INTRODUCTIONIndian Farmers Fertilizer Co-Operative Limited (IFFCO) was established on 3rd November 1967.IFFCO is the world's largest fertilizer cooperative federation based in India which is registered as a Multistate Cooperative Society.IFFCO has been ranked 37 in top companies in India in 2011 by Fortune India 500 list.

UREAIFFCO's Urea is a source of 46% of nutrient nitrogen for crops. It is the most important nitrogenous fertiliser in the country. It is also used as a cattle feed supplement to replace a part of protein requirements. It has numerous industrial uses notably for production of plastics.

IFFCO AONLA UNIT

Page 14: AJEET GUPTA

It is located at Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh. This plant is constructed into two sub-units ; The Aonla-1 plant started its commercial

urea production on 16th July 1988. Aonla-2 started commercial production on

25th December 1996.

IFFCO Aonla operates two Ammonia plants, each with a production capacity of 1740 MTPD.

It operates four Urea plants, each with a production capacity of 1515 MTPD.

The major input for production is Natural Gas i.e. 3.3 Million Cubic Meter/day.

In layman’s language temperature is defined as “the degree of hotness or coldness of a body or an environment measured on a definite scale.

Glass Thermometer Thermocouples Thermister Resistance Temperature Detector(RTD) Pyrometers Infrared

TEMPERATURE MEASURING

INSTRUMENTS

Page 21: AJEET GUPTA

GLASS THERMOMETER Glass thermometers cover a wide temperature range from -37 °C (-34.6 ºF) to 356 °C (672.8 ºF).

Page 22: AJEET GUPTA

WORKING It consists of a bulb containing mercury

attached to a glass tube of narrow diameter. Temperature increases cause the mercury to

expand, so the temperature can be determined by measuring the volume of the mercury.

Page 23: AJEET GUPTA

BIMETALLIC THERMOMETER

It is a temperature sensor that can control the temperature. The principle behind this thermometer relies on the fact that different metals expand at different rates as they warm up.

Page 24: AJEET GUPTA

WORKING In this diagram , as the temperature rises the blue

metal expands faster than the green metal. This causes the strip to bend upward, making contact so that current can flow.

By adjusting the size of the gap between the strip and the contact , you control the temperature.

Page 25: AJEET GUPTA

THERMOCOUPLE Thermocouples are a widely used type of

temperature sensor for measurement and control, and can also convert a temperature gradient into electricity.

Thermocouples are self powered and require no external form of excitation.

Page 26: AJEET GUPTA

The phenomena behind this is known as “Thermoelectric effect or Seebeck effect.”

In 1821, the German–Estonian physicist Thomas Johann Seebeck discovered that when any conductor is subjected to a thermal gradient, it will generate a voltage. This is now known as the thermoelectric effect or Seebeck effect.

Resistance thermometer A Resistance Thermometer or Resistance

Temperature Detector is a device which used to determine the temperature by measuring the resistance of pure electrical wire.

If we want to measure temperature with high accuracy, RTD is the only one solution in industries.

The RTD element is made from a pure material, typically platinum, nickel or copper.

Page 28: AJEET GUPTA

Platinum is the most commonly used metal for RTD elements.

They are often called Platinum Resistance Thermometers (PRTs).

Page 29: AJEET GUPTA

WORKING RTDs work on a basic correlation between

metal’s resistance and temperature. As the temperature of a metal increases, the metal's resistance to the flow of electricity increases.

The significant characteristic of metals used as resistive elements is the linear approximation of the resistance versus temperature relationship between 0 and 100 °C. This temperature coefficient of resistance is called alpha, α.

CONCLUSION Doing training from IFFCO was a

good experience for me which enhanced my knowledge. Here, I got the opportunity to know about some Electronic Instruments.
