    introduction

    Brijmohan Lall Munjalis an Indian businessman and

    the chairman of Hero Group, which include Hero

    Cycles and Hero MotoCorp.

    He is one of the richest people in India.

    He was a founder of $3.2 billion hero group.

    Early life

    Brijmohan Lall Munjal was born in 1923 at Kamalia,

    in unpartitioned Punjab, British India.

    He was from a simple middle-class

    Arora/Khatrifamily.

    After completing his formal education he worked at

    the Army Ordnance Factory.

    Career

    At the age of 20, his family sensed partition,

    so Brijmohan with his family came to India

    and settled in Amritsar. The brothers initially

    started a vegetable business in Amritsar.

    From that point after working from army

    ordinance factory B.L. Munjal also join to their

    family business.

    The turning point

    Munjal started its family business with hisbrother but their heart they did not like thatbusiness and always wanted to do some thingbig.

    At that point bicycle was new vehicle in Indianmarket and specifically in Punjab region.

    Bicycle was available but there were no specificfacilities of its parts.

    B.L. decided to make it in India because skillworker are available at cheaper rate because theyare from unorganized sector.

    Contniue.

    Idea of business came in the mind of mr. Munjal,

    he thinks that if I organized him and provide them

    employment opprotunity than it is helpful to

    both. In 1956,Punjab government, issued tender

    notices for new industrial license to produce

    bicycles in Ludhiana. They won the contract from Punjab Government

    and it was partially financed by Punjab Govt.

    The journey begins

    From April 1956, Hero cycle was established. export large number of cycle from India

    In 1975, largest manufacturer of bicycle of India.

    In 1986, enters into The Guinness Book Of worldrecord as the largest manufacturer of bicycle inthe world.

    A brand new opportunity

    A first moped introduce in the indian market

    by the Bajaj Group in 1972 called Bajaj

    Chetak.

    It was a new opportunity for the hero group,

    so Mr. Munjal started The Majestic Auto Ltd. in

    1973, and started manufacturing Hero

    Mejestic Moped in India.

    To manufacture motorcycle in India, due to

    lower technological option they started a joint

    venture with Honda group of Japan.

    Their first model which is most success in its

    history was CD 100.

    The end of JV

    In Aug 2011, Hero and Hondas JV broke up, itsprovide opportunity to the group to expand itsmarket from its own.

    No doubt it is under the chairmanship of Mr.Pavan Munjal but it is an end of a most successfulJV ever in the history of Indian market.

    The foundation led by Mr. Munjal became ahistorical building and its construction going onday by day.

    Philanthropic activity

    Mr. B.L.Munjal has established BML UNIVRSITY inpartnership with some of the world's mostreputed universities and companies.

    The group has established Charitable hospitals,schools and colleges, medical camps, vocationaland skills training for communities around NorthIndia.

    Adult Literacy Mission Launched on 21stSeptember, 1999.

    Awards and recognition He was awarded after 10 year of JV with Honda Group as Businessman of the Yearin 1994.

    Received the National Award for outstanding contribution to the Development of Indian Small

    Scale Industryin 1995.

    In 1999 Featured in Most Admired CEOList of the magazine "Business Barons".

    Received The Distinguished Entrepreneurship Award from The PHD Chamber of Commerce andIndustry in 1997.

    Featured as Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the yearin 2001.

    Received The Lifetime Achievement award for "Management" from All India ManagementAssociation in 2003.

    Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi conferred him with a Doctorate; degree of "Doctors of letters"Honoris Causa in October 2004.

    Awarded "Padma Bhushan"in March 2005 for his contribution toTrade and Industry in 2005.
