18A ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY Α. Η. Τ. CO. SPECIFICATION AUTOMATIC FURNACE DRIVE designed especially for use in Micro combustion procedures to provide automatic advancement of a furnace, gas burner, sample heater, vaporization chamber, etc. 5683-D. AUTOMATIC FURNACE DRIVE, Electric, A. H. T. Co. Specification. A versatile, time saving driving mechanism, with simple controls, for moving a platform laterally on a worm drive at three pre- determined speeds with reproducible accuracy. Operates without supervision and can be preset to change the rate of motion during an excursion, as may be required. Developed for use in connection with combustion procedures, specifically for moving the electric sample heater of the von Czoernig-Alber Micro Combustion Furnace to provide automatic control of the furnace movement during various phases of the combustion cycle, but convenient for general use and in micro, semimicro or macro combustion procedures to provide for automatic advancement of a furnace, gas burner, sample heater, vaporization chamber, etc. The advantages of similar automatic drive have been described most recently by R. 0. Clark and G. H. Stillson, Analytical Chemistry, Vol. 19, No. 6 {June 15, 1947), pp. 423-426. Three constant speeds are available, the selection, se- quence and operating time of each being at the discretion of the analyst. A switch on the panel permits automatic cycling or semi-automatic operation, i.e., the manual'set- ting of rates of advance at any of the three speeds. With semi-automatic control, the analyst can make immediate change from one speed to another, and change the direc- tion of the motion as required by the behavior and progress of combustion. The speeds selected for the combustion cycle are adapted to the rapid analysis of a wide range of compounds and are based fundamentally on combustion cycles previously reported. The speeds available are: high speed A, providing uni- form advance of 15 mm per minute; medium speed B, with advance of 6 mm per minute; and low speed C, 5683-D. Automatic Furnace Drive, Electric, Α. Η. Τ. Co. Specification, as above described, with complete directions for use but without micro combustion furnace or sample heater. With 5 ft. connecting cord; for use on 115 volts, 60 cycles, a.c. only 465.00 More detailed information sent upon request. ARTHUR H. AUTOMATIC FURNACE DRIVE, Electric, A. H. T. Co. Specification. A versatile, time saving driving mechanism, with simple controls, for moving a platform laterally on a worm drive at three predetermined speeds with reproducible accuracy.

0 . Clark and G. H. Stillson, Analytical Chemistry, Vol. 19, No. 6 {June 15, 1947), pp. 423-426.

Three constant speeds are available, the selection, sequence and operating time of each being at the discretion of the analyst. A switch on the panel permits automatic cycling or semi-automatic operation, i.e., the manual'set-ting of rates of advance at any of the three speeds. with advance of 2.3 mm per minute. Maximum length of travel 170 mm. Maximum running time for automatic cycle 60 minutes.

The driving mechanism consists of a complex series of worm and gear combinations, reversible synchronous speed motor for main drive; slow synchronous speed motor for timer ; normally open and closed micro switches ; pilot lamp and electric circuits and control switches mounted in metal housing on one end of a metal base 32 χ 111 A inches.

The moving platform, 2XU χ 21/2 inches, to which the heater is connected in use, and driving screw with supports and track, extend l l ' / s inches from the left side of the housing. Base is provided with four adjustable holders for attaching the von Czoernig-Alber Micro Combustion Furnace.
