Those who are aware of 'Self' do not indulge in anti-social activities.Patanjali Yog begins beyond mind and only then is one able to attain real consciousness. When we go beyond mind then divinity, sense of completeness and broadness comes in personality. Mind has desires. It has sufferings of past and imaginations of future and fear for unknown. That is why we do not dare to take new initiatives, because that which is unknown, is complex and mysterious and under wraps. Those who dare to jump into the unknown offer something new to the world. When man jumps to know the unknown mystery unfolds, research takes place, illusion, confusion and fear evaporates. Mind is selfish and narrowness, restricted by limitations and inhibitions. To obtain Virat (extremely huge), Aseem (That which is limitless) and Anant (Infinite) you will have to reach 'Chaitanyabhav' (state of enlightment). We have created centres for life outside. Desire for worldly things, such as land, money, house, power, post and youthfulness and other physical properties starts from here. Decline of life starts from here because man accepts his existence and personality out of periphery of consciousness. Then, the benchmark of happiness is also created outside the periphery of consciousness. Earlier, individual was considered to be great because of his broader view, asceticism, sacrifice, abstemiousness, struggle and values of life and purity of mind and body. Now, razzmatazz and outlandishness are considered as symbols of greatness. Accumulation of wealth has become the reality and that is the reason for a man to repent. Man contemplates on the things that he has accumulated during his lifetime. In fact, all these have become so ephemeral that he is unable to to carry it with him after death. He loses his sleep and peace of mind to earn more money, position and power. 'Tatwagiani' (One who has eternal knowledge) says that man repents not for death but due to fear of losing everything. He fears from where he will go after death. Great thinkers have pondered deeply over these issues and centre of their thought process is life and death. Nowadays, we think everything is centered on life. The concept of development and science completely revolves around life. Man fears from death, so, he does not think about it at all. We have never been in conflict with materialism, science and development. But this is equally true that the last goal of life is self-realisation. The dream of a healthy, prosperous and happy life will remain a dream without balance of materialism and spiritualism. A spiritual man is free from corruption, communal-frenzy and criminal activities. He recognises true form of 'Self'. He sees an expansion of 'Self'. He cannot ditch others or become a traitor. He cannot indulge in bribery, theft, dacoity, murder and other criminal activities. Only spirituality is the answer to problems.

The announcement of this Bharat Swabhiman campaign, aiming to change the system, has brought new hopes in the hearts of millions. But on the other hand, it has expressed the concern of the people sitting at the top of the power or those who want to be there.

Swamiji Maharaj has announced his political purification campaign, a nationwide debate has begun. It is a good sign, a process to get the answer through question or to arrive at a decision by logic. From 18 to 20 years of his social life, Swamiji Maharaj taught yoga and patriotism to almost 30 million people. Not only this, his message reached 300 million people associated with these 30 million people directly and 1000 million people through television and other media. From Ramnavami 2009 to Ramnavami 2010 respected Swamiji Maharaj educated nearly two million people for 'Bharat Swabhiman", a reform programme of the nation. He made the announcement to build a new India in the meetings of 'Bharat Swabhiman" and Patanjali Yoga committees. The announcement of this Bharat Swabhiman campaign, aiming to change the system, has brought new hopes in the hearts of millions. It has also addressed the concern of the people sitting at the top of the power or those who want to be there. After a nationwide debate over this campaign, Swamiji answered some key questions raised by some well-known journalists. Here are some excerpts:

emergence as the

Divya Yog Mandir (Trust) has been publishing Yog Sandesh for the last seven years in black and white colours but now the management has decided to publish it in four colours. We are proud to bring a all new magazine in a new look for our readers at the same price. From this May, our readers will experience a very diiferent and informative content. It is only because of the love and support of our readers that we are able to take this significant step. We have kept likes of our readers in mind, while publishing it. Please send us your feedback so that we can improve our magazine with your support.

Baba, aren't you afraid of these powerful people sitting at the top?

Swami jiI have devoted myself to health, prosperity and honour of nearly 115 million Indians. This mission of Patanjali Yogpeeth and Ayurveda, which is serving millions of people today, has become the center of faith. No one can do any damage to it. Swami ji

Many of the saints, sages and babas are discussing your move, what is your opnion?

Many questions are arising due to your dual role, what would you say?

Swami jiNeither discussion nor comparison to anyone. At present, all the spiritual and nationalist saints are supporting me. I respect all of them. But as far as nation, religion and spirituality are concerned I always idealise great saints like Maharshi Dayanand and Swami Vivekanand. Apart from the saints, Sahid-e-Azam Bhagat Singh, Bapuji, Bismil and Azad were also ideal personalities of our country.

Swami jiDual role, accountability or responsibility is the work of great courage. If I fulfill the role of a Yogi, yoga teacher or Rajguru with honesty and responsibility, then there is no place for these types of questions. Dual character but not dual responsibility invites questions.

Man's consciousness, character, behaviour, knowledge or life have four levels- bestiality, humanity, divinity and ultrafree state of consciousness. We want to achieve divine consciousness. This is the call of every soul.

Responsible and honest people have no place in politics.

How fair is a political purification campaign by a saint?

Swami jiGreat saints like Swami Dayanand, Swami Vivekanand and Shri Arvind say that only responsible, honest and pure people should have the right to take hold of power, property and systems. Whenever power goes into the wrong hands, it is always misused. Lord Krishna says, 'Arjun, it is not important for me in this world to do something or get success but still I am fulfilling my responsibilities. My religion is to establish the truth, protect the goodMay 2010 YOG SANDESH 7

Swami jiEither you amend the Constitution and Election Commission's model code of conduct and write that only corrupt, dishonest and irresponsible criminals have right to fight the election. There is no place for honest people in power. If it cannot happen then only honest and responsible people should be in politics. We will definitely complete our mission.

human beings and terminate the evil from the world. Who will purify the world if the saints don't?

in front of the people of the nation. But now we will give a compact and the best exception. The nation has grown with Ram and Krishna that means the truth, and not with farce of Ravan and Kans. Truth lies in every human being's inner side. Whenever there are two exceptions in front of them, they always choose between the truth, honesty, culture, religion, spirituality and noble behaviour.

?Many of your admirers, critics, rationalists and intellectual writers are questioning from where Swamiji will bring an honest man?

?Lots of problems and challenges come across your way; do you think that you will succeed?

Swami jiIn our country almost 99 per cent people are honest. Cruel tantras and corrupt system force a common man to become dishonest. So there is no dearth of honest men in India. Only one per cent of top most dishonest men are here. They make country's 99 per cent people's life hell. So, we have to reveal their true faces.

Swami jiWhen I began my journey I was completely alone. I neither had money, surname nor a godfather. I did not take recourse of religion or any caste e to get success. Truth, honesty, selfconfidence and willpower are always with me in my journey. My work is worship for me and without being selfish, I serve the humanity. Apart from that I feel lucky to win the trust of crore of people. And with this revt olution I want to make India the most powerful nation in the world. Now they are my power, so that I don't have the fear of losing anything. The time when Lord Rama and Yogeshwar were fighting with devils like Ravana and Kans, nobody expected that Lord Ram would win over the evils. But at the end, truth won. Likewise, nobody expected that l the Indians could defeat the powerful British who had already established their roots in the country. But the e efforts by the Mahatma as well as the freedom fighters made it possible for the Indians to free the country from the British Rule. The same thing will happen in our revolution too. The good will withstand against all the odds.

? will you Howawake a person with individualist thinking, who always says 'let's refrain' from every problem of country and society? Swami jiThrough yoga, we will expand his consciousness. His individualist thinking would surely include humanist, spiritual and evolutionary thinking.

not happen was that before the eve of the Independence, the conspiracy of the Transfer of Power Agreement took place and after that just like the British government did, the people in the power converted the democracy into a 'loottantra'. The only difference is being earlier, it was the British people and now our own people are looting the nation. That means corruption is the biggest hurdle in front of the nation's development. At that time there were scarcity of capital, technical talent and other professionals in India. Today, we have no shortage of human resources, talent, capital and technology. So firstly, we will make India self-sufficient through indigenous technologies and later when the country will become prosperous then world's capital will be our strength, not weakness. Foreign investment makes the poor country poorer and powerful nation more powerful.

social evils. We want to build a society with a spiritual vision. Whenever the nation's power, wealth, resources and arrangements will be ruled by truth then poverty, hunger, illiteracy, unemployment and Naxalism will be eliminated automatically. When development of basic infrastructure will happen, all-round development of the country will be the next step. And finally India will emerge as the superpower. Despite your mission being holy why are the oppositions coming all the time?

?At a time when world is talking about globalisation and liberalisation, you are emphsising on Indianisation. How strong is your belief in terms of logic, science and development?

You have attained such a revered position. Is it prudent to put everything at stake?

Swami jiIn my opinion, there are three main reasons: (a) A few corrupt, dishonest and untrustworthy politicians who enjoy complete control over power, wealth and resources and think that power will eternally be with them. More than 99 per cent public is with us. (b) Even multinational companies and some of the world's most powerful nations see India as the biggest market. Some Indian leaders also act as their agents and do everything for them (c) People are not protesting because they are scared of these few corrupt leaders. Therefore, they are saying with trust and love that Babapolitics is very dirty. Do not take the risk of cleaning this. As you all know our well-wishers, parent, and our loved ones, the Gurujan don't want to see us amidst any risk or danger. For me Rashtradharma and Yogdharama both are equally important. I must say that patriotism is the supreme of all religions.

?Politics is purely a vote game and the corrupt officials have divided the nation's public/ votes into religion, castes, languages and regions. What you have to say?

Swamiji, politics has become very dirty. Why you are putting your hand in it ?

?

Swami jiI'm not against technology. I want my country's capital and talent to be used with world's latest technology. I want to make globalisation and liberalisation our strength, not weakness. Approximately 300 lakh crore of rupees deposited in foreign banks is black money. Then tell me, do we need foreign investment? You know, such companies are also run by our people and there is no shortage of talent in the country. In fact, we should use them and pay them the right value for that. Today India contributes of about 30 per cent of theworkforce in the world.

Swami jiTo clean the dirt, we will have to put hands to it. Nothing will happen if we will sit as a silent spectator.

Swami ji Swami jiOur national security, honour, fame, prestige and national pride are more important than my own dignity, security, fame and reputation etc. My homeland has the first right on me.8 YOG SANDESH May 2010

Almost 50-60 per cent citizens were not willing to vote because they didn't know whom to vote for. All the politicians are corrupt. We will include them with us in making the country completely free from poverty and corruption. Apart from that, we are including almost five to ten lakh people of a district as the members of 'Bharat Swabhiman' and we train them to get free from diseases and addiction. These members are the prime vote bank for us which will include all castes, religion, regions and languages. The people of the nation love me by going beyond the barriers of religion, languages, regions and conservations. Earlier, there was no other ideal exception

?A senior journalist from Times UK asked, Before 1991 India indulged in nationalisation. Why the country did not develop at that time?

?Would you work for vote?

Swami jiVoting takes place once in five years. The main goal of our movement is to make society free from diseases andMay 2010 YOG SANDESH 9

It is almost impossible to find an uncorrupt person, but pt Baba has ignited and initiated the nd process of honesty among the youth to ensure the future of the country. e It is his initiative to bring ative back to India the black money that lack has been deposited in foreign banks. The Congress has ruled this country more than any other party and it is er only right to punish those have leadh ers who have deposited money sited abroad for personal gains. The man l in the saffron dhoti is trying to i reconstruct the nation and is powerion ful enough to throw a challenge to w the government. His greatest assest is is the nation and its people. This has s added to the worries of the governes ment. If a fanatic does something oes unpleasant to him, then who will be accountable? ment The government should ensure his safety. After his announcement to launch a national aunch party, it is inevitible that his image e and his life will be targeted by political parties, who might go to any ght extent to harm him. m. In India politicians talk only iticians of religion, poverty etc. On the other hand, Baba has taught yoga to ught everyone, Hindu, Muslim, Sikh and Christian, without any discrimination. He is committed to enhance ed the pride of the nation. While hontion. ouring the families of the Mumbai attack and the Parliament attack, iament Baba assured them that entire nation is with them. As a response, m. we should say - Go ahead Swamiji, the entire nation is with you. Swamiji is patriotic and wants to c enable the youth to be the pride of o the future. In order to free India of corruption, we appeal to every citizen to support Baba Ramdev, the torchamdev, bearer of India's pride, so India's ide, pride and dignity will be everlasting.

INDI DIA'sPrasad Bismil, Sardar Patel, Lala Lajpat Rai and Mahatma Gandhi made the supreme sacrifice for our freedom. But today, under the guise of philanthropy, our politicians are destroying the country. They only have selfish goals. This is unacceptable to a true Indian. This country should not become a slave again. Hats off to Baba Ramdev, who has entered politics to rid the country of corrupt leaders. While people suffer silently the attrocities of corrupt and selfish leaders, Baba Ramdev's decision to enter politics is much welcome. All our leaders have taken an oath before Lord to be honest and faithful to the country and its people, but are corrupt and disloyal. Anyone can guess the fate of a country where all ill-doings are executed in the name of religion, where leaders are competing with each other to become rich, every government department is oiled with the grease of corruption. Such thoughts makes us shiver. Like a simple yogi, Baba Ramdev has made everyone agile and aware. He has taught people to practice yoga in a routine way. He has never pretended. He never claimed to improve one's future by analysing their horoscope. He never promised anyone to get him a government job through clout. But people followed him, and his fan following has increased with time. Many leaders are feeling the heat with Baba Ramdev's move to

The sage is a yoga guru, Swami Ramdev, whose yoga is spread from Kashmir to Kanyakumari. The flag of 'Bharat Swabhiman' is flying high. The announcement by yoga guru Baba Ramdev to enter politics has stirred politicians, because they are afraid their "regime" may be overturned. In a country often called the land of Aryans, where Lord Ram was the ideal king and Lakshman the ideal brother, what can it be called today when politics has led to bloodshed among brothers? Where once there was 'Ram Rajya', today demons of politics have made corruption their main target. It is a fact that the arrival of Baba Ramdev can help control the country's corrupt culture, because he believes that only patriotism is his mission. Looking into the past, we ascertain that India spread the the message of non-violence to the world. Helping others and doing noble things has always been a part of Indian culture. We not only hope, but firmly believe that Baba Ramdev will eliminate sinful leaders from politics. We know how effectively non-violence was implemented during the freedom struggle. Rishi Swami Ramdev Maharaj, the man who has taken the responsibility of making this world disease-free, is now planning to field his candidates in upcoming elections. But this decision has not got down well with many people. Renowned journalist Omkar Chaudhary talks to Swami Ramdev on doubts and necessities of stepping into the world of politics. Here are some excerpts:

Yoga

Corruptionthere will be capital

?Ramdevji, we have heard that you are stepping into the world of politics. Are you also preparing to contest elections?

Swami jiNo, no! I will neither contest elections nor agree to any political position. But yes, our candidates will contest on all 543 seats in the coming Lok Sabha elections. But before that we will make 7 to 10 lakh members in all districts.

English education structure. We have decided to save this nation. If we have to uplift every person, then we have to make this nation a true Bharat and bridge the gap between India and Bharat, then we have to take a big decision.

?Are you hopeful that systems will change?

of the beliefs of a contender have an impact. of ideologies and concepts are made by the central leadership.

10%

?There are so many parties and politicians in this country. So, what made you initiate someone into politics and send them to the Houses?

90%

Swami jiI am not the only one to say this, crore of Indians are saying this. Everybody wants the system to change but the question is who will make the change? The work, I am doing is not just my wish, it's desired by many. To fulfill this desire, somebody has to come forward. And for this, if a local leader, who's not recognised at the national level, comes forward then it will not happen. Politicians have ruined the system so it's futile to expect anything from them. Actors and sportspersons are busy in their work and the common men does not trust businessmen. Neither of them is ready to shoulder responsibilities. Therefore, we took a decision and it's in the different direction. Change will come by staying away from the greed of power and money.

Swami jiI want to do three things that these parties have not done. Firstly, I want to end the economy of black money. The black money deposited in foreign banks needs to be brought back, so that it can be used for the developmental work. For this, we need to have a tough law with the provision of death sentence against the corrupt people. Secondly, we need to have fast track courts and even the President should not be able to forgive the guilty. Unfortunately, our President has this right that even after the terrorists have been pronounced guilty, they are not hanged to death. It's a big misuse of the right. And lastly, we want to alter the policies in India, need to make changes from the beginning to end. We have to purify our fully corrupted political system, crooked administrative system and the

?How can you guarantee that the people whom you will choose to contest the elections

?If we talk about electoral politics, a lot of money and power are being used in elections. How will you compete with it?

?Many of your supporters are saying that Ramdevji should not enter politics. How do you explain them the need for doing this whole thing?

Swami jiIf they want they can use the monetary power, physical power or the power of the law. I don't care about that. That is why I said that I want 7 to 10 lakh people from one district and other parties can have 50,000, one lakh or two lakh people. They can give them free drinks or whatever they feel like. The people we will choose will be with us. Today also 75 per cent of people do not vote and those will be our strength. That is why I am not worried about any of these frivolous things.

Swami jiNone of my supporters are saying this. People have a fear, but now this fear has also ended. Some people opine that Swamiji should not venture into this kind of politics, where the situation is very bad. But my opinion is that if politics were so clean then there would have no need for a saint to enter into politics. Secondly, I tell everybody that people often say that corruption should be removed but who will take the initiative. The questions you are asking me had been asked six months ago now the latest news is (burst into laughter) that people are now saying that only Baba has the guts to give them a tough competition. Now even the conception is changing. The things you were asking were very depressing and converting into the real expectation.

biggest challenge is the financial crisis of the country. If development takes place then problems like Naxalism and unemployment will end. People will get more health facilities. The primary reason as to why we are witnessing Naxalism, illiteracy, hunger, insufficiency, poverty, and unemployment is the lack of development. Had there been no corruption, then these huge amounts would have been utilised for the development.

The name of Sachin Tendulkar for Bharat Ratna has been doing the rounds. For the last two years no one has been awarded Bharat Ratna.

Swami jiThe very concept of award has been politicised. Till date, I haven't been able to figure out whether these awards are given to the deserving people or to flatterers of politicians? As far as Sachin is concerned, he is the pride of the nation. Personally, I am not a cricket fan but a fan of Indian sports. I believe that even cricket shouldn't be played much in the country. It has adversely affected the nation and has totally destroyed the indigenous games of the country, and has also caused the country a great sense of loss that it has become commercial. The game should be played during a prefixed time, which does not destroy (diminish) the productivity of the country as well as does not affect the youth.

Cont. from Pg 15...

will be honest and not become corrupt after winning?

?People want to know which organisations are threatening you? And how much danger do they pose?

Swami jiYou have been demanding the ban on the use of Rs1000 and 500 notes. In his budget statement, the FM mentioned about having a unique logo (on the lines of Dollar, Euro and Yen) for our currency. Are you satisfied with all these?I will take the moral responsibility of all my candidates and if someone fails, then we can dismiss them even after winning the elections. We have only one aim that whosoever is involved in corruption, especially economical and moral corruption should be hanged to death. Whether that person is from our organisation or is someone in power elected by us, this law must be applied to one and all. Only two things can stop crime, either morality or punishment. The punishment is there for anyone who crosses the line of morality.

We have only one aim that

?There are so many millionaires and billionaires in the Parliament. Do you think they truly represent the 80 per cent of our poor population?

whosoeveris involved in corruption, especially economical and moral corruption should be hanged to death.

Swami jiIt's a long list. However, this is the result of people's immense trust and faith in us. Moreover, foreign companies have a different perspective to look at things. Their perspectives are based on religion and there are very big organisations that are supporting them endlessly. In fact, people who feel threatened by the movement have also joined them. There are three power centres from where we keep on getting the information regarding their ploys. It's a big issue, and I do not speak on them because I am afraid of death. But having said this, I will fearlessly keep on working for the needy.

Swami jiThe first thing is that some things need to be seen in the concept of having representatives. Also people's representatives do not have a big role to play. The political parties, their beliefs, ideologies and concepts play a role. Hardly 10 per cent of the beliefs of a contender have an impact. Ninety per cent of ideologies and concepts are made by the central leadership. We need to concentrate on the contenders of any party and the character of a party is defined by the character of its representatives. Also, as far as personal characteristics are concerned, if any billionaire comes to the fore, there should not be any problem as long as he has not been involved in any financial scam. He should not have earned money by committing crimes or being corrupt or through unfair means. It is not bad to earn money. Politics is not a word for poverty. And also it's not a word for wealth. Moreover, it is more important to know how pure and fair their money is.

Swami jiThey print large amount of currency notes because in the end it reaches them only. They reach the bureaucrats and they do not want to stop the printing of notes. The PM and Rahul Gandhi had agreed that the printing of high denomination notes should be stopped. High value notes can be comfortably transported and printed.Once we stop printing them, it will automatically resolve all the issues.

?Don't you think that all nonpolitical people who tried their hands at politics failed to bring in change?

Whether that person is from our organisation or is someone in power who has been elected by us, this law must be applied to one and all.

?Don't you think that the message is conveying that Baba is heading towards a power centre?

Swami jiEvery person in the country knows that the power is under Baba If you are talking about the centre of power then I think I am right there at that place. Why should I bother to get those things which I already have? The things we possess can not be the prime goal for anyone.

?Is the security provided to you adequte enough?

Swami jiI have always said one thing that I do not believe in comparing myself or criticising anyone. Secondly, it needs to be seen how great the personality was of the people who tried to bring in change. How popular and worthy they were. What was the nature of their service to the nation? And how big was their character spiritually and nationally? The personality is very vulnerable; the citizens of India scan you thoroughly to see how reliable you are and what have you contributed for this nation's development.

Swami jiYes, I have been provided with security. Although I have told IB officers where I am if I depend on the government machinery for everything then anybody can come and do anything.

?What according to you are the biggest challenges to the country and what are the solutions?

Swami jiThe biggest solution is to end corruption in the country. And theMay 2010 YOG SANDESH 17

"One who is able to withdraw his senses from objects, as the tortoise draws its limbs within the shell, is firmly fixed in perfect consciousness." visaya vinivartante niraharasya dehinah rasa-varjam raso 'py asya param drishtva nivartate 59 yatato hy api kaunteya purushasya vipascitah indriyani pramathini haranti prasabham manah 60 these sensual objects departs when one starves them by restraining the senses from indulging in them. But although the action is restrained, the craving remains subtly within the mind. So the craving attachment for taste of sense objects remains present. So until all desires for sense objects completely vanish along with the residue of craving, it is impossible to attain the ultimate goal. Geeta very clearly states that it is not possible to restrain our senses by torturing our body. For that we will have to learn how we can control our senses. Thus disciplined lifestyle and knowledge of supreme are real tools to control our body and soul. Thus the control over the senses is root cause of stabilising the mind. Now Lord Krishna reveals the reasons for which one cannot possess a stable mind. Those who have spiritual intelligence with discrimination and power of observation are trying their level best to withdraw their mind repeatedly away from objects of the senses and directing it internally within in a form of meditation. But the senses are so strong that they forcibly invade the mind, disrupt this meditation and forcibly overpower the mind and indulge it in contemplating sense gratification and bodily attachment. How is it possible that the senses can carry away one's mind while they are intently striving? It is because the senses are so restless and turbulent that they are besieging the mind and direct it towards sensual objects that will gratify these senses by engaging the mind in sense contemplation. tani sarvani samyamya yukta asita mat-parah vase hi yasyendriyani tasya prajna pratisthita 61 dhyayato visayan pumsah sangas tesupajayate sangat sanjayate kamah kamat krodho 'bhijayate 62

Geeta's philosophy

Geeta's philosophy is that unrest in the world is due to the negative velocity like anger, greed, infatuation, and jealousy which are the attributes of negative feelings. Peace can only be restored if positive feelings rule our brain.

Cont. from Pg 19...

Needless to say if someone accepts pleasure, pain, glory, defeat, profit, loss, all in the same stride without involving oneself into the outcome of the action and maintain the same peaceful state of mind in every situation, then it is said that he is a man of steady intelligence. So be 'stithpragya' and have faith in the divine. While contemplating the objects of the senses, a person develops attachment for them, and from such attachment lust develops, and from lust anger arises. krodhad bhavati sammohah sammohat smriti-vibhramah smriti-bhramsad buddhi-naso |buddhi-nasat pranasyati 63 raga-dvesa-vimuktais tu visayan indriyais caran atma-vasyair vidheyatma prasadam adhigacchati 64 prasade sarva-duhkhanam hanir asyopajayate prasanna-cetaso hy asu buddhih paryavatisthate 65 nasti buddhir ayuktasya na cayuktasya bhavana na cabhavayatah shantir asantasya kutah sukham 66

66One who is not connected with the Supreme [in Krishna consciousness] can have neither transcendental intelligence nor a steady mind, without which there is no possibility of peace. And how can there be any happiness without peace? In 66th verse explaining some psychological element, it is said that mind does nothing if expression is not connected with it. Wisdom only sees but emotion makes that dynamic. So it is spirit of the doer that makes thing happen. Otherwise mere looking is a waste. For example a man sees the snake. But he starts running when sense of fear creeps in. Here, getting scared is the 'emotion'. Emotions can be of two types: positive and negative. Love, excitement, hope, peace are positive emotions whereas envy, resentment, anger, discord, hatred are negative emotions. But both provide velocity to brain. Geeta's philosophy is that unrest in the world is due to the negative velocity like anger, greed, infatuation, and jealousy which are the attributes of negative feelings. Peace can only be restored if positive feelings rule our brain. That's the 'Chabhavayat' of the Geeta. indriyanam hi caratam yan mano 'nuvidhiyate tad asya harati prajnam vayur navam ivambhasi 67 tasmad yasya maha-baho nigrhitani sarvasah indriyanindriyarthebhyas tasya prajna pratisthita 68 ya nisa sarva-bhutanam tasyam jagarti samyami yasyam jagrati bhutani sa nisa pasyato muneh 69 apuryamanam acala-pratishtham samudram apah pravishanti yadvat tadvat kama yam pravishanti sarve sa shantim apnoti na kama-kami 70

carry away a man's intelligence. Therefore, O mighty-armed, one whose senses are restrained from their objects is certainly of steady intelligence.

69What is night for all beings is the time of awakening for the self-controlled; and the time of awakening for all beings is night for the introspective sage. Although this statement seems to be self contradictory, it describes the meaning of specific indicators. Mean to say that the object which seems unnecessary to an ignorant is indispensable to the knowledgeable. Here 'night' symbolises darkness. For example, ordinary people are engaged in actions but wise people find darkness there. It doesn't charm them. Wise people believe in selfless action but normal people do not think it to be interesting.

71A person who has given up all desires for gratification, who lives free from desires, who has given up all sense of proprietorship and is devoid of false ego-he alone can attain real peace.

70A person who is not disturbed by the incessant flow of desires-that enter like rivers into the ocean, which is ever being filled but is always still-can alone achieve peace, and not the man who strives to satisfy such desires. There are some basic differences between the approach of Western psychology and Indian psychology of the Geeta. Western approach is that we should raise our desires, we should accumulate resources for the advancement of the civilisation. At the same time Geeta says - As rivers, riverines merge with the sea, but they never become furious with them, similarly when desires come to a person, he or she should never run behind the desires. By this verse it is clear that the person, who has attained transcended consciousness, should not abstain from action. It is not necessary for him to sacrifice the 'karma'. He should perform his duties irrespective of their outcomes. In this way peace of his mind also remains intact. Like a sea he remains quiet

72That is the way of spiritual life, a life which helps a man to have a clear perception of everything. In 7th verse of chapter 2 of Geeta: Arjuna said that I have become 'Sanmudh', i.e. I have no idea what to do. I have been caught in 'moha'. In this verse, it is stated that the situation of 'Brahmi' paves way for 'illusion'. At the end of Geeta, it is said that 'Nashto mohah smrtirlbdh' which means my infatuation has been destroyed. By all this, it is clear that the main goal of Geeta is to destroy the root cause of 'infatuation'. Lord Krishna very clearly told Arjuna that according to Sankhya philosophy and 'Smaarth Marg', it is your duty to fight being a Kshatriya. Because no action could be more holier than to fight. Although to die and kill is horrible but for a Kshatriya it opens the gates of heaven. If you will not indulge yourself in war due to some infatuation, then the people who respect you will doubt your abilities. They will call you coward and condemn you in many ways.Cont. on next issue...

63-65From anger, complete delusion arises, and from delusion bewilderment of memory arises. When memory is bewildered, intelligence is lost, and when intelligence is lost one falls down again into the material pool. But a person free from all attachment and aversion and able to control his senses through regulative principles of freedom can obtain complete mercy of the Lord. For one thus satisfied [in Krishna consciousness], the threefold miseries of material existence exist no longer; in such satisfied consciousness, one's intelligence is soon well-established.20 YOG SANDESH May 2010

moral sanctity, complete Indianness i.e, thrust on swadeshi and discarding foreign products and thoughts completely, and also complete organised and disciplined people, i.e we should be able to march ahead together.

limitations and The core philosophy of our culture,i.e., economic principles is complete sanctity and

We will thrust upon complete Indianisation of education, health care, laws, economy, agriculture and administration.

Bharat Swabhiman are:[1] To end corruption and bring back the Rs 258 lakh crore parked in foreign countries. To try to include the Rs 60 lakh crore black money deposited in our country in the mainstream economy and in the development of the nation. To make an effort to stop the business of black economy forever. [2] To formulate capital punishment for people involved in corruption, rape, dowry deaths, cow slaughter, terrorism and adulteration to ensure safety and security to the 115 crore Indians. To have fast-track courts for the speedy delivery of cases, ensuring fast justice to the victims of heinous crimes. As the President has the power to repeal death sentence, we will ensure that criminals guilty of heinous acts are kept out of the ambit. [3] Bureaucracy was set-up by the British to loot India of its the resources, to oppress the common man and to rule upon us forever. We will change all such laws made with malafide intentions, for the benefit of the nation.

The ways to achieve the above three objectives Membership MovementOnly the Lok Sabha has the right and power to stop the activities of black economy, make laws for a corruption-free society, end crime, and the day-to-day functioning of the state. In order to achieve our objectives, we will choose 543 MPs from 626 districts of India and they will accomplish the task. We need to enroll 7-10 lakh members of "Bharat Swabhiman" in every district who will elect a representative to accomplish the above three tasks. We will free India of corruption and change the flawed system. In addition to that we will make everyone an ideal citizen by eradicating dis-

eases, de-addicting them from social evils. We will instill dutifulness and nationalism in citizens that will help make India an ideal and powerful nation. Any village that would be 90-100 per cent yogmay, free from addiction and diseases and would be healthy, hygienic, self-dependent and morally sound will be our ideal village.

How will India become corruption free?[1] India will have 300 lakh crore rupees of surplus money once black money economy ends. That means India's GDP (Gross Domestic Product) will touch 350 lakh crore rupees and the annual growth rate will be 20 per cent. In short, India will be the biggest economic power by 2020. At present the GDP of the USA is 619 lakh crore rupees and India will surpass it by that time.

[1] The central and state governments have an annual budget of Rs 20 lakh crore and 80 per cent of this amount is siphoned off by corrupt bureaucrats, leaders and businessmen. Former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi also accepted this fact. In our mission to change the establishment, we have to first stop the circulation of black money. [2] Almost 17 crore hectare of land is under the control of the government. These lands are either given to the multinational companies on lease at throwaway prices or used for illegal encroachment. [3] The mineral resources of our country like coal, iron, gold, silver and other precious stones are given on contract at throwaway prices. In addition to that, corruption also exists in the process of awarding contracts, doling out jobs and transfers. [4] Barring few honest and patriotic leaders, most of the leaders are the agents of foreign companies.

[2] We will spend these 300 lakh crore rupees in 626 districts of the country. This means that every district will have 50,000 crore rupees for development. That way, if every district has 500 villages, then every village will have 100 crore rupees for development. [3] What will be the future of kids, the youth, the talented people, Dalits, Mahadalits, labourers and farmers? If every district will have 50,000 crore rupees for development that money can be spent in agriculture, rain-water conservation, irrigation, waste management, electricity generation, education, health care etc. This will help in the development of nation and every region will be self-dependent. Millions of people will get jobs and everyone will have dignity. Demands for job reservation will ebb. Talented people will contribute to the development of the nation. The unemployed youth and labourers will get minimum salary of Rs 10,000 per month and farmers will get due price of their crops. Everybody will get high quality education for free and nobody will be illiterate or hungry. With the help of Samskar and Yoga, education will be imparted in our own language and this will give everybody an equal opportunity of development. Corruption and lack of development are the only reasons for problems like illiteracy, destitution, population explosion, improper hygiene, hunger and Naxalism. Spiritual development will help solving all menaces infesting the country.

Demonism, humanism and divinity are not different forms of life but different layers of one's character. We have to start and reach lower subconscious to medium subconscious to highest sub consciousness.

of black money deposited in other countries. The government can take action under the various sections of Economic Offence Act. For example, every year 80,000 people visit Switzerland of which 25,000 make yearly multiple visits. Why? The answer is that they deposit money in the Swiss Bank. These people are either a part of the establishment or are being protected by it. 2. The circulation and flow of black money can be stopped by having a policy of swapping the existing big denomination currency notes with new currency. Secondly, all old currencies should expire after a fixed deadline. Black money, corruption, fake currency and terrorism will end at once. Eventually a time comes when little efforts yield big results. Come join us change the destiny of 115 crore people of this country. The core philosophy of our culture is complete sanctity (economic and moral sanctity), complete Indianness (thrust on swadeshi and discarding foreign products and thoughts), and also complete organized and disciplined people (to march ahead together). If a king lives lavishly, his people are poor and destitute. When the king lives with austerity, his people live in prosperity. The core of this movement lies in yoga, spiritualism, culture, truth, service and God. So, our main aim is just not to change the system but to bring an honest change within ourselves. We should get rid of all our weaknesses, break shackles of slavery and construct an ideal society, an ideal nation and a new era that works honestly and truthfully. Hanuman and Arjuna, the heroes of system change, were despaired initially but later it metamorphosed in to hope, jest and win. As per the estimates by Tax Justice Network and the World Bank, 1.6 trillion dollars (Rs 72 lakh crore) of black money is being gathered annually in Swiss Bank and other banks in 60 countries. Till now, 11.5 trillion

dollars (Rs 516 lakh crore) has been deposited in foreign countries. Half of this black money belongs to the corrupt people of India and the other, to the developing world. Only three per cent of the world population constitutes the people involved in the circulation of black money. These people have left other 97 per cent people in misery. We have to bring back this money to our country and make our country strong. A theft in one's house has a disturbing effect on the home budget. Similarly, a few corrupt people have made our country poor, destitute and deprived. All conscious and sensitive citizens have the desire to end corruption and other sins. But the problem is who will take the responsibility to end this malice? Only that person who is known at a local and national level, is equally respected by all and has done some service to the nation is capable of taking this responsibility. He should be courageous, capable of defeating corruption and should have a nationwide network. These qualities are rare in any leader, industrialist etc. God himself has sent one such person who is replete with these qualities and has come to life to free Mother India from sins. He is no other than Baba Ramdev. Under the aegis of nationwide network of "Bharat Swabhiman" we will initiate change at the village and district level. The helm of this movement will obviously be in the hands of respectable Swami Ramdev ji Maharaj who will take this movement to conclusion. The aim of honest and truthful worker:

Our culture, tradition & dutiesWhen Ravana, Kansa, Mahananda and the British starting oppressing the people, when innocent people were writhing in pain, and when there was furor and sorrow around, then God Rama, God Krishna, Chanakya and other revolutionaries came to the rescue and ended the sufferings by changing the system and thus presented a role model to us. Therefore, like God Rama and God Krishna, we have to act as a catalyst of change and not be greedy for money and power. This is our spiritual, religious, social and national duty.

Only those people have been able to change the systems

Bharat "Swabhiman"

that were free from any desire of power, assets and money.

Proof of the existence of black economyIn addition to the Swiss banks, Rs 258 lakh crore are parked in the banks of 60 other countries. Rs 60 lakh crore are circulating in our own country. The Switzerland government and Swiss Banks have given information about huge amount of black money. TaxJustice Network, Transparency International and others have estimated that there is approximately Rs 258 lakh crore black money from India. The National Council for Applied Economic Research and more than 40 committees have accepted that more than Rs 60 lakh crore are flowing as black money in the financial veins of India and this is debilitating and crippling the entire financial system.

Most of the political workers' aim is to earn money and power. But our spiritual and social workers' aim is to do nation service and not to earn money and power. We have to always keep this ideal in our mind. Most of the political workers wake up two months before the election. But we will work two hours everyday with utmost dedication for two years and integrate whole India with Bharat "Swabhiman".

we import readymade technology from foreign countries through multinational companies, we provide jobs to engineers and technicians from other countries. This means, we export jobs to developed countries. Had we produced them in our countries, we would have given additional jobs to Indian engineers and technicians. It is also possible to generate more opportunities in the fields that are disappearing suddenly.

Serious threat to the livelihood of

1.80 lakhskilled workersAdidas, Puma and Lotto have established their sportswear industries in Jalandhar, posing threat to the livelihood of 60,000 people. This will also pose a serious threat to the livelihood of 1.80 lakh skilled workers of Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Delhi.

Rajeev Dixit

FOOTHOLD IN THE COUNTRYMNCs like Adidas, Puma, Duke, Nike and Lotto have entered in readymade sportswear business, leading to the loss of livelihood to millions of tailors. Moreover, the readymade garment industry is quickly gaining its foothold in the country.

This results in a situation where the capabilities of most of our engineers and technicians are not utilised and other countries benefit from it. In addition to it, when we import a foreign technology, the job of an engineer is only confined to maintain the equipment. It is a known fact that not much skill is required in maintenance while technical expertise is required in developing new technology and do research. This means that engineers and technicians are not employed according to their capabilities and skills. Industrial countries' also get benefits from the skilled labour who migrate from India in search of greener pastures. These people get high-quality education in Indian technical institutions and move to developed countries like Germany, Britain, America and others without giving benefit to the parent country and this process of braindrain contributes largely to the development of already industrialised countries. They provide both economic and historic benefits. As per the study of Centre for Research, Planning and Action (New Delhi), India suffered the loss of $130 billion. If this does not stop, more than 75 lakh skilled people would migrate by the end of the century. At present, 2.5 crore Indians are working abroad. As per the study, there are 32 per cent of engineers, 28 per cent of doctors

Increasing Unemploymentand 5 per cent scientists. When a doctor leaves the country, we loose Rs 3.5 crore. Whereas he earns Rs 60 crore in America, which is 20 times the money spent on making him a doctor. On the other hand, there is a dearth of qualified doctors in our country with 5000 people scrambling for the advice of one doctor and in villages this ratio is 45000:1. The major chunk of Indian talent is shifting to the US. Between 1957 to 1965, the number of Indian doctors, engineers and scientists were 1000 but it grew to 4000 between 1966 to 1968. Till 1977, 16,849 Indian doctors, engineers and scientists had migrated to the US. Due to liberal economic policies, foreign contracts have flooded the country and till 1995 more than 20,000 contracts had run in the country but it reached to 45,000 by 2008. This resulted in unwanted growth of a few sectors. In the last five years, the organised sector has developed to a great extent, while job growth in this sector remained stagnant to merely 1.5 per cent. This means capital investment in this sector has been huge but creation of jobs in this sector was quite feeble. On the other hand, in the smallscale industry sector, the capital investment has been minimum, but the most important fact is that 80 per cent of the total employed population lives in unorganised industry sector. In the year 1986-87, 10.1 crore people were employed and it was 10.7 crore at the end of 198788. By 2008, the number of smallscale and cottage industries had reached 5.8 crore. More than 640,000 small-scale industries have become sick due to the competition thrown at them by big multinational companies and are on the verge of closure. The products of multinational companies are same as the small-scale industries. The effect of competition is very much evident from the slow pace of growth of the 10.3 lakh smallscale industries. Due to this factor, the number of sick industries is increasing continuously, resulting in unemployment of lakhs of people. The government estimates say that 1.84 crore people add to the list of unemployed people every year. If this is not enough, the MNCs have completely wiped out indigenous skills and crafts in the name of development. Craftsmen and artisans have been badly affected by the fast pace of modernisation. If shoe industry is modernised, then who will be worst affected? Obviously, the cobbler. If foreign companies come here to sell processed sugar cane juice then who will be affected? Your next door juice seller only. And if water is being sold by them, then only God knows what will be the fate of this country.

The figure of unemployed people at

17.20 croreIn 2008, the official data had put the figure of unemployed people at 17.20 crore. This is the data of registered users from employment exchanges. Thousands of people do not turn at the employment exchange to get their names registered. If the names of all of them are honestly compiled then this figure will reach to 40 crore.

About lakh skilled labours lost jobs

3.75

BATA and other plastic shoes industry have wiped out lakh of cobblers across the country. VIMCO destroyed matchstick industry of Shivakashi and Haridwar. Pepsi and Coke destroyed 2525 smallscale industries that resulted in the loss of jobs for 3.75 lakh skilled labourers.

Psychological and physical form of diseaseAccording to the ayurveda, diseases do not have only physical or mental form. Body related ailments affect the human mind and mental ailments affect our body. This is why while treating a disease, the mind and body should not be segregated. All diseases should be treated differently according to the form of psychological or the physical form of body. According to Acharya Charak, kapha, pitta, vata and mind are the roots of every disease. Our sages have done research for centuries before making the use of ayurvedic herbs. The basic sources of all these herbs are botanical gardens, animal products (cow urine, milk, ghee) etc. As chemicals are not used in ayurvedic medicines they do not have any kind of side-effect. Presently, a class of allopathic doctors has raised their doubts over the use of certain metals like copper and few32 YOG SANDESH May 2010

However, they do not know that these substances are taken inside the body after certain processes. As a result, they don't contain their natural properties and become beneficial for the human body.

These herbs not only heal the patients but enrich the healthy persons by developing the immune system of the body. Chywanprash and Chandraprabha Vati are very good examples of it.

SWADESHI MOVEMENT

'THEN' & 'NOW'division of Bengal during the British regime resulted in the Swadeshi movement that spread across the country. Lokmanya Tilak, Ajit Singh, Lala Lajpat Rai, Syed Haider Raza, Chidambaram Pillai , Bipin Chandra Pal were instrumental in spreading this movement to the various parts of the country as a full-fledged political public struggle through their speeches and other efforts. The movement was extremely popular in Rawalpindi, Kangra, Multan, Haridwar, Mumbai, Pune, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh etc.

The

but the movement continued. The extremist faction established a stronghold in Bengal. The Swadeshi movement benefited greatly from voluntary organisations who prepared the mandate for the struggle. Realising the importance of indigenous industries for selfdependence, many textile mills, soap and matchbox factories, leather firms, banks and insurance companies came into being. Many of these companies failed as their owners did not have business acumen. They ran these factories with patriotism. But many others survived and did a good job. The swadeshi movement had deep cultural impact on the cultural landscape of Bengal. This was the golden period for Bengali littrateurs. Authors like Rabindranath Tagore, Rajnikant Sen, Dwijendralal Roy, Mukund Das,

The British always provoked Muslims to deteriorate the impact of Swadeshi movement and kept inciting communal sentiments time and again.Communal mindset weakened the Swadeshi Movement. However, the movement itself was responsible to deviate from the right path. Though revolutionaries were honest to their goals.

Syed Abu Muhammad contributed largely to literature and their work became a source of inspiration for revolutionaries, liberal leaders and Gandhians. By the end of 1908 the movement was on the wane, leading to the emergence of the revolutionary movement, with a charged up youth for support. The Swadeshi movement built a platform for further struggle and filled nationalism in the heart of common Indian. The movement weakened the hold of British government and colonial thinking in a big way. It completely altered the cultural landscape of the country. During the colonial rule, the Swadeshi movement was very strong in Haridwar and 'Lal Building' of Kripalu Bagh Ashram played a crucial role in the freedom struggle. This 'Lal Building' has been a silent witness to the freedom movement in the country. Kripalu Bagh Ashram was established by Swami Kripaludev ji Maharaj. It was a shelter for famous revolutionaries like Ras Bihari Bose and his friends. In 1611 in Machilipatnam (Andhra Pradesh) and on 11 January, 1613 in Surat, the Mughals allowed foreign compa-

nies to trade. These companies increased exploitation and made their roots stronger in the country. After winning the Battle of Plassey in 1757 in Bengal, these companies started collecting tax. Even during the famine in Bengal in 1769-70, the Company exploited the people and strengthened its roots. The Company introduced Regulatory Act -1773 and started ruling some parts of Bengal. Within a matter of time, a foreign company began to rule our country. The colonial rule lasted 350 years with the East India Company. They not only plundered our resources but enslaved India for 200 years. Swamiji is of the view that more than 5000 companies working in the area of zero-technology such as flour, salt, cold drinks, juice, chips, soaps, oil, cream, powder, shoes, and clothes are exploiting our resources without contributing to the prosperity of our country. This is a major roadblock in the development of the nation. Every single penny that is deposited in any foreign country is dangerous for the foreign currency reserve of the nation. The economy of the nation is our backbone and a source of power. We cannot let our country become weak by buying foreign products. They have exploited and drained ourCont. on Pg 40...

Kripalu Bagh Ashramthe place from where Baba Ramdev Ji Maharaj started 'Yog Kranti' to make India a healthier nation. Now, Patanjali Yogpeeth is working to establish Rishi Parampara, a creation of clean and healthy India under the aegis of 'Bharat Swabhiman' and 'Vyavastha parivartan'. Depleting values, hunger, and unemployment has resulted in national crisis like situation. This is less of democracy and more of "Loottantra" To change this system is necessary.

Jaishankar Mishra 'Savyasachi'Associate Editor 'Yog Sandesh'

Though all leaders were united in the cause of swaraj, there were huge differences among extremists and liberal leaders about the pace and way of movement. Without a consensus, and with no way to bridge the gap in belief, the Indian National Congress split into two factions,

Swami Ramdev Ji Maharaj Saysthat no country in this world can be great without realising the importance of indigenous industries, indigenous healing system, indigenous technology, indigenous knowledge, food, language and pride for his country. We want to make every Indian selfdependant and India among powerful nations of the world. Swadeshi language, samaskar, vedic knowledge and nationalist pride will be the face of an ideal India in the world.

resources for centuries, so we need to bring foreign currency by trade with foreign countries, and must encourage export. Creating demand for our products in foreign countries is very necessary for the empowerment of our country. Shri Maharaj urges every Indian to take an oath to not use products manufactured by multinational companies like Lux, Lifebuoy, Rin, Liril, Rexona, Pears, Colgate, Pepsodent, Close-up, Ponds, Lakme, Dettol etc in our daily life. Coke and Pepsi are poisonous drinks and we should also not consume mineral water under the brand name Aquafina and Kinley. Maharaj also urges us to not consume junk food from McDonalds and Dominos and they should not be promoted at any cost. Although some of the products manufactured by foreign companies are of good quality, but we should not promote their use as they are harmful for the economic growth of our country. Today, Indian companies are producing good quality products that are being used in daily life. There is an urgent need to promote indigenous products if we want to avoid economic slavery. Without promoting indigenous products we cannot win over unemployment, hunger and poverty. To change the system Swami has established Bharat Swabhiman Trust. Bharat Swabhiman movement has nine policies and objectives that are as follow 1. Swadeshi way of healing 2. Indian education system 3. Indian economic system 4. Indian legal system 5. Protection of Indian culture 6. Making a hunger-free, unemployment-free, corruption-free prosperous India. 7. Rural self-dependency 8. Environment conservation and cleanliness 9. Population control

our national language Hindi and by imparting education in regional languages like Gujarati, Assamese, Tamil, Marathi, Bengali, Telugu or Kannada, then why are we slave of Lord Macaulay's education system? Why do we insult our languages again and again? As per the Article 343 and 344 of the Indian Constitution, education, administration and justice delivery should be made in Indian language. During the British era it was our compulsion, but now we should get rid of that thought. One per cent of the people are deciding the fate of 99 per cent of the population and that just because of the language. Why? (C) When MLAs, MPs and other minister send their children to good schools, colleges or universities and get their family and relatives treated in a good quality hospital, then why does the common man not have access to the same facilities and benefits? In developed countries like Canada and Britain, people representatives send their kids to government schools and get health treatment at government hospitals. This is because the education a
