginterscalene block: case report

A 39-year-old woman with carpal tunnel syndrome wasscheduled for right carpal tunnel release under interscaleneblock of the brachial plexus. She received an injection of 15mLof 2% lidocaine and 15mL 0.5% bupivacaine in increments.Twenty minutes after block placement, surgical anaesthesiadeveloped. Within 15 and 25 minutes of performing the block,she developed Horner’s syndrome and progressivehoarseness. Three hours later, in the recovery room, herhoarseness and Horner’s syndrome had abated and she didnot develop any further complications.Coskun D, et al.
