Grand mal convulsions: case reportA 24-year-old man, who was undergoing surgical

management for a deep wound, received 30mL ofropivacaine 0.75%, injected over 1 minute in 3–4mLincrements, into his psoas muscle to anaesthetise thelumbal plexus. Thirty-nine seconds later, he developed agrand mal convulsion and became apnoeic with extremesalivation and lost consciousness. He underwent lungventilation and received midazolam and pentothal. Hisseizures stopped after 20 seconds and spontaneousrespiration returned. His operation was continued and herecovered with no further complications. The next day, aneurological examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
