Reactions 1172 - 6 Oct 2007 Citalopram Dysosmia: case report A 17-year-old boy was diagnosed with a major depressive disorder and started receiving citalopram 10 mg [frequency not stated], which was increased to 20mg [frequency not stated] after 10 days. His citalopram dosage was further increased to 40 mg/day as he had no significant improvement in symptoms. Approximately 7 weeks after citalopram initiation, he developed a sense of unfavourable and intolerable smell. Physical examination did not reveal any underlying cause. After about 9 weeks of citalopram therapy, the medication was tapered, and 6 days after citalopram cessation, the smell disappeared. Ghanizadeh A. Unfavorable smell with citalopram?
