18 A ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY AINSWORTH MICROCHEMICAL BALANCES IN OUR STOCK FOR IMMEDIATE SHIPMENT BALANCE, SEMIMICRO, Ainsworth Type TX. Iden- tical in general construction and design with the excellent Type Τ Ainsworth Analytical Balance but of smaller ca- pacity and adjusted for estimations to 0.005 mg. Capacity—100 grams in each pan. Sensitivity—0.01 mg; weighings can be reproduced to 0.005 mg. Beam—6 inches long, of hard rolled aluminum alloy, machined from a solid slab and finished in black with white graduations, with edges of triangular-shaped agate driven solidly into fdace, insuring permanent accuracy. Graduated into 100 notched divisions on each side of central zero, range 0 to 1 mg on each side when using a 1 mg rider so that each notch represents 1/100 mg. Release and Arrest—Drop lever type. Knife Edges and Planes—Of agate throughout. 1887-U. Balance, Semimicro, Ainsworth Type TX, as above described, without weights but with two each 10 mg and 1 mg riders and four cushioned balance rests 437.00 BALANCE, MICRO, Ainsworth Type FDI. A rugged and robust precision balance with optical lever reading device which provides great magnification of beam de- flection without the use of a reading lens and without danger of errors due to paral- lax. Readings are made directly to 0.001 mg on the optical lever scale without inter- polation or estimation. Capacity—20 grams in each pan. Sensitivity—0.001 mg with a load of 15 grams in each pan. Beam—5 inches long; of hard-rolled aluminum alloy, machined from a solid slab, with knife edges swaged in place. Graduated from left to right into 100 divisions, range 0 to 10 mg. when using a 5 mg rider. The beam is in equilibrium with the 5 mg rider in the zero notch. For rapid final adjustment or for readjustment of zero point, there is a small extension with 10 divisions, on the left of the beam, to take an auxiliary 0.5 mg. rider. Optical Lever Reading Device—Consisting of a system of mirrors, low volt- age light source with special horizontal straight line filament 0.5 ampere bulb, transformer, rheostat and voltmeter for filament control, mounted in a hood on top of the Balance, and optical lever scale 100 mm long, graduated from 0 to 100 on both sides of a central zero, mounted on the base of the Balance in front of the column. In use, a narrow intense line of light is projected on the scale, each division of which is 0.5 mm wide and equivalent to View mg with a 5 mg rider on beam; but, to facilitate easy reading, the optical lever scale should be shielded from direct illumination. Release and Arrest—Drop lever type. Knife Edges and Planes—Of agate throughout. 1889-C. Balance, Micro, Ainsworth Type FDI, with optical lever reading device, as above described, without weights but with two each 5 mg and 0.5 mg riders, replacement bulb, four cushioned balance rests and cord and plug with snap switch. For 115 volts, a.c. only 718.00 A dependable Balance is the fundamental instrument for use in Microchemistry. ARTHUR H. BALANCE, MICRO, Ainsworth Type FDI. A rugged and robust precision balance with optical lever reading device which provides great magnification of beam deflection without the use of a reading lens and without danger of errors due to parallax. Readings are made directly to 0.001 mg on the optical lever scale without interpolation or estimation.
