This project brings the new pedagogy of flexible learning spaces to the school, along with new facilities like the Science Laboratories, Technology Applied Science Workshop Areas as well as General Learning Areas.

The concept of the building takes after a shopping centre, where there is a central walkway with “shops” on the sides. Each of these “shops” have their own style of interior design and the central walkway is glorified by the timber portal columns and colourful glass facade, mimicking a stained glass chapel window.

DOCUMENTATION AND DETAILINGI was involved through all phases of the project, from concept design through to construction. The building components are mostly modelled in 3D with only the 1:10 details are drafted in 2D.

I was involved in thinking through the construction details of the the building, co-ordinating with the structural engineers, sketching the details by hand before drafting it digitally.

6

RENDERINGSThe College requested some renderings and flythrough of the building to be done for marketing purposes, the images were a success among prospective parents and students in the Open Day.

CONTRACT ADMINISTRATIONAs we modelled our project thoroughly, we were able to easily co-ordinate with the builders, sub-contractors and consultants easily throughout the construction phase.

The use of BimX model were proven very helpful on site inspections as we were able to walk through the digital model on site with our iPad and discuss solutions with the builder on the spot.

A few months into the construction, I was the main contact for the project, resolving RFIs and variations with the guidance of a registered Architect. I was also involved in examining all shop drawings for the project.

This is a three storeys building built in two stages, in order to keep the College operational during construction. It is the first two stages of a masterplan consisting of seven stages.

The first stage is a performing arts centre consisting of a basement carpark, a theatre, music and drama classrooms. It also includes landscaping which connects the building with the rest of the school. The second stage consists of Science Laboratories and general classrooms on top of the carpark.

12

DOCUMENTATIONI was involved in the documentation of both Stage 1 and 2, with a little bit of Contract Administration for Stage 1. There were a lot of curves in this project, which made it difficult to document for the builder. However, I made them to be logical enough that the curves were made of a certain radii of circles.

This project involves a new construction of a multipurpose hall, a theatre refurbishment and an extension to the Science Building.

My involvement in this project is to detail the innovative Raico window system to create a thermally effective building. I was also responsible in fully documenting the Science building extension, which includes consultant co-ordination and managing junior team members.

THE GLEBE CONCOURSEGRADUATION STUDIO, 2014UNIVERSITY OF SYDNEYAs a whole studio of 14 people, we looked at the under-developed site of Glebe Island, analysed the condition of its context and adapt its program to respond these conditions.

We then came up with an urban masterplan for Glebe Island and each of us were given an area to develop and co-ordinate with the surroundings.

The brief for my area started out as a car park building to cater for the rest of the Glebe Island residents. The location of the project made it possible for it to evolve to a local retail centre, serving the high pedestrianised street fronting a square and throroughfare between the site and public transport.

It is also an important pedestrian link between the Glebe island site and Sydney’s Centre. Combining function and form, the building is divided by the central stairs which is also a line of view from the Anzac Bridge and the White Bay Power Station’s chimney stack.

24

DESIGN STRATEGY: ORIENTATION

ORIENTATION

The apartment buildings are divided by the line of view between the White Bay Power Station and Anzac Bridge. They are then again divided to maximize the exposure of the northern sunlight to the apartments. As a result, four apartment towers rose up from the building, giving the roof of the car park a space for common open spaces for the residents.

The apartments are a combination of single and split levels, designed to minimize the number of south fac-ing apartments. All of the non-south facing apartments are designed to receive at least three hours of direct sunlight.

Each apartment building has got their own core, with entry to the apartments no more than six me-tres away from the re stairs, in accordance with the National Construction Code. These cores pro-vide access to the apartments from both entry points of the roof garden level and the ground oor retail level.

FOURTH YEAR PROJECT, 2013UNIVERSITY OF SYDNEYThe project takes place in Taronga Zoo, Sydney, which provides a unique experience where visitors are not only looking at animals but also at the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Opera House as a back-drop. As people walk along the paths among the animal enclosures, they get glimpses of this wonderful view and it is usually maximised in the picnic locations around the park.

Being located at such a unique location, Taronga Zoo holds a lot of functions such as weddings, new year’s eve and concerts. The project looks at the venue aspect of the zoo more than its enclosures.

As it is a Digital Studio Project, we used Rhino and Grasshopper softwares to replicate our concept of folding-paper. We then developed that concept into various scales, combining them as one building.

MOTORCYCLE CLUBFIRST YEAR PROJECT, 2007UNIVERSITY OF SYDNEYThe form of the building was derived from the concept of a constant solid and rotated voids.

A three-storey building, with each storey intended for different functions and an exhibition space in the central feature of the building. The roof mimics the spokes of a motorcycle’s wheel, providing support and aesthetic shadows towards the interior space.
