Micturition disorders: incidence studyThe incidence of micturition disorders following isobaric
spinal anaesthesia are approximately twice as high withbupivacaine 0.5% compared with lidocaine 2% (56 vs 27%).
Of 146 patients (mean age 40 years) undergoingorthopaedic or trauma surgery who were equally randomisedto either treatment, 42% experienced disturbances inmicturition during the first 24 hours after surgery.Disturbances included more frequent and difficult passing ofurine and inability to urinate despite the feeling of having a fullbladder.
