FACTSHEET
1. SCHEME: NREGA provides a legal guarantee of at least100 days of wages employment very year to every ruralhousehold whose adult member volunteer to do unskilledmanual work.
2. WAGE RATE: From January this year the wages under thescheme are linked to consumer price index for rural labor.Goes up to as high as Rs 170 a day in some state
3. COVERAGE: The scheme began in Feb. 2006 in 200 districts. It was extended to 130 more districts in April & wentnationwide in 2008.

BUDGET ON MGNREGA
1. The Mahatma Gandhi national rural employment
guarantee scheme , the United progressive Alliance
government flagship program , has so for spent just
56% of its budget allocation 40,000crore (RS 400
billion).
2. Rs 20,857 crore (Rs 208.54 billion) had been spent
on scheme until December 2010.
3. Rs 64000 crore (Rs 640 billion) has been sought for
the coming financial year.5
