Reactions 417 - 5 Sep 1992 S Imipramine overdose Ischaemic colitis: case report Ischaemic colitis developed in a 48-year-old man after an overdose of alcohol and imipramine [quantity not stated]. On admission, the patient was comatose and hypotensive with no urinary output. The next day he was observed to have abdominal distention and absent bowel sounds. Laparotomy revealed that the colon was cyanosed, with gangrene of the sigmoid colon which was almost perforated. A left hemicolectomy was performed after which the patient recovered fully.
