Ayurveda Doctor Awards 2010

T rivandrum : The government-instituted BestAy urveda Doctor award for the y ear 2010 wasgiven away at the Kanakakkunnu Palace Auditoriumearlier today . Health Minister P K Sreemathiinaugurated the function along with MLA VSivankutty and the senior most award winner Dr.Mattakkara Ramachandran Nair.

For his lifetime contributions to the field ofAy urveda, Dr. Mattakkara Ramachandran Nair, theChief Consultant at the Centre for Holistic Medicineat the Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, washonoured with the Ashtangaratna. Dr. Susheela Saji,reputed for her successful treatment of cancer andsickle cell anemia, was the recipient of the Vagbhataaward.

Senior medical officer at the Venganur GovernmentAy urveda hospital, Dr. G Shy amakrishnan receivedthe Charaka award. HOD of the Saly atantradepartment of Government Ay urveda College atThripunithura, Dr. K B Sudhikumar won the Aatrey aaward. Edakkad Naray anan Vaidy ar, who had translatedAy urvedic Literature like Charaka Samhita andSushruta Samhita from Sanskrit to Malay alam, wasawarded a special award by the State Government. Dr.K Surendran Nair, Dr. P Sankarankutty , Dr. MGovindan and Dr. R Ramabhadran were recipients ofspecial awards for their contributions to Ay urveda.

These awards are being distributed since 2006 as partof a government scheme for the propagation ofAy urveda. Along with Dhanvantari, Charaka,Vagbhata and Aatrey a, Ashtangaratna in 2007 and afew special awards were added to this list in 2009.
