In view of the developing pedagogical styles, this UTAS precinct aspires to stand as a progressive example of a development that has undergone the metamorphosis of integrating Arts with the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math disciplines [STE(A)M].

The STE(A)M development facilitates this integration through architecture. The effective use of spatial planning facilitates the mingling of people from different disciplines within the same place. Drawing from the analysis of the IMAS facility in Hobart which practices the new pedagogical styles, the STE(A)M development incorporates the use of ‘research café’ and ‘research clusters’ which are a proven practical means of facilitating interaction across disciplines.

Albert Hall is one of Launceston’s most significant heritage buildings due to its high degree of heritage value that is attributed to the Classical Victorian style of monumental public architecture. A reinvigoration of Albert Hall has been proposed to reflect its status as the heart of the city.

The threshold is designed to seamlessly unify the interior and exterior of the building, by bringing a part of the topography of the City Park into the interior space to merge with and reflect the external environment.

Before entering into the prestigious building, the space facilitates the connection of the heart, mind and soul with the programme of the structure. The sudden exposure to the external environment within the interior space, creates a sense of identity, a form of reminder about shelter, and creates the experience of being in a different building.

A new public library was proposed in relation to culturalcontext and physical (site) context of the Townsville.The urban connections to the waterfront, CBD andgeographical terrain is tied by providing accessibilityacross the building.

The entrance is a welcoming community place for all ages and all social groups, functioning as an informal space. It provides facilities that embody the values of equity of access to information and resources that are essential to building communities.

Passive design was used to produce a sustainable design. This is to conserve energy in response to client and user needs. 30 percent of the building is naturally ventilated on all floors, attained via utilising cross ventilation from the North-East.

Brady’s Lookout has an illustrious history as a vantage point utilised by the infamous bush ranger, Matthew Brady to spy upon potential victims. However in this century the lookout is utilised to ‘spy’ upon the superb panoramic views of the Tamar Valley.

The building is designed to create a minimal impact on the grounds natural geological formation. Deconstructivism is adapted to replicate site context in a built form. The design also incorporates a sustainable approach, using the winter sun for heating while providing shading from the summer sun.

Tourists and locals alike can indulge in excellent cuisine while gazing upon the breathtaking views and appreciating fine wines amidst a soothing ambiance at the nearby Wine tasting centre/ Restaurant.

A house connected via a glass bridge was designed to reside within a warehouse near the Launceston CBD. The chosen design incorporated the needs of a golden age artisan couple, to prepare and exhibit their work.

The design involved thorough research on the effects of the external environment, which might disrupt the living conditions of the inhabitants. Passive design rules were adopted to increase the livability conditions for the couple during both summer and winter.

A series of branding design projects were undertaken for start-up businesses located in Brisbane. The businesses involved an accessories, catering and financial based company respectively.

The design process involved several consultation sessions with the respective clients in order to gain a thorough understanding of each client’s business mission and vision to successfully incorporate the businesses objectives into its branding.

The design development stage provided an insight into successfully incorporating the clients’ vision and accommodating the various changes and suggestions of the clients. This experience enabled familiarisation with client management and design execution.
