Medical Technology Intern
CIM-CMSS MARCH 2013
24-Hour Food RecallIDEAL BODY WEIGHT (IBW) = (Height in cm – 100) – 10%
= (168 – 100) – 10%
= 68 – 16.8
= 51.2 Kg
BASAL METABOLIC RATE (BMR) = 1 cal x 24 hrs x IBW
= 1 cal x 24 hrs x 51.2 Kg
= 1 228 calories/ day
PHYSICAL ACTIVITY (PA) = Moderate Activity (75% of BMR)
= 0.75 X 1 228 calories/ day
= 921 calories/ day
SPECIFIC DYNAMIC ACTION (SDA) = 10% x (BMR + PA)
= 10% x (1 228 cal/ day + 921 cal/ day)
= 0.10 x 2 149 cal/ day
= 214.9 cal/ day
TOTAL ENERGY REQUIREMENT (TER) = BMR + PA + SDA
= 1 228 cal/ day + 921 cal/ day + 214.9 cal/ day
= 2 363.9 calories/ day

Record of Rotation
24-Hour Duty
24-hour duty in CIM-CMMS is basically being on call to do laboratory work rather than being
awake for a full 24 hours. A workload of 3 CBCs is already a heavy one because everything is done
manually. The upside to this is that we got to put to action what we learned in third year and even
“sign out” the results. Thankfully, we never really needed to be woken up in the middle of night.
Mess Duty
The mess experience is quite the event in Paknaan. Normally, only the mess duty people help
out with the mess but because there are so many plates, bowls, cooking apparatuses to clean, it’s
basically mess for everyone everyday. I enjoyed it since it was a good way to pass time and get to
know everyone a little more. The food the medical interns cooked was fantastic, I wouldn’t mind
washing the dishes after. There was always a lot of food left over.
Field Duty
Because of the finals period, we had to go to school everyday to take exams, we weren’t able to
experience field duty first hand. There’s always a next time!

Rotation Evaluation
Resident on Duty : Dr. Labisig
Dr. Labisig is outgoing and fun to be with. I recall having karaoke one of the nights and he joined
in the fun as well as during the Bonfire Acquaintance. He loves his fun and food but when he’s called
on to do his duties, he does it very professionally.
PGIs on Duty
Our PGIs were very friendly and accommodating and didn’t make us feel intimidated. We
learned a lot from them and made our Paknaan stay very memorable.
MT on Duty : Arleen del Fierro, RMT
Ma’am Arleen is very well versed with her job. We hardly ever saw her while we were there, but
when she was there, we learned a lot from her and is very jolly.
Fellow MT Interns
We call our group the High Pitch group primarily because we laugh a lot and joke about on a lot
of things. We loved watching scary movies in the cabin and taking rides together to school when we
took exams. Our group is truly amazing in every way and full of diverse personalities.
Medical Interns
Our medical interns were amazing. They were very friendly from the start and invited us to
whatever they would do. They made our stay memorable and mess time was always fun with them.
CIM-CMSS
CIM-CMSS (“Paknaan” as is fondly called) is on large grounds, with cabins, a mess hall, and a
main building. The cabins were comfortable, and the lab facilities were adequate.
