    EUCON M SA

    POWDERED, DENSIFIED

    MICROSILICA CONCRETE

    ADMIXTURE

EUCON MSA  is a ready-to-use powdered

microsilica concrete admixture. This product re-acts chemically with the calcium hydroxide inthe Cement past which yields a calcium silicatehydrate gel that significantly enhances strengthand durability. The super fine micro silica fillsthe voids between cement particles creating avery dense, less permeable concrete.

    WHERE USED

EUCON MSA is recommended for use wherehigh strength, or high density concrete is needed.Higher strength allows for new structural designs, reducing the concrete section, production, trans-

portation and erection costs. Because of the re-duced permeability of the surfaces, concrete us-ing EUCON MSA is suited for use on bridgedecks and parking structures in marine envi-ronments and anywhere where corrosion of em-bedded steel due to salt or water ingress is apotential problem.

    FEATURES/BENEFITS:

l High ultimate compressive and flexuralstrength for greater structural capacity.

l High early strength gain for faster turn

around time.l Low permeability for greater resistance to

water and salt penetration.l Increased abrasion and chemical resis-

tance for a longer life expectancy.l Greatly improved freeze/thaw and scal-

    ing resistance.

    PACKAGING

EUCON MSA is packaged in 25 kg bags onshrink wrapped pallets.

    DIRECTION FOR USE

Owing to the fineness of EUCON MSA particles, the admixture needs to be thoroughly mixed anddispersed in and around the cement grains. Theproper dispersion is accomplished by adding themicrosilica first in the truck mixing process.

A typical mix sequence would be :l EUCON MSA

l 75% rock, plus sand and 75% waterl Air entraining and water reducing admix-

    tures (if used)l Cement

l Eucon 37 high range water reducerl Rock 25% and 25% water.

    DOSAGE

Use EUCON MSA at 7-10% by weight of ce-ment. Contact Construction Material ChemicalIndustries for guidance where higher dosagesof up to 15% by weight of cement are needed.

    FINISHING AND CURING

Some general notes on finishing and curing ofconcrete containing EUCON MSA.l Concrete containing EUCON MSA will

bleed much less than conventional con-crete; at higher dosage rates bleeding willbe essentially eliminated. Due to this lackof bleed water, concrete containingEUCON MSA will be more susceptible toplastic shrinkage cracks and surface dur-ing than ordinary concrete.

l Plastic shrinkage cracks occur due torapid moisture loss from the surface of

the concrete. Because concrete contain-ing EUCON MSA will have a reducedamount of bleed water to replenish thatwhich has evaporated, it will be more sus-ceptible to plastic shrinkage cracking.

l Plastic shrinkage cracking is most likelyto occur when low humidity, wind, high airtemperature and high concrete tempera-ture are present in any combination. Whenthese conditions do exist, the use of anevaporation retardant such as Euco-Barshould be used. Note that plastic shrink-age cracking on concrete containingEUCON MSA will occur at lower evapo-ration rates than for normal concrete.

l Methods other than EUCO-BAR can beemployed to help reduce the possible oc-currence of shrinkage cracking. Theseinclude erecting windbreakers, fog spraybetween finishing operations, coveringconcrete with wet burlap and reducingconcrete temperature with ice or cooledaggregates. Placing concrete later in theday to avoid direct sunlight and high tem-peratures is also good practice.

l If plastic shrinkage cracks do occur, prompt reworking of the fresh concrete

CMCICMCIcan effectively close them, preferably us-ing magnesium or steel tools. To preventrecurrence of the shrinkage cracks, theconcrete should be promptly and thor-oughly covered or kept moist.

l If a high dosage of EUCON MSA is usedin the concrete mix and conditions are fa-vorable for plastic shrinkage cracking, theconcrete may become very difficult to fin-

ish. In situation such as this, it is recom-mended to use a one pass finishing pro-cedure of screeding, bullfloating, andbroom finishing or texturing of the surface, followed immediately by curing proce-dures.

l Proper curing of concrete containingEUCON MSA is absolutely critical inorder to achieve the designed highstrength and high durability. Proper cur-ing requires the maintenance of propermoisture and proper temperature condi-

    tions in the concrete.

l All curing of concrete containing EUCONMSA should begin immediately after thefinishing procedure is completed. Accept-able curing methods are wet burlap, poly-ethylene and the use of a high solids liq-uid membrane forming curing compoundsuch as EUCO FLOOR COAT.

    GENERAL GUIDELINES

l Water demand will be increased. Mostmixes will require the use of a high range

water reducer such as EUCON 37 forworkability and suitable water contents.

l Test batches/mix designs will be neededfor each plant due to variations in cementsand aggregates.
