Svākkhāto Bhagavatā Dhammo, sandiṭṭhiko, akāliko,
sxv]kxK][t]x Bgvt] Dmz[m]x, snxýñzòq[k]x, ak]Æ[k]x, The Dhamma has been well-proclaimed by the Fortunate One, it is visible, not subject to time,
ehipassiko, opanayiko, paccattaṁ veditabbo viññūhī ti.
exh¹psxs¹[k]x, ozpny¹[k]x, pczctxtM [vzýtbz[b]x Ò¤x®hº t¹. inviting inspection, onward leading, and can be understood by the wise for themselves.

sāmīcipaṭipanno Bhagavato sāvakasaṅgho,
s]ÐÈp‚pnx[n]x Bgv[t]x s]vksïz[G]x, the Fortunate One’s Saṅgha of disciples are correct in their practice,
yad-idaṁ cattāri purisayugāni aṭṭha purisapuggalā,
yýdM ctxt]ø puøsyug]n¹ añzò puøspugxgl], that is to say, the four pairs of persons, the eight individual persons,
esa Bhagavato sāvakasaṅgho,
exs Bgv[t]x s]vksïz[G]x, this is the Fortunate One’s Saṅgha of disciples,
āhuneyyo, pāhuneyyo, dakkhiṇeyyo, añjalikaranīyo,
a]hu[nxy[Y]x, p]hu[nxy[Y]x, dkx¯[Nxy[Y]x, a¤xjÆkrNQ[y]x, they are worthy of offerings, of hospitality, of gifts, and of reverential salutation,
anuttaraṁ puññakkhettaṁ lokassā ti.
anutxtrM pu¤x¤kx[KtxtM [l]xksxs] t¹. they are an unsurpassed field of merit for the world.
Evaṁ Buddhaṁ sarantānaṁ, Dhammaṁ Saṅghañ-ca bhikkhavo,
exvM budxDM srnxt]nM, DmzmM sïzG¤xc B¹kxK[v]x, Thus for those who remember the Buddha, the Dhamma, or the Saṅgha, monks,
bhayaṁ vā chambhitattaṁ vā, lomahaṁso na hessatī” ti. [4]

Evaṁ me sutaṁ:
exvM [mz sutM: Thus I have heard:
ekaṁ samayaṁ Bhagavā Sāvatthiyaṁ viharati
exkM smyM Bgv] s]vtxTqyMÒhrt¹ at one time the Fortunate One was dwelling near Sāvatthi
Jetavane Anāthapiṇḍikassa ārāme.
[jXtv[nx an]Tp¹Nxマksxs a]r][mz. at Anāthapiṇḍika’s grounds in Jeta’s Wood.
Atha kho aññatarā devatā abhikkantāya rattiyā,
aT [K]x a¤x¤tr] [dxvt] aB¹kxknxt]y rtxt¹y], Then a certain god, towards the end of the night,
abhikkantavaṇṇā kevalakappaṁ Jetavanaṁ obhāsetvā,
aB¹kxknxtvNxN] [kxvlkpxpM [jXtvnM ozB][stxv], whose surpassing beauty lit up the whole of Jeta’s Wood,
yena Bhagavā tenupasaṅkami,
[yxn Bgv] [txnupsïzk½, approached the Fortunate One,
upasaṅkamitvā Bhagavantaṁ abhivādetvā, ekam-antaṁ aṭṭhāsi.
Vpsïzk½txv] BgvnxtM aB¹v][dtxv] exkmnxtM añzò]s¹. and after approaching and worshipping the Fortunate One, he stood on one side.
Ekam-antaṁ ṭhitā kho sā devatā Bhagavantaṁ gāthāya ajjhabhāsi:
exkmnxtM òqt] [K]x s] [dxvt] BgvnxtM g]T]y ajXJB]s¹: While standing on one side that god addressed the Fortunate One with a verse:

“Bahū devā manussā ca maṅgalāni acintayuṁ
"bhU [dxv] mnusxs] c mïzgl]n¹ aÈnxtyuM “Many are the gods and the men who have thought about the blessings
Ākaṅkhamānā sotthānaṁ: brūhi maṅgalam-uttamaṁ.” [1]
a]kïzKm]n] [s]txT]nM: bR}h¹ mïzglmutxtmM." Hoping for safety: now please say what is the supreme blessing.”
“Asevanā ca bālānaṁ, paṇḍitānañ-ca sevanā,
"a[sxvn] c b]l]nM, pNxマt]n¤xc [sxvn], “Not associating with fools, but associating with the wise,
Pūjā ca pūjanīyānaṁ: etaṁ maṅgalam-uttamaṁ. [2]
pUj] c pUjnºy]nM: extM mïzglmutxtmM. Honouring those worthy of honour: this is the supreme blessing.
Paṭirūpadesavāso ca, pubbe ca katapuññatā,
pt¹r}p[dxsv][s]x c, pubz[bz c ktpu¤x¤t], Living in a suitable place, formerly having done good deeds,
Attasammāpaṇidhi ca: etaṁ maṅgalam-uttamaṁ. [3]
atxtsmzm]pNqŒ c: extM mïzglmutxtmM. Aspiring in a right way oneself: this is the supreme blessing.
Bāhusaccañ-ca sippañ-ca, vinayo ca susikkhito,
b]husczc¤xc s¹pxp¤xc, ~Òn[y]x c sus¹kx¯[t]x, Having great learning and craft, and being disciplined and well trained,
Subhāsitā ca yā vācā: etaṁ maṅgalam-uttamaṁ. [4]
suB]s¹t] c y] v]c]: extM mïzglmutxtmM. And whatever words are well spoken: this is the supreme blessing.
Mātāpitu-upaṭṭhānaṁ, puttadārassa saṅgaho,
m]t]p¹tå-Vpñzò]nM, putxt¸rsxs sïzg[h]x, Attendance on one's mother and father, looking after one’s wife and children,
Anākulā ca kammantā: etaṁ maṅgalam-uttamaṁ. [5]
an]kål] c kmzmnxt]: extM mïzglmutxtmM. With works that are not agitating: this is the supreme blessing.

Dānañ-ca Dhammacariyā ca, ñātakānañ-ca saṅgaho,
¸n¤xc Dmzmcøy] c, ¤]tk]n¤xc sïzg[h]x, Giving, and living by the Dhamma, and looking after one’s relatives,
Anavajjāni kammāni: etaṁ maṅgalam-uttamaṁ. [6]
anvjXj]n¹ kmzm]n¹: extM mïzglmutxtmM. (Performing) actions that are blameless: this is the supreme blessing.
Ārati virati pāpā, majjapānā ca saññamo,
a]rt¹Òrt¹ p]p], mjXjp]n] c s¤x¤[m]x, Abstinence, avoidance of bad deeds, restraint from intoxicating drink,
Appamādo ca dhammesu: etaṁ maṅgalam-uttamaṁ. [7]
apxpm][d]x c Dmz[mzsu: extM mïzglmutxtmM. Being heedful regarding (all) things: this is the supreme blessing.
Gāravo ca nivāto ca, santuṭṭhī ca kataññutā,
g]r[v]x c n¹v][t]x c, snxtåñzòQ c kt¤xt], Having respect, being humble, being satisfied and grateful,
Kālena Dhammasavaṇaṁ: etaṁ maṅgalam-uttamaṁ. [8]
k][lxn DmzmsvNM: extM mïzglmutxtmM. Listening to Dhamma at the right time: this is the supreme blessing.
Khantī ca sovacassatā, samaṇānañ-ca dassanaṁ,
Knxtº c [s]xvcsxst], smN]n¤xc dsxsnM, Being patient and easily spoken to, seeing ascetics,
Kālena Dhammasākacchā: etaṁ maṅgalam-uttamaṁ. [9]
k][lxn Dmzms]kczC]: extM mïzglmutxtmM. Discussing Dhamma at the right time: this is the supreme blessing.
Tapo ca brahmacariyañ-ca, ariyasaccānadassanaṁ,
t[p]x c bRhxmcøy¤xc, aøysczc]ndsxsnM, Austere, living spiritually, insight into the noble truths,
Nibbānasacchikiriyā ca: etaṁ maṅgalam-uttamaṁ. [10]
n¹bzb]nsczC¹k¹øy] c: extM mïzglmutxtmM] The experience of Nibbāna: this is the supreme blessing.

Phuṭṭhassa lokadhammehi, cittaṁ yassa na kampati,
Puñzòsxs [l]xkDmz[mzh¹, ÈtxtM ysxs n kmzpt¹, He whose mind does not waver, when it is touched by things of this world,
Asokaṁ virajaṁ khemaṁ: etaṁ maṅgalam-uttamaṁ. [11]
a[s]xkMÒrjM [KzmM: extM mïzglmutxtmM. (being) griefless, dustless, and secure: this is the supreme blessing.
Etādisāni katvāna, sabbattha-m-aparājitā,
ext]ýs]n¹ ktxv]n, sbzbtxTmpr]jqt], Having done as here directed, they are undefeated everywhere,
sabbattha sotthiṁ gacchanti: taṁ tesaṁ maṅgalam-uttaman”-ti. [12]
sbzbtxT [s]txTqM gczCnxt¹: tM [txsM mïzglmutxtmnxt¹. They go everywhere in safety: for them this is the supreme blessing.”

rtnsutxtM The Discourse on the Treasures
Yānīdha bhūtāni samāgatāni, Bhummāni vā yāni va antalikkhe,
y]nºD Bæt]n¹ sm]gt]n¹, Båmzm]n¹ v] y]n¹ v anxtL¹kx[Kz, Whatever beings have come together here, whether of the earth or in the firmament,
Sabbe va bhūtā sumanā bhavantu, atho pi sakkacca suṇantu bhāsitaṁ. [1]
sbz[bz v Bæt] sumn] Bvnxtå, a[T]x p¹ skxkczc suNnxtå B]s¹tM. May the minds of all those beings be happy, and may they listen carefully to what is said.
Tasmā hi bhūtā nisāmetha sabbe, mettaṁ karotha mānusiyā pajāya,
tsxm] h¹ Bæt] n¹s][mzT sbz[bz, [mtxtM k[r]xT m]nus¹y] pj]y, Therefore, all of you beings, be attentive, be friendly towards this generation of men,
Divā ca ratto ca haranti ye baliṁ, tasmā hi ne rakkhatha appamattā. [2]
ýv] c rtx[t]x c hrnxt¹ [yx bÆM, tsxm] h¹ [nx rkxKT apxpmtxt]. They who bring offerings by day and by night, therefore, being heedful, you must protect them.
Yaṁ kiñci vittaṁ - idha vā huraṁ vā saggesu vā - yaṁ ratanaṁ paṇītaṁ
yM k¹¤ÈÒtxtM - iD v] hurM v] sgx[gxsu v] - yM rtnM pNQtM Whatever riches there are - here or elsewhere or in the heavens - that excellent treasure
Na no samaṁ atthi Tathāgatena idam-pi Buddhe ratanaṁ paṇītaṁ:
n [n]x smM atxTq tT]g[txn idmzp¹ budx[Dz rtnM pNQtM: Is not equal unto the Realised One this excellent treasure is in the Buddha:
Etena saccena suvatthi hotu! [3]
ex[txn scz[czn suvtxTq [h]xtå! By virtue of this truth may there be safety!
Khayaṁ virāgaṁ amataṁ paṇītaṁ yad-ajjhagā Sakyamunī samāhito,
KyMÒr]gM amtM pNQtM ydjXJg] skYmunº sm]h¹[t]x, (Craving’s) end, dispassion, deathlessness, excellence which the concentrated Sakyan sage attained,

Na tena dhammena samatthi kiñci idam-pi Dhamme ratanaṁ paṇītaṁ:
n [txn Dmz[mzn smtxTq k¹¤È idmzp¹ Dmz[mz rtnM pNQtM: There is nothing that is equal to that state this excellent treasure is in the Dhamma:
Etena saccena suvatthi hotu! [4]
ex[txn scz[czn suvtxTq [h]xtå! By virtue of this truth may there be safety!
Yam-Buddhaseṭṭho parivaṇṇayī suciṁ samādhim-ānantarikañ-ñam-āhu,
ymzbudxD[sñz[ò]x pøvNxNyº suÈM sm]Œm]nnxtøk¤x¤m]hu, That which the Buddha, the Great One, praised as pure, the concentration said to have prompt (result),
Samādhinā tena samo na vijjati idam-pi Dhamme ratanaṁ paṇītaṁ:
sm]Œn] [txn s[m]x nÒjXjt¹ idmzp¹ Dmz[mz rtnM pNQtM: No equal to that concentration is found, this excellent treasure is in the Dhamma:
Etena saccena suvatthi hotu! [5]
ex[txn scz[czn suvtxTq [h]xtå! By virtue of this truth may there be safety!
Ye puggalā aṭṭha sataṁ pasatthā cattāri etāni yugāni honti,
[yx pugxgl] añzò stM pstxT] ctxt]ø ext]n¹ yug]n¹ [h]nxt¹, Those eight individuals praised by the good there are these four pairs (of individuals),
Te dakkhiṇeyyā Sugatassa sāvakā, etesu dinnāni mahapphalāni,
[tx dkx¯[NyY] sugtsxs s]vk], ex[txsu ýnxn]n¹ mhpxPl]n¹, Those disciples of the Happy One are worthy of gifts, those things that have been given to them have great fruit,
Idam-pi Saṅghe ratanaṁ paṇītaṁ: etena saccena suvatthi hotu! [6]
idmzp¹ sïz[Gx rtnM pNQtM: ex[txn scz[czn suvtxTq [h]xtå! This excellent treasure is in the Saṅgha: by virtue of this truth may there be safety!
Ye suppayuttā manasā daḷhena nikkāmino Gotamasāsanamhi,
[yx supxpyutxt] mns] dLx[hxn n¹kxk]½[n]x [g]xtms]snmzh¹, Those who have firm and devoted minds, without sense desire in Gotama's dispensation,

Te pattipattā amataṁ vigayha laddhā mudhā nibbutiṁ bhuñjamānā,
[tx ptxt¹ptxt] amtMÒgyxh ldxD] muD] n¹bzbut¹M Bå¤xjm]n], Those who have attained, and entered the deathless, are enjoying emancipation, gained for free.
Idam-pi Saṅghe ratanaṁ paṇītaṁ: etena saccena suvatthi hotu! [7]
idmzp¹ sïz[Gx rtnM pNQtM: ex[txn scz[czn suvtxTq [h]xtå! This excellent treasure is in the Saṅgha: by virtue of this truth may there be safety!
Yathindakhīlo paṭhaviṁ sito siyā catubbhi vātehi asampakampiyo,
yTqnxd°[l]x pòÒM s¹[t]x s¹y] ctåbzB¹ v][txh¹ asmzpkmzp¹[y]x, Just as a locking post stuck fast in the earth does not waver on account of the four winds,
Tathūpamaṁ sappurisaṁ vadāmi, yo ariyasaccāni avecca passati,
tTUpmM spxpuøsM v¸½, [y]x aøysczc]n¹ a[vczc psxst¹, In the same way, I say, is the true person, the one who sees the noble truths completely,
Idam-pi Saṅghe ratanaṁ paṇītaṁ: etena saccena suvatthi hotu! [8]
idmzp¹ sïz[Gx rtnM pNQtM: ex[txn scz[czn suvtxTq [h]xtå! This excellent treasure is in the Saṅgha: by virtue of this truth may there be safety!
Ye ariyasaccāni vibhāvayanti, gambhīrapaññena sudesitāni,
[yx aøysczc]n¹ÒB]vynxt¹, gmzBºrp¤x[¤xn su[dxs¹t]n¹, Those who clearly distinguish the noble truths, which were well preached by the one with deep wisdom,
Kiñcāpi te honti bhusappamattā na te bhavaṁ aṭṭhamaṁ ādiyanti,
k¹¤xc]p¹ [tx [h]nxt¹ Båspxpmtxt] n [tx BvM añzòmM a]ýynxt¹, However great they become in heedlessness still they do not take up an eighth existence,
Idam-pi Saṅghe ratanaṁ paṇītaṁ: etena saccena suvatthi hotu! [9]
idmzp¹ sïz[Gx rtnM pNQtM: ex[txn scz[czn suvtxTq [h]xtå! This excellent treasure is in the Saṅgha: by virtue of this truth may there be safety!
Sahā vassa dassanasampadāya tayassu dhammā jahitā bhavanti:
sh] vsxs dsxsnsmzp¸y tysxsu Dmzm] jh¹t] Bvnxt¹: With his attainment of (liberating) insight there are a triad of things that are given up:

Sakkāyadiṭṭhi vicikicchitañ-ca sīlabbataṁ vāpi yad-atthi kiñci.
skxk]yýñzòqÒÈk¹czC¹t¤xc sºlbzbtM v] p¹ ydtxTq k¹¤È. Embodiment view, uncertainty, and whatever (grasping at) virtue and practices there is.
Catūhapāyehi ca vippamutto, cha cābhiṭhānāni abhabbo kātuṁ,
ctæhp][yxh¹ cÒpxpmutx[t]x, C c]B¹ò]n]n¹ aBbz[b]x k]tåM, He is free from (rebirth in) the four lower worlds, he is incapable of the six great crimes.
Idam-pi Saṅghe ratanaṁ paṇītaṁ: etena saccena suvatthi hotu! [10]
idmzp¹ sïz[Gx rtnM pNQtM: ex[txn scz[czn suvtxTq [h]xtå! This excellent treasure is in the Saṅgha: by virtue of this truth may there be safety!
Kiñcāpi so kammaṁ karoti pāpakaṁ kāyena vācā uda cetasā vā,
k¹¤xc]p¹ [s]x kmzmM k[r]xt¹ p]pkM k][yxn v]c] Vd [czts] v], Whatever bad action there is that he performs by way of body, or of speech, or of mind,
Abhabbo so tassa paṭicchādāya abhabbatā diṭṭhapadassa vuttā,
aBbz[b]x [s]x tsxs p‚czC]¸y: aBbzbt] ýñzòpdsxs vutxt], He is incapable of covering it up: this incapacity is said of one who has seen the state
(of peace),
Idam-pi Saṅghe ratanaṁ paṇītaṁ: etena saccena suvatthi hotu! [11]
