    After install ing FlyTampa-HongKong, FS sti l l loads the default VHHX Airport.

    Please add FlyTampa-HongKong to your scenery database by cl icking . There cl ick the button and choose the folder /AddonScenery/FlyTampa-HongKong . FS2004 Note: You need to restart FS200 4 for the changesto take ef fect .

    Kai-Tak is deserted of Aircraft.

    Simplest solut ion: Enable the Stat ic Aircraf t Opt ion dur ing instal lat ion. This wil l f i l l theairport with Air l iners specif ical ly designed for Kai-Tak.

    AI Traff ic for Kai-Tak.

    Kai-Tak has been closed since 1998 and is therefore not included in the f l ight schedulesof the default Fl ight Simulator as well as modern AI packages such as Ult imate-Traff ic,MyTraff ic, World-of-AI etc. There are however several simple solut ions to get AI t raf f ic tothe airport , please see the sect ion AI Traf f ic for Kai-Tak.

    Checkerboard is too small & IGS approach path & l ights are misplaced.

    We highly recommended the fol lowing video for real VS. vir tual comparisons. Thecheckerboard i tself , the hi l l i t was mounted on, as well as the approach l ight ing have been

    careful ly designed and posit ioned. The expectat ion to see a much larger checkerboard isl ikely related to this element having been oversized in several Kai-Tak sceneries since theFS 2000 era.

    Trees have rendering problems in FS2004.

    Autogen trees can cause a temporary graphics g l i tch as they fade- in. I f you see apermanent halo or corona type ef fect arou nd trees, make sure to use default FS200 4 treesor convert your t ree textures to DXT1 format. Fi les: FS9/texture/ t reesSU.bmp,treesSP.bmp, t reesFA.bmp, t reesWI.bmp, t reesHW.bmp.

    Some AI aircraft dont land on the runway centerl ine.

    Each AI aircraf t f l ies the IGS approach dif ferent ly according to the Fl ight Dynamics in i ts aircraf t .cfg f i le. This was also the case at the real Kai-Tak with var ious air l iners using

    sl ight ly dif ferent procedures. Some AI models wil l have dif f iculty al igning to the runway int ime and land on a t i l ted angle etc. This varying behavior makes AI landings at Kai-Takvery interest ing to watch.

    Jetways wont move in FSX.

    Instal l the scenery with the opt ion Stat ic Jetways disabled.

    Airport tarmac/ground appears grey at night in FSX.

    I f you use FSXs DirectX-10 Preview mode you must instal l the scenery in SDK-Compliance Mode.

    IGS approach l ighting is too dim.

    I f you wish to intensify the approach l ights, simply create one or more duplicates (copy &paste) of the f i le _kt_appr13_lights.BGL within the folder: /Addon Scenery/FlyTampa-HongKong/scenery/

    Runway and PAPI l ights are too small & dim in FSX.

    Instal l the scenery in SDK-Compliance Mode for br ighter runway l ight ing.

    Cant obtain clearance when holding at the runway entrances.

    The hold-marking in this scenery have been placed at their real-world posit ions, which aretoo far f rom the runway for the FS engine to hand le. The solut ion is to ta xi closer to therunway unt i l c learance can be obtained.

    AI-Traff ic jams.

    When runway 31 is used AI t raf f ic congest ions can easily occur. This is a naturall imitat ion of Kai-Taks taxiway layout that the AI engine cannot overcome. Fortunately,runway 31 is used very rarely i f you rely on real world weather.

    AI-Ships dont show or move.

    For AI-Ships to work you must enable GA-Traff ic within FS Sett ings. AI-Ships wil l beginmoving immediately i f yo u set the t ime within the f irst 14 minutes of every hou r, orbetween 30 to 44 minutes. Note that not al l sh ips within this scener y move.

    When are Fireworks displayed?

    Firework displays are sch eduled for the f irst 10 minutes of every h our start ing at 8 PMunt i l 12 PM.

    What FS2004 f i les are copied besides /Addon Scenery/FlyTampa-HongKong?

    FS2004/scenery/name/scenery/HP978240.bgl. Note: Original f i le renamed toHP978240.bak. Depeding on the opt ions you select dur ing instal lat ion f i les wil l also becopied to the /ef fects/ and /aircraf t / folders.

    Because of the variety of AI-Addons that exist for Flight Simulator, i t is notpossible for us to provide a one-f its-all solut ion. Below you wil l f ind severaloptions, some of which can be implemented with only a few mouse-clicks.

    World of AI

    Pre-compiled traf f ic for use with WoAI is available for download at the FlyTampaForums (ht tp: / /www.f lytampa.org/ forum).

    Ultimate Traff ic

    Traff ic Redirect ion within Ult imate Traf f ic for FS2004 or FSX can be performed withthis simple procedure: Press Ut i l i t ies, then Airports. In the Search box enter VHHHand press Search. Next enter VHHX in the Assignment Ident if ier f ield and pressSave. Final ly press Compile.

    MyTraff icX

    For version 5.1b of MyTraff icX schedules can be downloaded and instal led into the/MyTraffcic/Scenery/ fo lder. ht tp: / /www.fsrai l .com/VHHX-EGLC.rar

    Version 5.2 of MyTraff icX wil l introduce traf f ic for KaiTak out of the box.

    Custom or generic Traff ic

    1. Simplest solut ion for FSX: Download and instal l Kai Tak (VHHX) AI Flight Plans by

    Jim Vile. It provides pre-compiled Traffic using FSXs default aircraft as well as Flightplansamples for use with 3rd party AI aircraft. Note that default FSX aircraft used as AI will

    2. Redirect ing your exist in g Traf f ic f rom Hong Kongs new airport (VHHH) to Kai-Tak . Toperform the redirect ion of t raf f ic f rom VHHH to VHHX you must f irst decomp ile your mainTraff ic BGL f i le (FS/scenery/world/scenery/) . Two of the three result ing TXT f i les must beedited as fol lows: In Airports***. txt insert l ine VHHX,N22* 19.01',E114* 12.11',0. Opt ionalremove the exist ing l ine containing the VHHH entry. Save the f i le. In Fl ightplans***. txt usethe Search & Replace funct ion to replace al l VHHH instances with VHHX. Save the f i le anrecompile your Traf f ic BGL.

    3. VHHX Kai Tak by Kevin Schlnkes provides Flightplans based on 1998 schedules. This requires that you hAI models from AI Aardvark, Evolve AI, etc. as well as proper repaints and knowledge about editing and compTraffic. ht tp: / / l ibrary.avsim.net/esearch.php?DLID=97661

    Whichever option you choose, keep in mind that creating addit ional schedules for Kai-Twithout redirecting or disabling the exist ing Chep Lak Kok traff ic wil l result in increasedtraff ic not only in the Hong Kong area but also at other airports around the world.

    F S X M O D E S

    The FSX version of Kai-Tak can operate in two different Modes: SDK-Compliant Mode & Non-SDKMode. The mode is set during installation and can be changed anytime by running the Kai-Takinstallation program again.

    The Non-SDK Modeuses custom ground textures to provide detailed airport pavement, centerlines,markings, stains, skidmarks etc. These items cannot be created using the FSX-SDK and have to rely onFSXs backwards-compatibility to the FS 2002 SDK. This Non-SDK Mode is not compatible with FSXsDirectX-10 Preview and will result in much slower performance depending on your Graphics Card 3Dsettings. Specifically, you should run the Non-SDK Mode with AA set to Multisampling 4X or 8X. If youuse Supersampling or Combined AA modes FSX performance will decrease dramatically when theairport is in view. See the FSX Recommended Settings section.

    The SDK-Compliance Modeuses FSXs own runway, aprons and taxiway features and is therefore fullyFSX-SP2 compliant. This Mode can perform over twice the frames-per-second compared to the Non-SDK mode and features brighter runway lighting. If you run FSXs DirectX-10 Preview you must selectthe SDK-Compliance Option for the scenery to display properly at night. If you wont be flying into Kai-Tak itself but wish to use Hong Kong as a city scenery, you should also install this mode.

    Note the Mode selection only affects the airport ground textures. All 3D objects andother features of the Scenery are ful ly FSX-SP2 Compliant in either mode.

    Hong Kong performance varies a lot depending on the options you select during installation as well asyour Graphics Cards Settings. The scenery can run as slow as 10 fps with all options checked, while onthe same computer it may be setup to run at 30 fps without loosing any of the 3D buildings. As referenceperformance at Hong Kong should be higher or at least similar to FSXs default large airports such asKSFO , KSEA, EGLL, EDDF, etc., given the same settings are used.

    Some of the most performance demanding features have been disabled by default during installation.Namely: Static Aircraft, Animated AI-Ships and Autogen Trees. Additional options that can be uncheckedto increase performance are: Animated Vehicles and Fireworks FX. Note that you can run the installationprogram as often as needed while changing the Install Options to achieve best results.

    Sliders should be within the green marked areas. Red will result in either poor graphics quality or poorperformance. It is recommended you use your Graphics Cards Anti-Aliasing setting instead of FSXs in-game Anti-Aliasing, with a setting of Multisampling 4X or 8X. Ground Scenery Shadows is recommendedOFF because FSX-SP2 introduces many rendering problems not only in Addon Scenery, but in defaultScenery as well when this option is enabled.

    If you install Kai-Tak in Non-SDK mode (with custom ground polygons), it is essential that you setNvidias Anit-Aliasing to Multisampling using either the Nvidia Control Panel or nHancer.

    FS2004: Parts of the city buildings disappear when Autogen is set to OFF (sl ider tothe left).

    FS2004: Scenery objects are not visible when using Top-down view along withcertain Camera Zoom factors.

    FSX: Non-SDK Mode is not compatible with DirectX-10 Preview. You must installthe scenery in SDK-Compliance mode if you use DirectX-10 Preview.

    FSX: Airport pavement is completely dark at night in SDK-Compliance mode.

    FS2004 & FSX: Because taxiways at Kai-Tak are very t ight, large AI aircraft mayhave their front wheel in the grass deepening on which runway exit is used.
