Seizure: case reportIn a retrospective review of 158 children receiving

ropivacaine [Naropin] for acute femur fracture, one boy wasidentified who developed seizure. He received epiduralropivacaine [dosage not stated]. He experienced seizure[duration of treatment to reaction onset not stated]. Hereceived soya oil emulsion with subsequent resolution ofseizure.

Author comment: "[I]ntralipids are considered first-linetherapy for severe reactions (arrhythmia or seizure) topresumed accidental intravascular injection of ropivacaine.Given that the patient who received the intralipids did nothave any type of arrhythmia, it is unclear if his seizure was aresult of inadvertent intravascular injection of FICNB or if itwas due to other, underlying injury."Neubrand TL, et al.
