Noun (Ism) Quantity

Each Noun in Arabic is of Specific Quantity, meaning its either

Singular :When its ONE only

Dual :When its exactly TWO

Plural:When its THREE or MORE

It is formed by Adding following suffixes to the original noun Alif and Noon انYa and Noon  ين

اح=ر س? ر? اح= =انس? Two magicians

ال<ب?ح<ر ي ر? =<نال<ب?ح< Two seas

Sound Plurals:

The singular word is suffixed by a plural sign Singular word remains intact Like in English boy Boys -- book books Plural signs are

1. Waw & Noon ون 2. Yaa & Noon  ين

3. Alif & taa ات changes to ة

Note ة / are used for Feminine Nouns ات

Lق اس= ون?ال<ف? ق اس= ال<ف? The one who cross limits

ر= ين?ال<ك?اف= = ر? ال<ك?اف= The disbeliever

ل=م= ?ينال<مLس< ل=م= ال<مLس< The One who submits

Lق ن?اف= Lوال<م?ن Lن?اف=ق Lال<م The hypocrite

Lونالصاب=ر? الصاب=ر The One who is patient

Lاتالطيaب? ةالطيب The one pure

ن? م= ؤ< Lاتال<م= ةالمؤمنThe one who believe (woman)

Lاتال<مLط?لق?   ةال<مLط?لق? The divorced woman

Lاتالصال=ح?   ةالصال=ح? The righteous woman

You have to Learn them

Broken Plurals : The singular word doesn’t remain intact

anymore There are no fix changes Like in English: man men … child children

Broken Plural Singular Meaning

س= Lن<ف? األ< ال?<ن<فLس= The soul / Oneself

و?ال= ?م< األ< ال<مال= The wealth

  LمLور= األ<   Lمر= األ< The matter

م< Lه ار? ?ب<ص? أ ر? بص? Sight

Lار ?ن<ه? األ< Lر الن<ه? The river

What you need to do is….. Know the singulars of nouns that will come

in your lessonsHow? If you see suffixes for Sound Plural Just remove them to form Singular example : ?ون Lق اس= اس=ق ال<ف? ال<ف?

If it’s a broken Plural Learn its singular

For Sound plurals 1. Just remove the suffix in case of

ين & ون2. In case of ات replace it with a ة

For Broken plurals -- > learn them

Feminine Sound Plural : Suffix ات is written both ways

Whether its with proper Alif or small Alif (Alif suqra) , to make a singular replace it with a ة

ن^ اتpج? نة ?ج?نـ تpج? ?نة ج?
