State Project Facilitation Unit (SPFU), Department of
Technical Education, Karnataka in collaboration with
‘National Institute for Technical Teachers Training &
Research (NITTTR)’, Chandigarh organised one week
ICT enabled online short term course on Instructional
Delivery, a pedagogical training first of its kind
National Program from 27-06-2016 to 01-07-2016 for
the benefit of the faculty of State Government/aided
Polytechnics and Engineering Colleges of Karnataka

On 23
rd June 2016 Sri Basavaraj Rayareddi, Hon’ble
Minister for Higher Education called meeting of all the
departments of Higher Education in his chanmber at
Vidhana Soudha to discuss about the Department.

Weekly video conferencing held on 20.06.2016. Additional
Chief secretary, Sri Bharat lal Meena addressing all the
VCs, Registrars and other heads of the departments of all the
universities along with Sri H. U. Talawar, Director, DTE,
Sri Chakravarthy Mohan, Commisioner, Dept. of Colligiate
Education and Sri S. A. Kori, Executive Director, KHEC.
The Aidditional Chief Secretary discussed about online
admission, beginning of academic activities, action plan of
RUSA funds, other projects as well as state project and
visiting SC/ST hostels to supervise the basic amenities and
quality of food served to SC/ST Students. Further he advised
all the heads of the institutions to depute staff members on
rotation basis to sit and eat food with the students and give
the feedback of the quality of the food.

Skill Development in Higher
Education. India is moving progressively
towards becoming a ‘knowledge economy. It
becomes increasingly important that the country should
focus on advancement of skills and these skills have to
be relevant to the emerging economic environment. The
continuing development of new skills and knowledge
throughout life is valuable for individuals and essential
for the economy. Over 65% population of India is
below 35 years. While major world countries move
towards aging, India is growing younger. This may turn
into dividend if youths become skilled. Governments
across the world are realising with growing clarity that
it is not sufficient to expand universities. Even highly
skilled professionals need work structures which allow
them to go on expanding their abilities.
Industry has to play an important role in developing
skilled youth as part of the national skill development
mission. Need of trainers and a lot of support from the
industry to push the skill development programme. This
is also important from the viewpoint of increasing the
gross enrolment ratio (GER).
It is time to equip India’s youth with more skills and
proficiencies. Youth of this country is raring to go and
realize the development dreams of this formidable
India. When the technology has altered the measures of
management and development, the youth of India needs
to be equipped with varied skills required in the wake
of the changes that are taking place the world over.
India as a nation has everything; youths, intellectual
properties, skills and craftsmen abilities and demand for
skilled manpower for the development, but, it lacks
seriousness of involving all these and make them a
responsible for the progress. The way we gave
importance to higher education in IIM and IIT, today
we need to give similar importance to skill
development. The share of manufacturing sector in
India’s economy is decisive and to capture the world
market with zero defect productions and low-cost
manufacturing, it is equally important to empower the
skill development sector.
Not only government agencies and system can
accomplish the task of upskilling the youth, Private
companies with requisite experience in skills training
may also be roped in to impede the process of
enhancing the skills development of youth in colleges
and universities. In today’s world, particularly in India,
the future and relevance of Higher Education is
inextricably linked with Skills Development; Higher
Education accepts this and acts accordingly, the better
it is for the country and its growth. Skills Development
is not an additional course that can be added to a
University curriculum but it requires to be integrated
into the training and education of a youth who will have
to be readily employable and competent enough to run
the operations of a company or business in India.
A youth seeking job in the market today is expected to
have soft skills which he/she has no clue about till
he/she faces an interview. Higher Education does little
to address the skills requirement of a youth raring to go
into the world and make a mark. There is a need for a
clear focus on improving the employability of
graduates.
AACC (American Association of Community
Colleges) and AICTE have signed an MoU exploring
avenues of collaboration in skills development, in areas
such as standards, qualification frameworks, and
certification, as well as knowledge exchanges.
As per the Statistics, out of 280 lac students across the
country only 108 lac students cleared 10th Board exam
in three years back. It means nearly 50% students failed
and many students discontinued their education after
failing in 10th or 12thBoard exams. Such students start
working as skilled manpower but do not get a chance to
grow due to lack of certification.
The main objective of National Skill Qualification
Framework is to bridge skill gap and provide trained
manpower to various emerging service sectors to India
apart from striving towards skilled manpower to
diversify sector through short term, structured job
oriented courses. This scheme will not only prepare the
youth for a vocation of their choice but would also
build a formidable workforce of international quality
not only in India but also in other countries. The
scheme also focuses reducing unemployment by
supplying world class skilled manpower, thereby
reducing cost and improving productivity of services
and manufacturing by providing skilled manpower to
international standards. Further the credit framework
for skill assessment has also been launched by AICTE,
paving way for easy mobility across the country. It is
certainly the need of hour to rope in all such drop outs
and equip them with knowledge and skills, certify their
skills and contribute to enhancement of GER at national

The Transformation of Technical
Edcuation
The technical education system in the
country has grown into a fairly large
system in the last decade, offering opportunities to
aspiring students in a wide variety of disciplines at
different levels.
Quality is dynamic concept that needs to be reviewed
and redefined from time to time. We must collectively
work and strive hard to achieve global standards of
technical education. Global standards are of great
relevance, today, especially as India has a demographic
advantage in its favour. However we need to nurture
and carefully strategize to reap the benefits of our
precious human resource.
The shortage of qualified faculty teaching technic in
our institutes has also been an impediment in our quest
to offer education of global standards. In the light of the
existing technical education system in the country,
coupled with our desire to progressively move towards
a “knowledge economy” we urgently need to identify
and map the required skills and competencies bridging
supply and demand in our human resource via our
technical institutes.
I also feel that we need nothing short of a revolution to
convert some of our outstanding institutions from mere
institutions of learning in to institutions of research and
innovation. If we plan systematically, it could create a
robust technical research ecosystem that feeds into and
off industry. I am aware, that in some of the good
institutes, current generation is globally-networked,
focused on research, looking to solve industry
problems, while also not missing opportunities for
patenting. They are driving a deep transformation
within our technical education system, which could
take some time to show impact. We need to bring more
and more institutions of this category in coming years.
We have taken a step forward to be identified more like
a facilitator and qualitypromoter, besides fulfilling our
basic mandate of being a regulator. To conclude, let me
reiterate that, in thecontext of technical education in our
country, we are conscious and committed to the fact
that knowledge is all about students having access to
quality education and jobs, faculty having access to
quality laboratories,libraries and research facilities, and
industry having access to skilled human resource.

on introducing reforms to improve the
quality of Higher Education in
Government Colleges other
educational and academic institutions
of Higher Education, that are presently
a constituent of one or two Government Educational
Institutions and to build greater linkages between
educational institutions and the Society they serve,
more particularly those located in the rural and semi-
urban areas of the state.
To achieve this objective our government is taking too
many initiatives and spending money. Therefore it is
our mandatory duty to make use of Gnana Sangama
where education and administration related all
information is available for students, stake holders and
public. In this column we would like to inform all the
readers about this in the following paragraphs and
request them to spread this message to all the students
and their parents.
Life Changing Ecosystem: Gnanasangama
Gnana Sangama is an initiative with the vision to create
a better teaching – learning ecosystem and to form
transparent and efficient administration.
Let us tell you how Gnana Sangama benefits students,
colleges, and administrators at all levels: Online Admission System
Manual admissions are time consuming and man power
intensive.
Whereas, Online Admission System eliminates creation
of separate applications for each institute. Management
of these applications is easy. It is a Green process.
Also, students save money as they don’t have to apply
for admissions in multiple colleges. Online Attendance
Touch Laptops in the classrooms are used to take
attendance.
It is quick, accurate and proxy resistant.
Upon login, lecturers, Professors, HODs and guest
faculty are able to check their Time-Table. Students can
also view their attendance details by logging into their
profile.
Various MIS reports gets generated for attendance
monitoring and performance analysis. Also, when a
student is absent an Auto-SMS gets generated for
sending to parents or guardians.
As a result of easy and effective process, more time is
available for teaching!

ICT enabled teaching and learning:
Smart classes are established for delivering multimedia
rich sessions. Each Classroom is provided with touch
screen laptops with various applications.
Faculty use e-content, also called as ‘assisted content
for teaching’. This assisted content is prepared with the
help of chosen experts of the Universities in
collaboration with education strategists and multimedia
content developers. Tele-Education
Experts teach using a LIVE and interactive Satellite
technology based teaching platform from the studios.
They use activity based modules, enhanced with
animation and videos.
Live sessions on Skill Building, Communicative
English, Personality and Career Development are
arranged. Information sharing from industry experts,
Discussions on latest trends in Research and
development are hosted via Tele-Education.
It is also an excellent platform for local talent and
achievers to address the students.
Self-learning
Students are provided with non-assisted content with
recorded videos. With the unique login id, they can
access the content on any device, anywhere, anytime!
On the Learning Management System, students take
Online Tests and assess their own performance. They
refer question banks, use discussion tools and other
useful applications.
Online Question Bank
Faculties contribute questions in the area of their
expertise to the online question bank: Module - wise,
topic-wise, difficulty level-wise and skill-wise.
Students explore these different types of questions for
practice and revision.
Online Tests
Using the Internal Test platform, colleges give
structured tests to a batch of students. Faculty develop
test papers with ease, using the Online Question Bank.
Once tests are taken, performance is measured,
analyzed and viewed online for each student. Thus
faculty can understand their students’ areas of strengths
and weaknesses.
Online Test platform is also used as a practice tool for
competitive examinations like CET, TOEFL, GRE.
Information Kiosks
Students can be up-to-date on various aspects of their
course, time-table, events, examinations, scholarships,
syllabi and general messages addressed to them.
A provision for giving feedback by students, faculty
and administrators is also a major functionality of the
kiosks.
Anti-Ragging and Grievances Portals
Anti-Ragging Portal for students and Grievances Portal
for staff are available.
Video conferencing
The setup helps in efficient administration, effective
communication between the Departments, Universities
and colleges.
Digitization of data
A comprehensive Document Management System and
scanning Services are provided to make the documents
digital.
By establishing a digital library, access to freely
available books is provided and 200 existing district
libraries are linked to the Digital Learning Software.
Centralised 24/7 helpline & IVRS system
Any enrolled student can contact the 24X7 helpline for
information on courses, colleges and also for Career
Counselling.
Alumni engagement and donations management
To inform, connect and engage alumni and to
encourage philanthropy a dedicated alumni engagement
portal is provided.
Other benefits to Institutions
At the click of a button, institutes can generate diverse
lists for various purposes.
College wise/district wise/taluk wise/category wise
information is available at any time through the Online
Monitoring System.
Automation of mandatory forms saves a huge amount
of time and efforts. This reduces correspondence
between departments and colleges.
Institutions can book a reservation to use lab or a
special academic infrastructure in other universities or
colleges.
ICT enabled Campus
To implement Gnana Sangama, ICT enabled campuses

Job Mela at GFGC, Farahatabad, Tq. Dist. Kalaburagi.
In this competitive world it is very difficult for the
students hailing from the rural background to face the
corporate world. Keeping this fact in mind, on the
suggestion of Prof. Narayan Prasad, State Level
Coordinator of Placement Cell, Department of
Collegiate Education, Bangalore, we have organized a
JOB MELA at GFGC Farahatabad, Tq. Dist.
Kalaburagi on 21.04.2016 in coordination with V2 Skill
Enhancement and Resource Center Kalaburagi. The
final year students and the unemployed graduates of
Government First Grade Colleges were called for this
Campus Drive.
The Job Mela started with Inaugural function at
11.00 am. Principal Dr. Elenore Geethamala
inaugurated the Mela by lightening the lamp. Managing
Director of V2 Skill Enhancement and Resource Center
Kalaburagi, Mr. Vijayasing Thakur and his associate
Mr. Vivek Hiremath addressed the job aspirants and
introduced the Companies participating in the Job
Mela. They have also briefed about the available
vacancies, possible work-places, nature of work in
different Companies and the soft skills required.
The senior faculty member Dr. Shivaputra
Potalkar and Placement Cell Coordinator Dr.
Mahantesh S. Swamy were present in the function. In the Campus Drive More than eight Companies
namely, Mahindra Saptagiri, Nysa Networks, Dominos
Pizza, Exide Life Insurance, Skyway-Beyond Limits,
Flipkart, Honey Infra Projects, Dolphin School etc.
have participated. About 78 students appeared for the
interview. Along with the students of GFGC
Farahatabad, the participated candidates were from the
other Colleges of the district such as GFGC Kalagi,
Jewargi, Kalaburagi etc. The interview process went
upto 5.00 pm. Some of the companies have conducted
Group Discussion regarding the general topics like
‘Government compensation to the farmers for the crop-
loss’.
As a result of this Campus drive a total of 40
students have got Selected and 13 have been kept on
Hold. This Job Mela provided a proper platform for the
students of rural area to expose themselves to the
corporate sector, which has built confidence in the
mind of students to achieve economic stability and
financial independence.

ಮಾಡಬೀಕಚ ಡಂಬ ಉದದೀಶ ದೂಂದಗ ಸಂಶೂೀಧನ ಕೈಗೂಳಳ ಲಾಗತಚತ’ ಡಂದಚ
ಡಾ. ಕಣ ಹೀಳದರಚ.
ರಾಯಚೂರಚ ಶಾಖೂೀತಕಡನು ವದಚಯತ ಕೀಂದರದಂದ ಪರತ ವರು ಸಚಮಾರಚ 80 ಲಕಷ

institutions to enhance skills and employability for the
unemployed and drop out with of the country.
More than 500 Principals, officers and staff of Engineering
colleges and Polytechnics from all over the Karnataka
Participated in this workshop. The Minister in his inaugural
address suggested all the officials and Principals to take up

Inauguration of National level ICT Enabled Online
Faculty Development Programme
The Training Programme aims at providing good
exposure to recent advancement and trends in Events of
instruction, motivating students, classroom
communication, creativity, active learning, questioning,
Teaching and research and guidance and counselling.
Which increase the efficiency and effectiveness of
Teaching, Teacher and Student.
Sri. Basavaraj Raya Reddi, Honourable Minister for
Higher Education, inaugurated the above Faculty
Development Programme on 27/06/2016 at 9:30am in
TEQIP Conference Hall, Directorate of Technical
Education, Bangalore by lighting the lamp. The
Honourable Minister addressed all the participants
present at various centres across the country and
appreciated the efforts of NITTTR and Department of
Technical Education for making use of ICT to reach
remote places and provide cost effective training
programme. He also said that ICT enabled training
programme has helped the participants to avoid
unnecessary travelling of long distances; and the
financial burden on State exchequer. The programme is
of unique kind wherein all the proceedings including
inauguration programme were held online through cost
effective Google Hangout Application by connecting
different centres throughout the country. NITTTR
Chandigarh is one of the premier faculty training
centres of India which conducted the training
programme covering 7 Institutions across the country
out of which 5 centres are selected from Karnataka
State. Nearly 250 faculty from the State
Government/aided Engineering Colleges and
Polytechnics are participating. The training centres are:
1. S. J. Government Polytechnic , Bangalore.
2. JSS Polytechnic for woman, Mysore.
3. BVSS Polytechnic, Bagalkot.
4. Government Engineering College, Hassan.
5. Government Engineering College, Haveri.
Apart from the above 5 State Institutions,
Kumaramangalam University, Gurgaon & Government
Institute of Technology, Bhuvaneshwar are also
participating in the workshop.
Dr. M.P.Poonia, Director NITTR Chandigarh & Dr.
Tulsi, Co-ordinator, NITTTR Chandigarh delivered the
keynote address from their centre. Sri. Bharath Lal
Meena, Additional Chief Secretary for Higher
Education suggested the Director to organise more &
more of such programmes to reach all the faculty to
improve their teaching skills and efficiency.

Visvesvaraya Technological University celebrated
World Environment Day at “Jnana Sangama”, Belagavi
on Friday 10/06/2016. On this occasion saplings were
planted in the camps. Dr. H. N. Jagannatha Reddy,
Registrar of VTU presided over the function and called
upon the audience to create awareness on the
importance of protecting the nature. Dr. Jagadish
Regional Officer, Karnataka State Pollution Control
Board, Belagavi was the Chief Guest and he said
“people of the state have a special care for nature they
are in the midst of the forest. Dr. G. K. Khadbadi. Rtd.
Principal Environment spoke about the importance of
plantation & protecting the environment. Dr. S. B
Dandagi PG Coordinator and Dr. C.C. Gavimath,
Special Officer, Bio Fuel I & D, Centre, and all the

ಇಂಜನಯರಂಗ ಎರಡನಗೋ ವಷಯದ ನಗೋರ ಪವಗೋಶ ಬಯಸನವ ಪಾಲಲಟಗಕುಕ ವದಾಯರಥಯಗಳಗಾಗ, ಕನಾಯಟಕ ಪರೋಕಾ ಪಾಧಕಾರವು ಪತರೋ ವಷಯವೂ ನಡಗಸನವ ಡಡಪರಮ ಸಾಮಾನಯ ಪವಗೋಶ ಪರೋಕಗಯನ 3ನಗೋ ಜನಲಗೈ, 2016ರಂದನ ರಾಜಯದ ವವಧ ಪರೋಕಾ ಕಗೋಂದಗಳಲಲ ನಡಗಯಲಲದನ, ಈ ದಸಗಯಲಲ ನಗರದ ಆಯಯಭಾರತರ ಪಾಲಲಟಗಕುಕನಲಲ 1ನಗೋ ಜ ನ, 2016ರಂದ ಸನಮಾರನ 20 ದನಗಳ ಕಾಲ ಡಡಪರಮ ಸಇಟ ತರಬಗೋತರ ಹಾಗನ ಸ ಕತ ಮಾಗಯದಶಯನ ಕಾಯಯಕಮವನನು ಹಮಮಕಗ ಳಲಾಗದಗ. ಈ ತರಬಗೋತರಯಲಲ ರಾಜಯದ ವವಧ ಪಾಲಲಟಗಕುಕಗಳ ಹಲವಾರನ ವದಾಯರಥಯಗಳು ಭಾಗವಹಸ ಪಯೋಜನವನನು ಪಡಗದನಕಗ ಳುತರತದಾರಗ. ಸಂಸಗಯನ ಕಳಗದ 4 ವಷಯಗಳಂದಲ ಸತತವಾಗ ಈ ತರಬಗೋತರ ಕಾಯಾಯಗಾರವನನು ಯಶಸವಯಾಗ ಆಯೋಜಸಕಗ ಂಡನ ಬರನತರತದನ, ಪತರೋ ವಷಯವೂ ಇಲಲ ತರಬಗೋತರ ಪಡಗದ ಸನಮಾರನ ವದಾಯರಥಯಗಳು ಸಾಮಾನಯ ಪವಗೋಶ ಪರೋಕಗಯಲಲ ಉತತಮ ಯಾಯಂಕಗಳನನು ಪಡಗದನ, ರಾಜಯದ ವವಧ ಪತರರಷತ ಇಂಜನಯರಂಗ ಕಾಲಗೋಜನಗಳಲಲ ಉನುತ ವಾಯಸಂಗವನನು ಮನಂದನವರಗಸನತರತರನತಾತರಗ. ಇದರಗ ಂದಗಗ, ಈ ರೋತರಯ ತರಬಗೋತರ ಕಾಯಯಕಮವನನು ಸಂಸಗಯ ಹಾಗನ ವವಧ ಪಾಲಲಟಗಕುಕಗಳ ವದಾಯರಥಯಗಳಗಗ ಆಯೋಜಸನತರತರನವ ಜಲಗಯ ಏಕಗೈಕ ಪಾಲಲಟಗಕುಕ ಇದಾಗರನತತದಗ.

Signed graphs have several applications in Circuit
design, Coding theory, Fault diagnosis, Physics and
Social psychology, etc.

and some of the problems in these areas can be better
studied using the concept of signed graphs. Since then,
mathematicians have written numerous papers on the
topic of signed graphs.
The purpose of this workshop is to bring together
experts and young researchers to provide a platform for
discussion of recent advances in Signed graphs and
their applications. The workshop will be of
instructional in nature and basic concepts with
directions for further research will be discussed. Apart
from lectures, in-depth discussion on the front-line
challenging problems on various topics will be done. It
is hoped that these in-depth discussions and lectures by
the invited speakers will motivate the young
researchers to enter into some of the highly fertile
research areas in the theory of signed graphs.

International conference on Discrete mathematics-2016

june 2016 Discrete mathematics is the study of mathematical
structures that can assume only distinct, separated
values rather than continuous. The objects studied in
discrete mathematics such as integers, graphs, and
statements in logic do not vary smoothly but have
distinct, separated values. Discrete Mathematics
provides a common forum for significant research in
many areas of discrete mathematics and combinatorics.
Among the fields covered by Discrete Mathematics are
graph and hypergraph theory, network theory,
enumeration, coding theory, block designs, the theory
of partially ordered sets, extremal set theory, matroid
theory, algebraic combinatorics, polyhedra,
combinatorial and discrete geometry, matrices, and
discrete probability theory. The conference was
intended for young faculty and researchers from all
interdisciplinary courses like Mathematical Sciences,
Computer Science, Electronics, and Biological
Sciences who was interested in the field.
The experts in the Discrete Mathematics across the
globe delivered the talks during the conference include,

University of Science and Technology, Faridabad, gave
lecture on the process and procedures to be followed to
prepare NAAC report with examples and samples. The
Head of the Departments, senior faculty and Deans of
various bodies were attended the workshop. Around 70
members were participated in this workshop.
Two Days Workshop “Data analytics using R tool
Data analysis using R tool workshop was inaugurated
by dean academic Dr. Puttaswamy on 27th
May 2016 at
9.30 AM. Dean addressed the participants about the
need of knowledge on new technology. First session of
the day started at 10 AM with the introduction of Data
analytics and R studio and its installation. In the second
session how to use R tool in R console is explained and
the participants worked in the lab. In the third session
data types and structures in R frame work is explained
with examples. In the fourth session functions in R is
explained along with demonstration and the participants
were allowed to work in the lab.In the first session on

May Resource person started in briefing about how
to explore the data and to pre-process the raw data
before the data is used as input for further process. In
the second session text analytics and multi dimensional
data analysis is explained considering data in face book
and twitter as examples. In the third session data
correlation and regression is explained along with
execution in R console with few sample data. Fourth
session addressed about clustering and integration of
existing applications in R. Participants executed some
R programs on clustering and correlation of data. At the
end of the workshop feedback was taken. The
participants were satisfied to know about R tool and the
way workshop was organized. The aim of the workshop
to provide the knowledge to staff and students about
how to handle data analysis problem using the powerful
open source tool R was achieved.Resource persons for

Upon login, lecturers, Professors, HODs and guest
faculty are able to check their Time-Table. Students can
also view their attendance details by logging into their
profile.
Various MIS reports get generated for attendance
monitoring and performance analysis. Also, when a
student is absent an Auto-SMS gets generated for
sending to parents or guardians.

Minutes of the joint Meeting of Overseas Centre for
Foreign Students (OCFS), Bengaluru and the British
Council, Bengaluru held under the Chairmanship of the
Additional Chief Secretary (ACS), at 12.00pm on June
23, 2016 in the Conference Hall of KSHEC, Palace
Road, Bengaluru.
The Additional Chief Secretary (ACS), Department of
Higher Education welcomed the British Council
delegates, ED, KSHEC, Officers KSHEC and
Registrars and Nodal Officers of the Core Committee
Members of OCFS present in the meeting.
The ACS welcomed the participants and started by
briefly explaining on the ongoing initiatives regarding
the Overseas Centre for Foreign Students (OCFS) in
Karnataka to attract more foreign students to study
here. He welcome the British Council delegation and
briefly spoke about the advantages of such a
cooperation between KSHEC/OCFS and the British
Council to host a joint meeting for the benefit of our
Universities on their Generation UK–India is a
programme that aims to promote international
experience and build engagement and trust between the
UK and India. ACS said that the British Council is
working with partners to support up to 25,000 young
people and professionals from the UK to gain
experience in India by 2020 over a 5 year period. ACS
added that we have 50 Universities in Karnataka
comprising of State, deemed and private Universities.
For such an initiative of Generation UK-India project,
we are keen to accommodate the maximum number of
students from the UK into Karnataka. Our Universities
will take care of the logistics and other issues involving
students from the UK. He said for this year, he was
glad to note that 2 Universities Christ and Jain have
been selected for this program. We are keen to see a
maximum number of Universities from Karnataka get
selected for this program for 2016-17 as we do not
distinguish between Universities. Our objective is to
attract the maximum number of foreign students to the
state.
By this way, Karnataka will enable to develop skills
and experience of the future UK workforce increasing
its competitiveness in the global economy. We are keen
to build a deeper, wider and stronger understanding
between India and the UK by creating links that will be
the basis for future collaboration, ACS said.
State sees a rise in number of foreign
students The number of foreign students registering for courses
in the State has increased by 26 per cent in the last eight
months, a study by the Overseas Centre for Foreign
Students (OCFS) has shown. The data was compiled
from several universities, the Foreigner Regional
Registration Office and various other sources.
According to the data released by OCFS, which is a
branch of the Karnataka State Higher Education
Council, there are 13,900 foreign students across the
State. In November 2015, this number was 10,100.
This figure constitutes 36.7 per cent of the total number
of foreign students in the country.
“Karnataka attracts the maximum number of foreign
students in the country based on this data and ranks
fourth among all the States and Union Territories in
terms of the total number of universities with 50. It
ranks second in the number of State public universities
(25) and third in deemed universities (11). The State
has 11.69 per cent of all universities in the country,”
said N. Ramesh Kumar, Advisor, OFCS.
Besides students, there is also an upward trend in the
number of foreign faculty members who visit the State
to teach, the study has shown.
