What is 3D printing?

3D printing or additive manufacturing is a process of making three dimensional solid objects from a digital file.

Different Types of 3d Printer

3d Organ Printer

How does 3D printing work?

It all starts with making a virtual design of the object you want to create. This virtual design is for instance a CAD (Computer Aided Design) file. This CAD file is created using a 3D modeling application or with a 3D scanner.

Art/Education

Medical Uses3D printing has been used to print specific implant and device for medical use.

Successful operations include:a titanium pelvis implanted into a British patient, titanium lower jaw transplanted to a Belgian patient, and a plastic tracheal splint for an American infant .

Medical Uses3D printing technology can now be used to make exact replicas of organs.

Prosthetics

Silicone ears and noses might cost $4,000 each, constructed by taking an impression of the injured area, sculpting the body part out of wax as it should appear, and then casting that shape in silicone.

Bones

Researchers at Washington State University have been able to print off replacement bones for patients needing orthopedic or dental procedures.

AerospaceNASA and the ESA, along with numerous aircraft manufacturers are turning to 3D printing in order to reduce the overall weight of their aircraft.

Also Boeing and Airbus are using 3D printing to reduce the weight of their aircraft, allowing them to cut fuel costs for each flight.

Prototypes

Manufacturing facilities across the globe are using 3D printing as a way to reduce costs, save time, and produce better products.
