    Government of Kerala, that generates and

    distributes the electricity supply in the state.

    The plant is controlled by Kerala load

    Distribution Center(KLDC)

    KLDC decides whether to produce or to buy

    power(whichever profitable)

    MECHANICAL DIVISION

    The plant works on diesel engine.MAN DIESEL

    A provider of large-bore diesel engines for powerplant applications

    4 stroke diesel engine is used.

    Number of Cylinder : 18

    Type of Cylinder : V type

    Engine capacity : 18000 cc/cylinder

    Engine power : 30,000 bhp

    LSHS is in semisolid form, it is heated by steam

    to make it liquid form.

    When melts it becomes the same form of

    diesel.

    The transfer of diesel to LSHS is done by a

    three valve mechanism(first diesel, then a

    mixture of diesel and LSHS, then LSHS)

    MAINTENANCE DIVISION

    There are totally five units of machines which

    are similar.

    Either two or three will be in work and the

    others remain idle.

    Once any problem occurs to the working unit,

    it is shut downed and the idle unit is operated

    Most common problems which require

    maintenance

    Corrosion of piston.

    Bending of crank

    Burning of piston ring

    All the above problems mainly occur due to the

    idleness of machine

    Lubrication and oil change.

    Changing of burned piston rings.

    Cleaning of cylinder valves.

    Electrical Division

    The engine is coupled with an alternator.

    The alternator consists of a stator and a rotor.

    The entire assembly is under one case.

    Switch gears of 220kv, 25000 A are used to

    control the supply.

    Then the load is reduced to 11kv for

    transmission, with the help of step down

    transformers
