Intracerebral haemorrhage: case reportA 50-year-old woman developed an intracerebral
haemorrhage following spinal-epidural anaesthesia forhaemorrhoidectomy.
The woman received bupivacaine 10mg intrathecally foranaesthesia, and a continuous ropivacaine infusion [dosageand duration of treatment not stated] via an epidural catheterfor postoperative analgesia. She also received SC enoxaparinsodium on postoperative day 1. On postoperative day 2, shewas discovered unconscious and biting her tongue. A brain CTscan showed a recent frontal haematoma with subarachnoidhaemorrhage. She recovered normal function 12 hours later.[Treatment given not stated.]
Author comment: It is questionable whether thecombined spinal anaesthesia is the direct and unequivocalcause of the intracerebral haemorrhage.Albaladejo P, et al.
